Shit Old Ladies Do

In reading the latest post on “That’s Not My Age”: http://thatsnotmyage.com/beauty-at-every-age/where-are-all-the-senior-beauty-consultants/

I KNOW–I am still trying to figure out the nuances on rebloging—, I decided to reblog one of my favorite posts because I’m becoming increasingly frustrated that companies continue to NOT pay attention to we older women. Have a second helping!!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Old you say?! Bah. Humbug. You’re only as Old as You Look…ah, I mean Feel…well, Look and Feel! Have a Wonderful Weekend. Working keeps you Young but it’s Not for the Faint of Heart when You’re Old..I mean Older…:)

Great the first time I read it and still brilliant now. You tell ’em!

It’s not just you. I’m a couple decades younger than you and cannot find a stitch to wear in the stores…it is either cute and doesn’t fit or it fits and it’s hideous. However, since joining a nudist camp isn’t for me I’ve decided to give the fashion industry a bit of the bird by making my own clothes….clothes that fits in places where modern fashion thinks women aren’t meant to have fat, and clothes that fit the style I want to wear.

Painter. You are so lucky to be talented enough to make your own clothing!! I have a sewing machine sitting in the garage and perhaps I should dust it off and oil it. I used to sew window treatments because the stores sold crap so I made my own. I taught myself and also created quite intricate halloween costumes for the kids when they were young. It’s true though. As grown women, we don’t need or want to look “cute”. “Cute” is for children and teens. Don’t get me started on that–the fashion industry LOVES younger bloggers who wear their clothing and give off such descriptions as “Totally cute” and “Adorable”. REALLY??? That’s what the industries are looking for? Perhaps it IS time to get the body in shape so we can all be nudists–LOL!!! I’m glad that you commmented–you have given me inspiration to start sewing again! XOXOXOXO!!!

Well, I want “cute” things but MY definition of cute (as in a nice little detail on a skirt), not something that makes me look like I stepped out of a Manga comic! With your fashion knowledge and your already having sewing skills you should make some great stuff! Dust off that machine and show the Fashion Man who’s boss.

Love this! I found your blog via a post on TNMA about where all the older women behind cosmetics counters are. So glad I followed through to your blog. As a 37 (I think) year old, who’s hopefully not yet middle aged in the true sense, I am sick of seeing rules for people over X age, and advice on how to age gracefully. Why can’t I just be me, but a slightly older (and hopefully more fabulous) version than last year?! Thank you for reminding me that there are others that think a similar way!

Hi Rachel! I’m so glad that you enjoyed this post. LOL–37 is young in real life–but I “get” it. According to fashion/beauty, 37 year olds are on the cusp of old age and it is absolutely disgraceful! We are all the best of ourselves–and that is something we need to remember as we age. We can still be us, but better!! Thank you so much for commenting. Don’t be a stranger!!! XOXOXOXXO!!!
