Random Thoughts For A Snowy Day–And the Mistakes We Make!

First of all, I’m incredibly shocked at the major snowfall we are having on this second day of Spring 2018.  My office closed for the day and I was pretty-much upset—not about the snow, but about the office being closed.  I know that upon returning the work load will be doubled.

Three in the afternoon and it’s been snowing since after midnight!

And there lies my issue.  Rather than fester about the increasing workload that’ll face me, I should just concentrate on this Wednesday at home.  But the thing is, in the month I’ve been working, I really really enjoy my job.  I love the entire process of commuting, arriving and burying myself into the daily tasks.  It gives me a purpose.

This will be me tomorrow. But I don’t really mind because I’m so lucky to be working again!

But you know what?  I can’t control the workload and I can’t control the weather so I’m just going to enjoy this day because it gives me time to work on the blog!

And, while my dear work-a-holic husband was out with clients, it gave me the chance to do something nice for him and shovel the driveway!

My snow day handiwork!  I haven’t had this much fun in the snow since the kids were at home!

Speaking of which. I wanted to post a what-I-wore last week but my iPhone camera got messed up with the IOS updates.  Sometimes technology is not the best of our friends! My photos disappeared!

All that was kept was this photo from Saturday, St. Patrick’s Day. I wore my dad’s sweater and I swear he saved the photo for me!

Back to the snow.  Bonaparte was really ticked off that it snowed because he’s one who can’t stand winter. At all. He loves the heat. He thrives upon humidity.  The hotter and muggier, the better.

Summertime is a great time as far as I’m concerned, but I am not a fan of the humidity that goes along with the heat. Give me dry. Give me a nice breeze and as long as I can drive barefoot, I’m happy.

And I’m not annoyed with the snow either.  The seasons have been in transition for quite some time now.  Remember when we actually had four seasons?  Remember when September arrived and within a week, the air became brisk and cool?  Now September can be, and is often hotter than August, and Fall doesn’t really begin until late October.  Same with Spring.  It seemed that years ago, Spring was in full swing by mid-April.  Flowers began to bloom, trees were covered with that lovely Crayola “spring green” color.  These days we are left with a rainy Spring that begins to warm up a couple of weeks before summer arrives.

OMG!  I was looking for images of Spring Green by Crayola because it truly IS the greatest spring color off all time and I found it ON OUR OWN FRIEND “DOODLE T’S” BLOG!!!   Click and read what she wrote!!! Crayola’s Spring Green

So today, I’m kicking back and am just enjoying the weather for what it is. A day to be with Chippy and you and waiting for Bonaparte’s retreat home!

Chippy enjoying some deck time…

He’s so chill!

Something else happened today that I found to be quite confusing.  One of my favorite blogs arrived in my email this morning and I was very excited to read it.  I’m not gonna mention the blog because something in the context disturbed and confused me. And I hope—no—I know it was a mistake because it couldn’t have been written in the way it appeared.  Body Shaming.  Photos of complete strangers and verbiage about their lack of healthy body shapes.  It really upset me to read this.  Especially since it is one of my favorite blogs and the blogger is a fun and kind woman.

Too-thin women are body shamed.  Too-heavy women are body shamed.  Too-old women are body shamed.  Too-flabby women are body shamed. There is a reason why people are too thin or too heavy.  Sometimes it is an emotional reason. Sometimes a health reason. Whatever reason, nobody should be shamed!

In scrolling through the comments, I only read one or two that called her out on this. I was the third. Someone commented that those who called out had no sense of humor.  That’s a lame excuse.  Humor is humor and my humor usually falls at MY expense and not the expense of others.  I’m my best subject to poke fun at!

Preach, baby. Preach!

You know, everyone makes mistakes. I am sure I’ve made mistakes in my blog—I’m not talking about mistakes in printing or grammar.  I’m talking about mistakes that may hurt people.  If you see that I’m being unkind in any of my posts, honest to god, please call me out on it.  Sometimes we just don’t realize that we have the power to hurt with words and photos—we’re so occupied with what we are writing and our tone may not seem mean but at times, we need it to be brought to our attention.

Please point out my Oops moments!  But I do have many of them!

So please—make me aware of my errors.

Speaking of which, everyone makes mistakes but it’s how we handle other’s errors   can also be a mistake.  We were watching Bill Maher’s Real Time last night (Thank God for “On Demand”) Billy Bush was a guest.  And after that infamous “Bus Video” with the one who’s in the White House now, Bush was the clear loser.  He lost a great job and was exiled like Napoleon was to Elba. Meanwhile, the narcissistic filth who uttered the demeaning words toward women sits in the White House with a bunch of cowards who enable him.

