*Sigh* Remember when we worked a 35-hour workweek? Then a 40-hour workweek? Now it seems that we come into the office earlier and earlier and leave later and later. Not that I’m complaining—because to tell you the truth, I really really like my job.
The workday flies by so fast.
And so, does the week. That’s why I wish we had a permanent three-day weekend.
My weekend attire. I want to look like the hipster mom!!!
I always get like this whenever the kids visit for the weekend. I love when they are home. But I get really sad when they leave.
It’s that empty “Sunday” feeling. Do you know what I’m talking about? Remember when you were in school and as soon as late afternoon on Sundays arrived, you got “that feeling”. It’s an empty feeling with a touch of stress and dread. You just feel bad.
It’s that Sunday Feeling.
That’s the feeling I get when the kids leave.
It’s true. This is me when the kids leave!
But when they arrive I’m happy as a raccoon in a dumpster!
Yes! I’m as happy as this little critter in all his garbage glory when my kids come home!
We had a great weekend.
Bonaparte and I started the weekend with a toast to Obamacare sticking around!
Tchin Tchin! A toast to the weekend! It was too cold outside so we had our kir royals indoors!
The boys arrived early Saturday afternoon—which was great because we had plenty of time to catch up with each other.
No matter how old they are, they will always be my little boys! (Let’s hope they never see this post or that I’m calling them “my little boys”!)
And… they told me about a great new show on Comedy Central. “The Detroiters” about the worst ad agency in Detroit. The show is hysterically funny and we watched a couple of episodes before getting ready for dinner…
If you get the chance to catch this show, by all means do. It’s laugh-out-loud funny!
And what a dinner it was!
We had dinner at a la Maison in Ardmore, PA.
We started off with what was THE best Charcuterie Board of all time. The cheeses. The pates. The saucisson. The mustards and jellies. The bread..
Jake ordered the Boulliabaisse which was fantastic!
Roman ordered the best dish of the night-as you can see he took the photo after he ate most of it. Roasted Pheasant!
I had duck breast in cherry sauce over a bed of roasted asparagus. It was devine!
Bonaparte ordered what he usually orders in any French restaurant. Steak Frites. And he said it was great!

Chocolate pot du creme and bread pudding for dessert was a sweet end to an excellent dinner!
a la Maison in Ardmore just may be our new favorite restaurant! I can’t wait to get back!
Sunday was a productive day. One of my neighbors is moving and was giving away a beautiful antique oak dresser. It was old and heavy and in great shape. One of the drawer knobs was broken but I remedied it by replacing all of the knobs.
Isn’t this oak dresser beautiful? My sweaters have a home now. And the entire cost was $27.00 for the knobs. Honestly, if the boys were not here to help, I would never have this beauty!
It was a tremendous help to have the boys move the dresser down three flights of my neighbor’s stairs and three flights up mine!
The bread I made was perfect for sandwiches. I loaded them up with a supply and with a supply of corn cookies. I’ll make more for next weekend!
Good things always come to an end. Before they left, I made sandwiches for them on homemade bread. It’s just such a pleasure to be mom!
One last look at the boys before they board the Bolt Bus in Philly and go back home to NYC!
And on Sunday afternoon, it was time to bid farewell to the boys until the next time.

I was really sad at work today. Then I realized that..
Oona will be flying in on Friday!!! And we will be picking her up late Friday evening. It’ll be another fun weekend!
Yay! Can’t wait to see my little baby girl Friday night!!
But I still think we should have three-day weekends instead of two days. But then I would have that Sunday feeling on Monday!

My son is in the military stationed overseas. When he comes home on leave the days fly by. I have a hard time on the day that he leaves. I don’t think I will ever get used to that. I usually hold up pretty well until after he is out of sight, then I spend the rest of the day off and on crying. I spend the next day trying to sooth my chapped eyes. I got a little misty eyed as I read your post, especially when I saw the picture of your sons leaving.
Each time they leave it’s hard on our “Mom heart”, isn’t it.

I am only too too aware of that “Sunday afternoon blahs” feeling. As a teacher, I get it without fail at about two or three pm. The only time I don’t get it is, of course, vacations when I don’t have to get up on Monday. Or during the summers. So I get that black cloud over your head. And the thing is I really like my job too. Alas.
I live for the Friday cocktail hour and a perfect cold vodka/diet tonic with olives and lime wedges.

Love when you write “it’s such a pleasure being a mom.” We lose sight of that pleasure quotient during the ‘sturm und drang’ of child rearing. I am sure your boys had as much pleasure eating the cookies and sandwiches as you did making them.
Momcat. It’s true though, I absolutely treasured my SAHM days when the kids were all at home. I always had a great time with them–my house was the house where everyone convened and it was always active. I think that’s why it was and has been difficult to adjust to empty-nesting. LOL..yeah. I got messages later on that the sandwiches and cookies were “epic”! XoXOXOXO!!!

That dinner looks divine! Funny thing both of my “boys” age 29 and 26 were “home” this past weekend! We hung around on the couch Saturday afternoon, talking, eating bad stuff and watching crazy…. funny “You Tube” videos just like we used to. I sometimes find it hard to believe they still enjoy spending time with me like that and pow it goes by in a flash! I feel very lucky and grateful!! 🙂
OMG! Renee! We do that all the time when the kids are home. They got me hooked on “Billy on the Street” and a few other shows. It’s just like the old days when everyone lived at home. I am like you on that. I feel extremely lucky and grateful too!! XOXOXOXO!!!

This year I´m actually buying myself free Mondays and I love it! Made a deal with my boss so this year only, before I turn 60 I can have leave of absence on Mondays. It´s gonna be hard going back to full working weeks in 2018 but my retirement fund is gonna love me for that, I guess. My mondays are now spent doing the stuff I should have done on Saturdays, like errands and shopping, but without the crowds. Guess I will love retirement too!:))

Good to hear you and your boys had a great time, and that dinner looks divine (pot du creme is one of my absolute favorites). Your kids are very handsome and beautiful, you look much too young to be their mother Catherine! It’s killer for me too when my daughter has to go back to NYC. She’s around the same age as your boys, all grown up, but sometimes I still can’t bear to look when she leaves.
I am definitely up for a 3-day weekend. Day 1 — unwind and get your second wind. Day 2 — all those things on the damn to-do list. Day 3 — rest up from the strenuous Day 2! Works for me! It looks like his lordship may “pre-retire” for a bit. If he does, we will be having those kind of weekends!
Sounds like a perfect weekend! My life is a permanent weekend at the moment (I’m hoping to find another job soon) and although I fill my time well, I miss the camaraderie of the office.
I love the sound of what you had in the restaurant…a lot of my favourite things, charcuterie, bouillabaisse, duck…..I had a great weekend too as it was Mother’s Day in the UK so I made the 250 mile trip to my mum’s and we had some great outings.

Hi Gail. You know, the camaraderie of an office is a great thing when everyone gets along. I have to say, the office I’m working in now is probably the best blend of people I’ve worked with in a long, long time. But it also took me a long, long time to get this job.
