Musings and Praise of Older Beauties.

I’m so happy to see that designers and advertisers are taking note of beautiful, mature and older women!  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve often wondered why so many designers, clothing manufacturers, and especially cosmetics companies keep using younger…and younger women and girls in their ads.  Are they not aware that we “older” women are spending millions upon millions of dollars in clothing, shoes, cosmetics, bags?  We’re top consumers!  So, my fellow Atypical60 readers, today I’m handing out kudos to some companies who have included older beauties in their campaigns!  Hugs and kisses to: Joni Mitchell for YSL YSL for including the wise, sage, talented and beautiful Joni Mitchell!  I’ve loved her since I was in my teens…and I can imagine she is singing my favorite Joni song in this ad–the beautiful “Cary” For the intellectuals, Celine has added the literary genius Joan Didion to their roster of models.  At 80 years young, she looks fantastic…and her age just makes her that more beautiful and appealing! Joan didion for CeleneJessica Lange Take a look at Jessica Lange.  Marc Jacobs  sure took a good look at her–and she is the face of Marc Jacobs  Cosmetics.  It’s about time cosmetics corporations realized that we love our cosmetics just as much as the younger women do too!  But you know what?  As great as it is that older women are being recognized, I wonder when the tide will change from having celebrities in every ad and magazine cover and go back to the models of a few decades ago.  To any of you who read “Teen” or “Seventeen” back in the ’60’s and ’70’s–remember Colleen Corby?small-colleen-corby-teen-cover-july-1965 I so much wanted to look like her and be her. To this day, I think she is the classic American Beauty.  I’m sure she is still gorgeous and, quite frankly, I would love to see her make a modeling comeback! Look at Patti Hansen!!!Patti+Hansen+Long+Hairstyles+Layered+Cut+EdSMbHlKzV-l  Look at Patti Hansen!!!!!She’s even more beautiful nowadays! I swear if I saw Patti Hansen on the cover of Vogue, I would go back to buying that dreadful, celebrity-obsessed publication! (My anger at Anna Wintour reached the highest level of all time after she placed Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover last year. Ugh!) Every woman is beautiful..and sometimes I think that is a truth that is often forgotten. The beauty we had in our youth is a different beauty we acquire with age. Our lines give us a certain character that expresses our experiences–whether good or bad–and that’s OK! Our wisdom shines through. We don’t need to judge….It’s quite nice and lovely to age! Oh! One More Thing.   LET’S ALL SMILE MORE!!!! The past few days that I’ve been out and about, it has become very clear to me that most people don’t look happy. I’ve observed people looking stressed, appearing sad, having an expression that they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders and some just seem as though they are angry with the world! We all have bad days ( I, in particular am having a terrible day as a result of someone hacking into one of my accounts), but I think we should make an effort to smile more often.  I am taking a vow to do so–even if I appear slightly goofy, I don’t care!  My smile of the day is just for you! Smile for 2015 XOXOXO! Enjoy the day!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

  4. Maureen Aupperlee says:

Not only fashion for us maturing woment but WHY do skin care companies tout their products on younger women who don’t have WRINKLES! Show the mature skin and what their product can do.
    Ughhh…..go get them Cathy!

  5. @Maureen and Catherine, Yes! Those commercials drive me nuts, too! So deceptive. They have the young Kristen Bell and Naomi Watts claiming they use the skincare product, and has them saying, “I can see a difference here and here”. (their jawline and cheeks). They’re way too young to have any lines on their faces to begin with! Lol.

Oh Millie! Isn’t it ridiculous?? In addition, Kristen Bell and Naomi Watts are in the financial elite group. That means they are able to afford spa treatments, a little bit of the botox moreso than the average woman can. It’s disgusting! XOXOXO!!
