I’m hoping that I’m doing this correctly. But I HAD to reblog this post from “Warning Curves Ahead” blog. She “gets” it!!!!!! You may remember my post of a few weeks ago of my version of advanced style. But this nails it.
She included ALL sorts of styles and all kinds of women and I love it. I love it so very much. And it speaks to all women over 30,40,50,60, and beyond.
So ladies and gents, take a look at this wonderful post (if you haven’t already seen it) and enjoy and wear whatever you want ( I would have added my favorite curse word that starts with “F” and ends with “K” but I promised Bonaparte that I would curb my language. Hi Judy! Was that reblog nothing short of epic? I’m so happy that other women “get” it. I’m also saddened that other, much younger women, think there words of non-wisdom are so important that they have to pontificate to other women of what NOT to wear. ah, back in the 50’s there were rules! NEVER wear white shoes after Labor Day. Women over 25 should cut their hair, no more long tresses. Make sure everything matched…God forbid your clothing should CLASH. Green with blue–horrors! Make sure your slip isn’t showing beneath the exactly precise skirt length. Eyebrows must be plucked…no matter how much it hurt. A woman/female of any age, at 5-foot-three-inches tall should weight exactly 124 pounds…anything more or less just wasn’t…well…appropriate. There were more… 🙂
Gradmama. Oh. My mother ingrained the “NEVER wear WHITE anything after Labor Day” and to this day, I only wear white jeans and white shirts after that weekend. I can hear her yelling at me from up above. I’m sure she’s yelling at the angels for wearing white robes after Labor Day. I’m sure God has changed his robe to match the seasons!!
LOL. I don’t even wear a slip. Same with panty hose. Panty hose is just a petri dish for yeast infections!……….XOXOXO!!!
panty hose! yikes! My grandma wore a corset! to her dying day…and girdles were in…even worse than pantyhose. It gives me the chills just thinking about all that. I did love the beautiful crenoline undergarments that made those pretty 1950’s look dresses stand out. And long circle skirts.
I had to search for Kallie Provencher’s article… if I had been her I would have written it from a kidding point of view…not so serious like it was set in stone. I didn’t find it as obnoxious as many others did, but maybe its because those of us who have been through all sorts of rules about how to dress and not to dress over the decades. As I’ve said before…I wear what I want…my kids have all long since given up asking “you aren’t wearing THAT!” because they know that I probably am! 🙂
Two fashion things that bug me are: those cutsie little full mini-skirts that flare out like a little ballerina; and the Boob-Parade—I’m not a prude, but I think push-up-bras are just dumb! I don’t appreciate my newscasters reporting the latest disaster wearing a dress with “cleavage.” The thought always crosses my mind… “cover up lady!” Why don’t they just abolish the breast-rules and go for bare chests. Remember the National Georgraphic women in remote jungles — huh? Racy stuff! 🙂
It was her tone that pissed me off. In a humorous way…yeah. But the underlying tone would be that she, as well as many “fashun” bloggers do, seemingly takes herself seriously and as an expert. It’s like the “Plus” sized label. Screw that. No woman should be labeled “plus” because she’s over a certain weight. Why aren’t thinner women called “minuses” or “lessers”?
Don’t even get me started on the tits. I personally wear underwires and padding because if I didn’t, my tits would sag over my bulging tummy. I need a shred of dignity. But I get what you are talking about. I watch the news and am disgusted because the TV stations are going for the fake tittied, fake hair, fillers in the face look. And they always seem to be so dismissive after “reading” not reporting any given disaster. And then they smile! WTF??????????!!!!!!!! I’m telling you, I watch the BBC and the French news instead.
Oh yeah, I remember those old school National Geographic women. At least their breasts were real!!! LOL! XOXOXOXO!!!
I watch mostly CNN, and I like some of the women because they take the news seriously and try to ignore the cleavage rule. They no longer all have the same hair-do either…I like that. 🙂 the NG women are probably all wearing push-up bras now…LOL I refuse to wear a bra now, as it would be only one-sided, and need a special prosthesis because so much of the gland part was cut off during surgery…leaving a big hole.
I don’t think she was trying to funny…would have been better if she had.

Hi Catherine! I’d also come across this via Facebook. As I sit here wearing my Leopard skin ballet pumps, I’m wondering if I should be thrown into fashion prison for breaking the rules for over-30s! And, as far as I’m concerned, thirties are babies!! One of the best things about just having achieved 63, I don’t give a ‘flying f_ _k’ about following ‘fashion rules’. I’m just glad to be here!! xx
Hi June. I HAD to share that post because it was just so spot on. I’ve been called a hypocrite for posting it due to my infamous AS post but seriously, that post I did was more about the tone of the AS movement.
The point is that nobody really has any right to tell a woman what to do or what to wear–especially someone who hasn’t reached 30 yet. I would LOVE to tell young girls what NOT to wear, but I really don’t care all that much……..XOXOXOXO!!!