Bill Maher with Billy Bush, who lost his job due to Trump’s words.  I’m a huge fan of Maher’s because he goes after both parties.  I don’t agree with his views on religion otherwise, I’m pretty-much in agreement with mostly all his opinions!  And Bush should not be ostracized.  It’s the other one who said the words.  And if I was making the kind of oney that Billy Bush was making at the time, I would have kept my mouth shut too!

Bush admitted to a mistake he made by not standing up to the pig over 13 years ago.  Maher understood this and that’s why he had Bush on the show.

The self-righteous panel Pete Dominick, Nayyera Haq & Andrew Ross Sorkin, was quite rough on Bush. And I thought that was so wrong.  You want to go after the real culprit?  Go after the draft-dodging coward. This Bush admitted to an error.

Pete Dominick, comedian and radio show host…

Nayyera (“I’m-so-much-better-than-you) Hag, former White House Sr. Director and Former State Dept. Sr. Advisor…..

…and Andrew Ross Sorkin, NY Times financial columist, all came at Bush as though he was a criminal.  Dominick and Hag came across as absolutely self-righteous and condescending to no end.  Sorkin wasn’t as bad.  But seriously–these three never made a mistake??  Give me an effing break!

Whatever happened to forgiving someone for a dumb mistake.  People these days are so high and mighty that they can’t let someone else’s non-damaging mistakes go.

Same with my gorgeous beauty-guru Tati Westbrook.  Westbrook, one of YouTube’s most successful beauty reviewers (and my favorite) created her own brand.   Most everyone (including me) thought her brand would be makeup.  Rather, she created a vitamin supplement, much to the dismay of many of her followers.  The backlash this poor girl received was absolutely uncalled for.

I swear I can’t buy a stinking cosmetic without thinking about if Tati reviewed it!  But those supplements of hers—-I wanna know who talked my girl into that one.  I do believe it may have been a business mistake and if so, who cares. Tati rocks the reviews!

Sure—I would have loved if she created a makeup line, but it’s her business and nobody else’s! She could have possibly made a mistake on the supplements and if she did, it’s no big deal. But from the video’s that were made in retaliation against her supplements were just mean an unkind.

We all make mistakes. We all make errors. And whether or not we realize it, most of us don’t mean to make them.  We learn from them (hopefully) and move on.

Will I continue to read that favorite blog of mine, even though a bit of a mistake was written?  Sure will!  She’s entertaining and fun.

Will I continue to watch my little Tati even though I won’t be purchasing her supplements?  Sure will!  She gives the best reviews ever!

What do I think of Billy Bush?  Hey. I hope he finds another job. Brian Williams was re-hired by MSNBC after lying about a news story?  The one in the White House has done more criminal acts than half of those in jail so Billy Bush should get redemption.

Image result for brian williams

The ironic thing is that lyin’ Brian who reports serious news ended up getting rehired–and on MSNBC while Billy Bush, who reported celebrity fluff got fired and NOT rehired and all he did was NOT speak up to the filth known as Trump. It is all so disturbing! Williams was obviously forgiven for his mistake and Bush wasn’t.

Am I angry with Mother Nature?  Hell no!  She made a huge mistake in making it snow to welcome Spring but perhaps it’s just her idea of a joke!

I didn’t make a mistake to shovel the driveway, but I made a mistake by not bundling up enough. My nose has been running nonstop like a tap for the past hour and a half!

Do I make a mistake?  Every. Single. Day!  But—I try to mend my ways!

My mistake today is being home with this tempting Easter candy. It’s worse than the forty days Jesus spent in the desert!  He should have been here with a bag of Kit Kats instead!

This WAS displayed in this beautiful bowl in the living room. Bonaparte moved it to the kitchen so Chippy wouldn’t be tempted.  Instead I’M tempted.  Life is so not fair at times!

Enjoy the snow if you are a part of this wintry spring weather.  Enjoy the sun if you are experiencing great weather. Either way, have a great day!

Here’s some music for a snowy day.  Amadeus’ Soundtrack by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I saw the movie Sunday on the big screen and although I saw it over a dozen times on TV with my DVD, I never saw it in the movies. It was bigger and better and I loved it so much!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Would ya believe it is 42 degrees in Wisconsin?

Flip flops and shorts um er wait time to start shaving again sigh!

