Hey! I KNOW People. OK?

I don’t quite recall how the conversation transpired, but it happened while Bonaparte and I were enjoying our aperitifs last night.

Oddly enough, we had our aperitifs outside on the deck last night. I’m calling Mother Nature and I’m asking her to give me some Fall weather!

Perhaps my Frenchman was trying to distract me from the events of the weekend—the events where my foray into video making almost gave me a complete emotional breakdown.  Actually, it did give me a complete emotional breakdown.

Regardless, we got into this weird conversation about celebrities we’ve met. Naturally, I couldn’t hold a candle to ol’ Bonaparte’s meetings with various celebrities throughout his life in Paris and St. Tropez, but my competitive nature started to kick in.

Bonaparte fondly recalled days at Le Moulin and the movie stars and various French celebrities that would come and join the family for weekend fun.  And when I realized that I could never top his privileged and celebrity-filled younger days in France, I had to think quickly.

This is Le Moulin, the estate of Bonaparte’s aunt, Daniele Delorme and her husband, Yves Robert.  Bonaparte spent almost all of his weekends here when they owned the home.

I have to explain something.  We took these photos when Daniele was still alive. We drove to B’s mother’s grave which is close by.  This wall–it’s high–about 6 feet tall. I almost broke my neck climbing this fence and almost got arrested because the guard dog wouldn’t stop barking!

Where would I be without Gettyimages?  Here’s Yves and Daniele back in the day..

When Bonaparte told me that Brigitte Bardot was often a guest, I cursed the fact I did not know my husband back then.  Oops!  If I did, he would have been in deep trouble because he’s 11 years older than I am.  But BARDOT!!! BARDOT!!!!!

Well, even though Daniel Gelin was Bonaparte’s uncle and Daniele’s first husband, he was a popular French actor–and he was a frequent guest of Yve’s and Daniele’s.  Very friendly extended family!

The beautiful Nathalie Baye was also a guest that Bonaparte met..

Miou-Miou, the talented actress pictured here with the incredibly talented and tragic Patrick Dewaere was also a guest. Man–Bonaparte got to meet some pretty cool people!

Charles freaking Aznavour was not only a frequent guest, but he entertained everyone with his piano playing and songs!!!!

And this guy–Roger Vadim. He was Bonaparte’s mother’s boyfriend after she and Dany split up.  He even wrote about her in one his books!

The fabulous Jean Rochefort was a regular guest and a great friend of Bonaparte’s family.  He was very, very nice and sweet when I got to meet him.  R.I.P.  This great actor left us recently.

I started thinking of all the celebrities that my son Roman gets to meet on Fallon and SNL.

Roman, hard at work holding a welcoming cue card for Fallon!

And the personalities that my son Jake gets to meet with his career out in L.A.

Jake–at the Grammy awards a few years ago!

Even Oona, who lives in Cincinnati gets to see the city’s own pride and joy—the Lachey Brothers at their establishment.

Cincy’s own–The Lachey Brothers–Drew and Nick!! And they are very nice guys!!!!

I have had a few encounters in my time. And my big come back remark was “Hey. I know people too!” (When in reality, I know nobody!)

But I’ll pretend that I do and I’ll brag, boast, humbly tell you about very real and very true celebrity encounters now!

Al Franken both with Tom Davis and Al Franken by himself.  This makes me very happy because I plan on writing to Al (wink) and asking him if he will run for President of these United States.  It would be so important to me if I could join in a conversation and say “Oh, I knew (hardly) Al Franken back in the day.” “He came to a party that I had and I performed with him and Tom Davis at Town Hall in New York”.

Franken & Davis, in my opinion, the greatest comedy duo since Martin & Lewis.  It was a pleasure performing with these guys!

It’s true though.  My ex-husband and I attended “An Evening With Franken and Davis” at Town Hall. The comedy team, funny as ever, needed a volunteer from the audience to perform in a skit.  I had a front-row seat. And nobody else had the chance because I practically jumped up on the stage.

The skit went well, and I was rewarded with an invite to join the after-party.  It was there that I met Gilda Radnor who was a very warm and genuine person.  She was shocked that I wasn’t a “ringer”.  We had an animated conversation and she commended me on a job well-done!

