The only powders I will put on my face are “Well Rested” by Bare Minerals and my powdered eyeshadows. In the summer when my face gets a bit dewy (which is fancy talk for sweaty), I’ll add a powdered bronzer—very, very lightly. That’s it.

I’ve written a gazillion times of my love for Well-Rested. It’s a product I automatically purchase when I’m running low because it is a great eye brightener and even though it’s a powder, the wrinkles don’t show up.

Everything else is a cream-based product. Especially my blush. And let me tell you something. It isn’t easy to find a decent cream blush. Some are too sparkly. Some don’t glide on that great. Some aren’t pigmented. And some fade after an hour or so.
When I was younger—even back into my early to mid-fifties, I was able to get away with a powder blush but once I hit my late fifties—nope! My skin just got too dry and the powder blushes just didn’t look right.
I’ve written about this in past blog posts and the blushes I now use are creams but I’m reaching the bottom of the barrel with my Nars Multiples Stick and my Charlotte Tilbury Las Salinas.

I’ve also hit pan on my Stila cream blush Sweet Pea which is my favorite and I’ll not be repurchasing because it’s been discontinued. It isn’t even available on the Stila website.
I know–it’s a mess but I’ll continue to use this until I can’t use no more!!!!
So off I went in search of another cream blush. And I found a great one that I’m gonna tell you about.
MAC Cosmetics. You know that I’ve been obsessed with the eye shadow palettes that you can “create”. Well, the same can be done with blush.
I can’t say enough about these great eye shadow palettes that I’ve created. They are getting a lot of use from me!
I went back to the MAC store at the King of Prussia Mall and checked out the cream blushes. I created a little palette of a blush and a contour. Trust me, I don’t need another contour, but I figured this could be decent for travel.
Yet, another palette I’ve created. This is my cheek palette! On top, Dusk Taupe that I’m using for a contour. On the bottom, Pink Shock, a shockingly beautiful cream blush!
The blush, Pink Shock, certainly does look shockingly pink when you first look at it. But it goes on to add a pretty flush.
Another plus is that the product stays put in the palette. It does’t move around. Notice the nick in the contour. My nails. I swear I can’t keep anything looking nice!
To apply, I gently pat, in a stippling motion, actually my eco blush brush and then very lightly pat on my upper cheekbone. This blush has a great texture because it isn’t overly creamy. And—it stays put. All day.
I think I paid under five bucks for the brush by Eco. It’s a great brush for applying blush!
The color lends itself well for a nice bit of brightness. And blends in beautifully.
The contour—I used it today and applied with my finger then blended with a spoon brush. I like it a lot and think it’ll serve me well. The color is a very cool taupe, which works well with my fair coloring.
But back to the blush. The price was $14 each for the blush and the contour. The palette, with the inserts to hold the blushes was $10. So, for the price of $38, the duo cost less than the Charlotte Tilbury Las Salinas Beach Stick which costs $45 and the Nars Multiple which costs $39. The Stila Cream blushes are $25 each and you get around the same amount of product as the MAC refill.
I think for the cost; the MAC cream blush refill is a great price and you have many shades to choose from.

So that’s it for today! Let me know what you think if you are a user of blush. Honestly, the cream blushes are incredibly mature skin friendly. I highly recommend the MAC products and I’m telling you, I can’t wear MAC foundation because none of their shades work for me, but the other products are great!

Today was a lovely day. I got a great deal of work done and I’m just enjoying my job! I was listening to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” on my ride home and it made me think about the fact that all our days are quite lovely. Don’t you agree?
HI – I have tried the Nars Multiple ( best friend who is 10 yrs younger had same issue as I did) …it just sort of melted into my skin and disappeared. Of course the sales person said it was because of my mature dry skin…and that the issue was my skin and for lots of $$$$ and new skin care products I could fix this issue. Did you ever have this problem with cream blushes where it just gradually disappeared? If so, any recommendations/solutions because i know every single article says I should be using cream blush, not powder but it just will not stay put
Nancy–do you use a primer? I swear I haven’t had that issue at all. And the Sales person was full of $hit–mature skin isn’t going to make the blush disappear. Try different formulas. Or perhaps the color may have been too light? I use a primer first, then foundation, and the blush over it. When I apply the Multiples I stiple the product on a brush first then apply the product with a brush. Hmmmmmm. I need to look into this!! XOXOXOXO!!!!
Good Morning- No I do not use a primer so maybe that would help. I want to use one BUT am overwhelmed by which one to purchase. I know you used to like Rimmel(?) but then got mad at how little was actually in the bottle…which one do you use/like these days? Maybe that is the solution?

Hi Nancy. If you get the chance, check out The Ordinary’s primers they are ridiculously inexpensive but are fantastic. So is Hard Candy’s Primer–a tiny bit goes a long—long—-long way!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

I know you like to get cheaper drugstore makeup for travel. I discovered Sonia Kusak cream blush at Target when I read your suggestions about switching to cream blush. Color selection isn’t great but I think the pink looks decent on me.
I had been using Bare Minerals powder blush and their gel foundation. It looks yellow on me when I start but blends in well.
I also Like some of the e.l.f. products, it’s fun to find them at Marshall’s and TJ Max so cheap, I feel like they great to try at those prices. I agree their primer is deceptively packaged. I’ve found I like a primer Mabelline makes with a slight green tint that helps hide my slight Rosacea.
I’m also a fan of Mabeline mascara that comes in a green tube. It has a fine brush and doesn’t flake into my sensitive eyes. Sorry I can’t get the actual mascara name without disturbing the cat😻
Hi Bobby! I like the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer..it’s great. I USED to love Maybelline’s The Falsie’s mascara but they’ve changed the formula and it isn’t as good as it used to be. OMG–it’s so much fun to find beauty products at the cheap at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s–I find great buys all the time!!!

I love the Nars blush in Orgasm as it’s not too pink more pinky peach it looks great in the summer.
i need to find a less peach colour for the winter but I have a lot of red in my cheeks and some blush makes me look like a clown:( especially after a glass of red wine! FYI I am healing up pretty well after my surgery..I am feeling bored at home but have a few more weeks of recovery left. At least I can cook now and don’t have to rely on Mr. Momcat’s culinary skills (Kraft dinner or grilled cheese)

I have exactly The same MAC bright pink blush! It works brilliantly and just makes you look like you’ve come in from the cold with pink cheeks rather than the neon colour it looks in the pot! I’m looking up those powders – they look great. Also… swear by primers. It makes a huge difference to your skin as you get older. I love the bare minerals one and the Mac one is good too – stops the red nose and chin look! Thanks for a very useful post – please do one on ideas of what to wear to the office! I keep sticking to the same old boring suit. I want to look fashionable but not foolish!
Hey Warrior!! That blush is fantastic!!!! I love primers too. One that I really love is by Hard Candy. It’s $8. and a little goes a long, long way. I’m also into The Ordinary primers. I don’t think I could put foundation on my face without a primer. They are a godsend! Hmmm..thank you for the suggestion of office attire.