Nice article looks like Chippy had fun!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Debe. The snow is still falling. It’s amazing–why wasn’t this Christmas weather??? LOL. It gives me a few more weeks to put off shaving the legs up to the thighed burns and getting a fake tan!!!!! XOXOXOXOXO

  2. Christine D says:

Hi Catherine, the snow looks so prstty……from a distance. It is truly beautiful. We are having torrential rains with threat of mudslides!
I admire your standing up for what is right (on the left), reasonable and kind. You also generously assume the blog shaming comments were an error…..very kind of you. What would the world be if each of us assumed that the other was not ill intentioned, just misinformed or in error. This approach to life makes a difference in how our peace is ma I Tia ed in our personal relationships.
Today I am sicker by what is on tv……shut it off, all they can talk about is T calling Putan and who he has fucked and fucked over……pardon my French ( apologies to B). This will eventually make a good miniseries, perhaps the call girls will play themselves and Donald will get an Oscar…ha!
Donalds wife needs a medal of some sort………I do feel sorry for her……I’m sure she sticks with him be a use of the kid. Oh bless us all. But thanks for being a pillar of truth, humor and reasonableness. Have fun in snow and enjoy Easter candy……..do t give to dog.
    Best Wishes
    Chris.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Chris. As you know, I am forbidden to watch the news channels because my blood pressure rises with and every day he is in the White House. I’m sure those body shaming photos and comments were not meant to be as vicious as they appeared to be. But God almighty, when my own daughter was growing up, I REFUSED to have ANY fashion magazines in my home because I did not want Oona to have a negative view on her beautiful athletic body. From sports and dance, she had a lot of muscle and looking at those fashion magazines, the models (at the time) were ghastly thin and I’m sure they had disorders. Thankfully, now we are more friendly to all body types. But it saddens me that we mature and older women can be mean. Comments that put down those who are not into body shaming are just horrific and so immature of these women. What kind of women are they anyway? I’m telling you Chris, this brings on a whole new kind of mature woman debate!!!! XXOXOXO!!!

  3. Sharon Daly says:

I agree with everything in this post, Cathe. Good for you. Still snowing here in Media!

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Sharon!!! Phoenixville is a snowy blanket and the snow is still falling. I’m thinking that this could be a two-day snow day!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  4. Momcat says:

Girl, you have such a generous heart!! Ya just knew my nose would insinuate itself in here..I am sure the blogger made a misguided decision in her post. What she needs to do is own up to that error with an apology to those who were offended. Now if she can’t see what’s so offensive she needs to explain why it’s not to her but still offer an apology to the offended…some splaining needs to be done! Body shaming is not acceptable ANY MORE. It’s NOT FUNNY. It’s just mean girl shit but if she isn’t attuned to that then her head is tightly in her butt!! As much as we can choose to read whatever blog we want I believe a blogger needs to be transparent about what she writes and/or puts out there for her ‘followers’ to read. Because maybe one of them will think it’s HILAROUS and show it to an astute millennial who will just shake their head and say “Mom, that’s just not funny and it’s unacceptable.” The reader will then unsubscribe because who wants their twenty something to call them out for being an idiot. Believe me I have been called out by my motley assortment of twenty somethings and it makes me er..reflect🙏🏻
Hail to you for continuing to keep it real and be willing to be called out for something ( if needed)
Yeah just read comments on another blog where a commenter said something about the blog was going to the mean girls…the blogger said she couldn’t find any evidence of nasty comments, clearly she is protecting her ‘tribe’ because the mean girl comments were all over the blog. For someone who is all about ‘curating’ I don’t think she reads much or just reads into it what she wants The commenter said she was unsubscribing.
They had 100cm of snow in Eastern Townships of Quebec last week!! Frigging cold too but it’s always beautiful there!!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Momcat! Quebecquios (is that the correct term?) would probably laugh at the paltry amount of snow we have compared to you but it is very pretty. and I haven’t seen a snow fall like this in many years–I know the slush factor will be horrible as the snow melts but for now it’s fun.
The mean girl thing. I’ve seen it on so many blogs in such subtle nuances. And many from older bloggers–it is very upsetting to me. In a community where age runs against us as we age, you would think that some of the older bloggers wouldn’t be so…..exclusive. But, what’re you gonna do?
One thing I have no patience for is body shaming–it wreaks havoc on young girls and yes, my daughter has pointed out soooooooooooooooooo many things that I’ve said and done and are not “acceptable”–it’s almost like “WHO’s the mother here?”. LOL. Take care of yourself and I hope you are doing better every day!!! XOXOXOXO

  5. HelloIm50ish says:

    Catherine,
It’s too bad that the fun blogger was body shaming, but what was her point of view for this blog post?
    What not to wear?
We’ve become judge and jury to everythingand everyone on social media.
Our president rants and belittles everyone who disagrees with him. Why should we find the fun blogger any different.
We are a society lacking manners.
I bet your blog got your energy(/temper) up to shovel the driveway!
You should thank her for that!