Yes!  I met THE Gilda Radnor–and she spoke to me and told me I was great!!!!

Pete Townshend was also at the party.  I had the pleasure of meeting him and he was cordial but aloof.

Meeting Pete Townshend of the Who was pretty cool.  He was very quiet and reserved.

The funny thing about this whole thing is that this happened at a time when we had no cellphones.  Had the iPhone been around back then, I would have the skit recorded.  Selfies with Franken, Davis and Radnor would have been snapped and passed to my friends.  Um…I don’t think Pete Townshend would have been up for a selfie though!

I’m also thinking that a good deal of the public personas could only wish that cell phones had never been created due to the camera aspect.  Privacy seemed more precious back then.

Shortly after that skit, I had a little get together with some of my friends who attended Katharine Gibbs with me.  I invited Al Franken.  He showed up and Al and me and the girls all had a great time!  Proving that he is a man of the people!  He would make a great President!

Al Franken’s move to politics has made me very happy. He’s a stand up man and cares about people. I want him to run for President!

During my years of living in Manhattan, I did have a few encounters with celebrities.  Among them—

I met Andy Kaufman at a party that my friend Rondi had back when we were all single and living in NYC.  It was during his wrestling phase and he picked me out to wrestle with him.  YES. I WRESTLED ANDY KAUFMAN and I was laughing so hard he pinned me in two seconds.  But look!  A photo of him as my favorite artist–Gustave Courbet! I knew I liked this guy! R.I.P.

I had a great encounter with Carly Simon back when Tower Records had a location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.   Jake was in school and Roman was still in a stroller.  Carly Simon came over to me and told me that my son was very cute.  Little did she know that a few months prior, I was up late at night nursing Roman–he was sick and Simon was a guest on a late night TV show.  Her dress was low cut and Roman crawled up to the TV and tried to breastfeed from her TV image. This is a totally true story!!!

Another encounter was Robin Williams. I was standing alone, waiting for someone, I can’t remember who–but it was a side street in NYC.  It was during the afternoon when all was quiet and he passed by with a little “hello”.  It’s a nice memory.

But the one encounter that will stand out as the most spectacular was when John Kennedy Jr. stopped to help me one day.  I was on the way to pick up the boys at school. They were attending St. Ignatius Loyola on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  Oona was two years old.

Still young enough for the stroller. My Oona had no idea that the handsomest man in the world would pat her cheek!

As was my routine to drive to the school some time before school ended for the day, I would park the car (because I knew the alternate side parking schedule for every street in the area), and run errands.

This one particular day, I was bogged down with packages hanging from the stroller and it started to tip back.  The package I had in my hand dropped to the ground. John Kennedy Jr. was passing by and saw me.  And didn’t he stop to assist this damsel in distress.

I am telling you, photos did not do this man justice.  It’s a shame he is no longer with us. But let me tell you that his mother raised one helpful and charming son!

I almost had a heart attack.  Let me tell you something.  I had seen him back when I was working on Wall Street before my stay-at-home mom days.  The Wall Street area was a very small community back then and it seemed as though during lunch time, every building emptied out.  John Kennedy was so good looking that when he was out on the street, women would just stop in their tracks to admire him.  He was a modern-day Adonis.

The fact I finally saw him up close and personal just about took my breath away.  He bent down, picked up my package then stopped when he saw Oona in the stroller.  Then he touched her cheek and said, “Your daughter is beautiful”.   How do you answer that???????

What I wanted to say was “You are the most beautiful specimen of humanity that I’ve ever laid eyes upon.”  “You are even more handsome than your photographs!!”

Instead, I just thanked him and didn’t wash Oona’s face for a week!

Oh—if cell phones had been created back then, I would have taken Oona out of her stroller, placed her in young Mr. Kennedy’s arms and would have had a field day taking photos!!!

And as time marches on, I find myself less enthralled with spotting the famous and infamous these days.

Daniele,  the actor Antoine Bourseiller and me hanging out on Pont Neuf. This photo has to be about ten or eleven years old. I know people.

It seemed back then—a good 25 to 30 years ago, it was the stories we told of our interaction with those of the celebrity nature.–we didn’t whip our phones out to display the photos!  Stories are a thing of the past because now those spotting’s or engaging moments are told not with words, but with our iPhone cameras.

I’ll be honest. I use my phone more to take photos than to call people!

I think I like the stories better. Wait!  I DO like the stories better!!!!

What about you?  Do you have any chance encounters with the famous that you would like to tell us about?  It’ll be fun to read your words and come up with a visual in our minds rather than a selfie.

Do tell!

Today’s video is my introduction to my YouTube channel.  It only took me three hours to figure out how to add this “trailer” to my YouTube channel.  I have to admit to you.  I want my channel to be a success because it so out of the norm.  No fillers. No Botox.  Wrinkles galore—but it’s natural.  And I want it to be that way.  But this blog is still my baby and I’m most at ease writing words!!!

  1. Oh. The story I could tell you about how long it took me to add this as a “trailer” would take forever!  Remember to “like” if you like the video and hit “subscribe”.  I can’t even any more today!!!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Great post Catherine. Ton of FUN to read! I am also a woman of words… Comes with my job I guess.

  2. bonnie says:

I’ve had few opportunities to be around famous people. I stood next to John Wayne once in a fancy department store in Chicago. I can’t think of any others. But I really want to say, that I love your blog when you talk about real life and especially your life with Bonaparte. He’s had quite the life. Does his having known so many famous people intimidate you at all? But in the end we are all just people, aren’t we?

    • Catherine says:

You know, Bonnie. That is a great question about Bonaparte’s knowing famous people intimidating me. No. I’m such an awful person though because it doesn’t intimidate me at all, it just adds to my deep shallowness because in my delusional mind, I think that somehow I’m connected to the too. How ridiculous is that?? LOL!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  3. Elizabeth says:

With all due respect to Monsieur B, YOU wIn!!!

I follow several blogs that are geared to the over 50 woman, and yours is the most personable and realistic and enjoyable to read. You have had and are having such an interesting and full life, and we are all richer for your generosity in sharing it with us.I like stories better also, but your videos are such a fun way to add another layer for you to inform and entertain us.

You asked if your readers had had any encounters with famous people or celebrities, and I’ve been fortunate to have several and in the most unusual places. Remember the first Poseidon Adventure movie with Gene Hackman as the priest who led people to safety by scooting along pipes above water and a raging fire below? He ushers the last person across the pipe to the door, and then lacking the strength to save himself, he lets go of the pipe and drops to the water and fire below.

I think I was still in high school but old enough to drive when I saw this movie with five other girls. When Gene Hackman fell into the water, my friend ran screaming up the aisle, “Oh, no, why did he have to die!”. We all thought it was hysterical.

On a trip a few years ago to Tucson, our host at the B&B where we were staying allayed our fears about crossing the border to Nogales, Mexico and told us to just walk across, amble about the shops, and have lunch in a cantina.

We were in a little restaurant in Nogales that had very few patrons, but a few tables behind my husband was a table of two men. There was a steady stream of restaurant employees going up to this table and talking to the man who had his back to my husband. Finally this man turned his head slightly, and from his profile I could tell it was Gene Hackman. I told my husband that I just had to go tell him about my friend who was so despondent about his death in the Poseidon Adventure. I went to the table and apologized for bothering him but told him that I had a story that he might find amusing. He was so nice and thanked me for sharing. If I had hesitated a bit, I’m sure I would have talked myself out of approaching him, but I’m glad I did.

Keep on being your fun self!

    • Catherine says:

OMG. Marsha! I’m dying with laughter here because I AM that friend! I’ve been the one to scream out stuff at movies like that. And I think that story is great. It’s also divine intervention that you were able to share it with Gene Hackman!!
Thank you for giving us all a great story with some fun visuals!!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

Love the stories, really enjoyed reading them. Xoxo

  7. speak766 says:

Great post! I agree – the stories are what we remember the most. I remember I saw George Clooney when I was 12 in California. He had an entire entourage around him and was trying to order dinner, but being only 12 and quite small, I managed to sneak around everyone and get his autograph. I don’t have any pictures of this, but I remember the story vividly.

  8. Cindylou says:

You win! Encountering John Kennedy Jr surpasses anyone else.

  9. KEWLM0M says:

Love, love, LOVE being able to hear your voice and see your mannerisms and enjoy your thoughts that you share with us on aging and beauty and travel and fashion and just living life to the fullest in the place where we are right now! Well done! You know, it’s been less than a year since I found your blog. I used to log on several times every day just to see if there was a new post up. Then, I started to follow you on Instagram, and getting your texts first thing in the morning encouraged me so much and gave me a positive outlook for my own day just seeing what you were doing! But now, seeing your YouTube videos -it’s like visiting with you! You have no idea how much you have brightened my days! Cathe, please keep doing what you do! You are an inspiration and always provide a sunny, positive outlook, for me and I’m sure for many others as well!♡♡♡

    • Catherine says:

OMG. Thank you so much Kewl!!!! I’m getting all misty-eyed now. You bet I’ll be keeping on with this!!!!! Thank you again. I’m thrilled that you are enjoying the videos!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  10. bluetulips says:

WoW, John Kennedy Junior, yeah like the others said you win, not only did he stop, helped you then kissed your daughter. Love it!!!!

    • Catherine says:

Dianne. I remember everything about that day. John. Kennedy. Jr.!!!!!! To this day, I don’t think Oona realizes how lucky she was!!!! XXOXOXOXO!!!!

  11. Bonnie B says:

I love your blog!! You’ve inspired me to play with makeup again and buy pointy shoes! Most impressive is that you are also showing that 60+ can learn new things and tackle computer challenges. You go girl!

    • Catherine says:

Thaks Bonnie. LOL!! The biggest challenge is trying to tackle the computer stuff. I swear the programs are created for the people who have complex minds and simpletons such as myself are not given a thought!! But damnit–I’m determined and I’m so happy that you are playing with makeup and buying pointy shoes!!!!!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  12. Miss Bougie says:

I can contribute some. In the 70’s I came across Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg on the Rue Saint Honoré. I also sat next to Michèle Morgan at a restaurant on rue de Rivoli and just this last spring I shared a restaurant with Isabelle Adjani. She was wearing these huge sunglasses, hoping nobody would recognise her. Otherwise I crossed paths with Jean Pierre Castaldi while accompanying his young daughter, or was it his granddaughter? , to school.
For a while Emmanuelle Béart and Juliette Binoche lived close by and we had children of the same age at the same kindergarten. So I got to see them quite often in the morning, dropping off their kids! Otherwise there is Paul Belmondo (son of Jean Paul Belmondo) and his wife Luana, living just down the road. I see her with a messy bun and in sweat pants walking the dog, right behind my house. Luana is on TV in a culinary show. I also see her hubby down at the shops buying newspaper. Their sons went to my daughter’s school so I got to see him pick up his boys.
I regularly met Laetitia Holiday, wife of Johnny Holiday the singer, at the local supermarket where I do my grocery shopping, while they still lived in France. I believe they’ve moved to LA now.
Pierce Brosnan said hello to me, while dressed in just a bath robe (ahem….so was I; dressed in a bathrobe, that is! ) at the place where I get my massages and go to the pool and gym! I can tell you, he is some serious eye candy!!!
And last, but not least, my neighbour, as in right across my door sharing an elevator and interacting with nearly every day as we go about our daily buisiness, is Geneviève Cluny (stage name) former French actress, famous in the 50’s / 60’s. She’s a gem and always regaling me with stories from the golden times, when she comes over for a cuppa. 😉

    • Catherine says:

Wow!! B!! You win the French prize on this one!!! You have seen so many of my favorites!!! Daniele had the greatest Jane Birkin story of all time but I promised her that I would keep my mouth shut–or at least not write it on my blog. I freaking’ LOVE Jane Birkin!!!!!! And this story is epic!
I’ve heard that Adjani is not the most pleasant person on earth but boy, she gave one great performance in Camille Claudel–it’s one of my favorite films!
Emanuelle Beart–I’m a huge fan too!
Eric Clapton was sitting at a table across from me two years ago in a cafe in Paris and I Gilles Lellouche was sitting at another table in the same cafe. I need to get back to France!! OXOXOXOXO!!!!

  13. fiona says:

Bonaparte has certainly led a glamorous life rubbing shoulders with (and being related to) all those celebs. I have an original 1972 movie poster in my bedroom of Annie Giradot and Jean Rochefort, I’m glad you said he was a nice man, he has a kind face, I’d have been disappointed to discover that he wasn’t. I have seen lots of celebrities at the airport where I work and when I was a flight attendant had quite a few famous passengers, mostly Brits that you probably wouldn’t know. Most recently I saw George Clooney and Amal. (she is SO skinny) I don’t usually approach famous faces, it’s not professional at work and plus… some of them are so up themselves!
John Kennedy Jnr is hard to beat.
Did I mention that I love the videos, you are so natural and are just being yourself…Please don’t ever change, even when you are a You Tube sensation and have 250k subscribers! That woman who shows you how to fold a scarf 50 different ways has more make-up than Selfridges on her face. Really? xxxxxx

    • Catherine says:

LOL. Fiona–you are such a great support for me!! I doubt I’ll get more than 200 subscribers on my channel. Everyone says they want natural but they gravitate to those who are pumped, lifted and filled! It’s an upward battle!
Anyway, yes, Jean Rochefort had been friends with Bonaparte’s family for a long, long time and was especially close to one of B’s nephews. We were on a flight from Paris to Nice with him and he was just a very unassuming persona. I’m very lucky to have met him and spoken with him and gotten to see what a truly kind and humble man he was. It’s nice when a celebrity is just kind!!!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  14. Paula lonardo says:

I just LOVE your blogs!!! Reading them has become a morning ritual….. it used to be my daily devotional first thing but now it’s you!!! I sit in bed with cup of tea in hand, my Siamese cat sits in the window watching the world go by and I read all about your life 🙂
In 1988 I ran into Michael Landon at Tucson airport, I will never forget how he walked towards me with two body guards and wife and daughter in tow. He was wearing a crisp white shirt…. along with the tan and winning smile he was the most handsome man I had ever seen ( bearing in mind I was only 19 years old!)
Back in the U.K. on an unassuming dreary day I was in a mall with my friend. A man walked past us and I stopped dead in my tracks…..
I turned around and watched him walk into a toy store. I told my friend I knew I knew him but couldn’t place him. I waited for him to come out and asked him if he was an actor. I gazed into his eyes,I mean I literally got up in his face whilst he continued to tell me in a calm manner of some of the tv shows he had been in.I thanked him and still couldn’t place him. Once he was out of sight I realized it was Bernard Hill….. a British actor who played in 1997’s movie Titanic…. he played the Captain: he was also a King in The Lord Of The Rings.
    Anyway that’s ‘ my tuppence worth’ ,!
    Have a great day xxxxx

    Ps
I am writing my memoirs for the kids….. you inspire me not to give up!!!

    • Catherine says:

Paula!! Michael Landon. He of the best head of hair next to that lion’s mane of Barry Gibb’s!!! Landon was an incredibly handsome man and must have been even moreso in person!!! Hey. I know who Bernard Hill is–a great actor, but I don’t know him. Is he related to Benny Hill perchance!
I think it is a GREAT idea that you are writing your memoirs for the kids!!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  15. shelbeeontheedge1 says:

You really do know people, Cathe! And I know you! So how awesome is that! I have only had a few chance encounters with celebrities in my life time. But I do recall Pete Rose frequenting my living room…not sure why…I think he was a friend of my father’s good friend. We would go to Phillies games and get to go down into the dug out afterwards which was very cool for my 8 year old tomboy self! And once, when I was working in Manhattan, I handed my resume to Al Roker! He gave me the strangest look and I think I saw him toss it in the trash as he rounded the next corner! Hahahaha! Great post, my friend.

Michelle! I LOVE Pete Rose–he got the raw end of the deal from MLB for the longest time. I’m a huge fan of his–and I’m not a Phillie’s fan–my heart is with the Yankees, Mets, Cubbies and Red Sox–odd choices but, hey! LOL. That Al Roker story is a hoot!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  16. doodletllc says:

While living in NYC I bumped into Al Sharpton (literally…rather he bumped into me and kept on walking) and Spike Lee and Danny Aiello and I worked with Spike’s brother David. I was dying to meet Jackie Kennedy and almost did, but I missed her when she was at Gimbels (my store at the time) on 86th and Lex when she ran in to buy pantyhose. Actually living in Albuquerque (Hollywood East) I run into actors all the time. There is tons of filming going on here because of the great credits the State gives the movie industry. Jeff Bridges in my building elevator (sparkling blue eyes and dressed as a Texas Ranger) and Johnny Depp…very intense and focused (on the set of Transcendence), to name a few. Oh yes, one more…I met the Rockettes at a Christmas party in NYC…they were between shows…I remember I was so freaked out about attending the party with all these beautiful girls…dumb, I know…truth be told, they looked tired and just sat around drinking…no dancing for them. 🙂 Love your entries…I agree, you win…but who’s counting?

    • Catherine says:

Hi Jeanne! Wow. Al Sharpton–I’m on the fence about him. Sometimes I love him and sometimes I have to give him the old eyeroll! But you worked with Spike Lee’s brother? I’m a huge fan of Spike Lee!!! And Danny Aiello too. I had a crush on him years ago!!! I did see Jackie Kennedy a few times over on the Upper East Side–she was much prettier in real life and skinny as all get out! I have not seen one famous person in the Philly area. Gee. I wonder why???? LOL!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!

  17. Charlotte says:

What a fun post! JFK Jr.!!! Yes you do win! When I was reading that story it reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine meets JFK Jr. in an exercise class- it is the episode where they have the contest about being the “masters of their domains” LOL. Anyway met a few people over the years but the nicest was when I sat next to Marcel Mareau on a United flight from Chicago to Florida. He told me so many stories and talked about his kids. He was a true gentleman.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Charlotte!!! YES!!! That’s exactly how I felt when meeting JFK Jr.!!! I was the mom version of Elaine Bennis!!! Oh wow. I would have LOVED to have been on the plane next MM..it’s so nice when someone is charming and sweet–isn’t it???? XOXOXOXO!!!!

  18. maidsdayoff says:

Living and working in Chicago for years, I had a chance to see a lot of movies and TV shows filming. Ferris Buehler’s Day Off, an episode of Knight Rider, lots of ER episodes. I saw a lot of celebs from afar, but never really interacted with any of them. The closest I got was walking down the steps from the el (Chicago’s elevated portion of the subway system) past Kyle Chandler when he was in the show Early Edition. He was waiting for the crowd to clear so they could start shooting on the platform. I was too surprised to say anything – plus I was already almost late for work! haha!

    • Catherine says:

You saw Ferris Bueller being filmed????????????????????????? That is one of the greatest movies of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG. you were so lucky..and Kyle Chandler is quite the eye candy if you ask me!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

      • maidsdayoff says:

My office was on the second floor overlooking Michigan Avenue in Chicago. They filmed them driving the sports car down the street. We had no idea what the movie was going to be – and the stars were unknown at the time, but it was fun to watch the process. They filmed a scene from Knight Rider across the street (that building was also the diamond shaped building from Adventures in Babysitting). My coworker bought binoculars so she could watch David Hasselhoff get out of the talking car and rush into the building about a million times!
And yes! I have always thought Kyle Chandler was a hottie! I wished I’d had the guts to say something!

  19. HelloIm50ish says:

    OMG Catherine!
I met a lot of celebrities and partied with a few of them when I was a flight attendant back in the day, (We used to send the perfect matched flight attendants to talk to the celebrity on board. (Diana Ross- the gay flight attendants always got us backstage passes!!) but again this is hilarious! My favorite 2 celebrities were Dolly Parton and Paul Newman. She was tiny and funnier than s*@*! and he loved my blue eyes. (I filled up an airsick bag with Bud’s as a parting gift.)

    Hugs,
    Robin

    • Catherine says:

Robin. You had the best job of all time. I want to be a flight attendant NOW and none of the airlines want to hire me. It may be because I freak out during turbulence!! But those stories are a riot!! I LOVE Dolly Parton!!!! Paul Newman loved your eyes!!! Wow!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  20. Jenny says:

Well I have met (as in seen outside the stage door) a few British stars who you won’t know in the states and in the 60’s I used to frequent the Liverpool scene and saw the Beatles several times. I also met Paul and Linda McCartney when I worked in a 6th form college. Their children were students at our college and I really liked Linda who was very down to earth. My claim to fame though was meeting Her Maj the Queen in the early 1970’s when she visited the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Some of my colleagues were a bit miffed that she spoke to a Brit rather than a Canadian but I did smile a lot in those days so she probably thought I would be good to speak to. Straight after her came Prince Philip so I have had a chat with the cream of British royalty. My family still tease me about this!

  21. Jenny says:

Desmond Llewelyn who played Q in so many Bond movies lived locally so we got him to come and talk to our Cub group and he brought one of his gadgets, which my son won. It’s amazing when you start thinking about it how many people you meet.

  22. Q.D says:

Can you PLEASE tweet that Carly Simon story and tweet it at her!

I used to live around the corner from Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’ Sydney home, so I used to run into them grocery shopping and at the beach and just being regular people all the time, because they ARE just regular people!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Q.! I think it’s too long!! Feel free to copy, paste and tweet it at her if you can! I LOVE HUGH JACKMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  23. Juliet says:

Well coming from NZ and now living in a small village in Scotland I cant think of anyone famous – we did have a prime minster of NZ living down our street when I was little (Norm Kirk – a totally decent and ornery kinda guy) and we played at school with his daughter, but nope – nobody else, not that I would recognise many. Well except you. You just tell that Bonaparte that to us you are way more celebrity than any of these celebrities as you’re our gal, and while he may have met loads of celebrities, you ARE celebrity (at least to us). Binge watched your you-tube clips last night – it was brilliant!!! I think I got my friend hooked on the idea of Repettos and Chippy had me crying with laughter – he is hilarious. Really enjoying them

OMG. Juliet!!! I would be the best celebrity ever because I would be so nice to everyone. (except certain politicians) LOL!!! I’m showing your comment to Bonaparte!!!!! XOXOXOXO. Oh. Chippy is the star of the videos!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

I often travel into London on weekends to take our children to the Museums, and will explore places like Covent Garden with them – whispering in their ear “keep an eye out for famous people” 🙂 I’ve seen a few over the years – almost always dressed down, trying to remain anonymous – and invariably I let them remain so.

Hi Jonathan! That’s what was great about living in NYC. I allowed the celebrities to come to me, rather than me going to them. Same when we are in Paris. But the cool thing is being a part of the celebrity–When B’s aunt, Daniele was alive people would come up to her quite often, which was so odd to me–I always thought Parisians were too “cool” to go up to a celebrity. Daniele was always so kind and cordial and graceful. It was fun to be on the other side, even if just observing!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

Woman!!!! Geez you can bloody write!
I thoroughly enjoyed this & well done getting your Youtube channel up. The lighting is brilliant btw, mine was crap for the first few vlogs. Meeting famous people is a funny thing when it’s part of your job. I often had the feeling of familiarity when I met a celeb in my job as a Mup Artist. You know as if we’d already met, “don’t I know you?” Weird.
Meeting JFK jnr is pretty awesome, lucky you😉

    • Catherine says:

OMG. Retro. Did you ever meet Nadine Baggott? I love her. I binged YT last weekend watching her. She has the best botox and fillers of all time. I want to move to London to work for her!! I’m serious!!
Thank you for your encouraging words my love!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

I can really relate to your JFK Jr. story. He is one of the few people I have ever been around who had true charisma. One day in the early 90s he held the door for me as I was entering GCT, smiling patiently as I stopped in my tracks in utter awe. I squeaked out a “thanks”, all flushed and breathless. The ticket agent I interacted with after my encounter asked me if I was OK and when I told her who I had run into, she was just as excited as I. Most New Yorkers are pretty jaded about famous folks, so you know he was special.

    • Catherine says:

Heidi. It’s so true about JFK Jr. Even the most jaded NY’er would get all ga-ga over him. He WAS special and so charismatic. It’s a shame what happened to him and his wife. XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

Well THAT was a star-studded (though I hate to use that word after reading your OTHER post!) blog! I don’t know who Nathalie Baye is, but she’s gorgeous!