    HUgs,
    Robin
    http://www.helloim50ish.com

  6. Catherine says:

Hi Robin. The blog post was a bit about travel and people at the beach. It was a couple of beach photos and commentary that were inappropriate. I feel for a woman in one of the pictures–what if she reads that blog on a regular basis and saw the photo of her in the swimsuit with a negative tone. It’s just so out-of-character for the blogger who always writes such fun stuff.
I’m tired of mean. And it’s sad because mean seems to be acceptable these days. I remember as a child, my parents warning us never to lie because dishonesty is the worst thing–and yet, lying is now acceptable. What do people tell their children about lying when the leader of the country is truthfully-challenged.
Hey–I shoveled that driveway better than any man could have!!! XXOXOXOXOX

  7. Great, entertaining post – good to read just as I’m winding down to go to bed. I reckon you deserved those kit kats – shovelling snow burns off at LEAST 2,000 calories

  8. Christine D says:

This is why I stopped watching any of the Real Housewives shows. Many of the women on them IMHO are beautiful but so catty. So competitive with one another and so into how things look only.
They, to me, represent the worst of what women have to offer one another, competition about looks, body, weight, attire and makeup……,and maybe what kind of car one has and what Beverly hills zipcode they have. I try to be real. I wear makeup sometimes but not always. I live in a beach area so attire is very casual. I have more weight than I would prefer but I am healthy and energetic.
I like it when I can meet with a girlfriend and we are not competing or masking who we are from one another. We are women with intellect, personality and opinions, talents and faults…….that’s the real I want. I have a neighbor that is opposite of me. When she sees me or any woman she is looking up and down, checking my skin, nails and my shoes. Of course we all look and compare but let’s lead with connecting thru heart, humor, acceptance of one another first then check out shoes etc.
I believe eating and body image disorders are epidemic. Neighbor spends hours on treadmill, eats only lettuce, has multiple facelifts and doesn’t look happy…….how sad. We have all been exposed to those magazines that you mention that have photoshopped images. How can we compare ourselves to that? Remember when Jamie Curtis posed in magazine in her underwear, no makeup, no touchup…….she looks like the rest of us…….human, not obsessed with body and at some point caring more about who she is instead of how she looks. Curtis did us all a big favor showing us that even movie stars are real underneath it all. But having said all that, I stil want to be the thin one, the pretty one, the younger one…….all I can do is strive for self acceptance and self love……..maybe then I’ll be more ready to care for my neighbor as she is……..and myself as I am…….and you as you are.

    • Catherine says:

Great thoughts and words Chris!! It’s funny but I used to watch the Housewives too but stopped because I just couldn’t handle it anymore. I know we are all judged. That’s why I specifically did not go after great lighting or filters on my YouTube channel. The video camera is not a flattering one and all my faults are on display. I want it like that. I prefer to have people see me “ugly” than pretty because pretty fades. Its whats on the inside that counts. Keep up the good thoughts and insights!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

      • Christine D says:

I see your heart and you could never be ugly…….with or with out makeup, lighting and retouching. You offer us your beauty with all your makeup and hair talents AND you let us see the Real you……..doesn’t get better then that in my book. Thank you.

      • Catherine says:

OMG. Thank you so much Christine! I honestly needed to read that because lately I’ve been seeing tons of filtering!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  9. agshap says:

I have my spring clothes ready to wear….and now this. Not a fan of this white stuff…sister keeps asking me to move to Florida. Looking good right now….except all my kids (& families) are here….cant make that move away….well, better days tomorrow…spring is coming (I hope)

    • Catherine says:

Hi Ag!!! Oh….it continues to snow here in Phoenixville and stopping around midnight. I’m dreading the meltdown because it’l be a mess!! Florida may not be a bad thing!!!! XXOXOXO!!!

  10. I am all about a snow day- we had one today too! I swear by Tati’s reviews as well and Easter Kit Kats taste better than the regular ones!!!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Kenz!!!!!!!!! Isn’t Tati the greatest? Did you see her review on Becca’s “Wet” powder? I need to try that!!!! Oh..even the dollar easter bunnies taste great at Easter time!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  11. anne says:

I also was surprised when I read the blog you are concerned about. This lady seems so lovely and she is a person who many others would consider to be over the top in her attire, but that is why we love her, she is doing what makes her happy. At the very least she should have blanked out the faces of those she chose to body shame – wasn’t there also a big story a year ago when a young blogger body shamed an older lady at the gym? The young blogger was rightly vilified and faced a severe penalty for what she did. The blogger we are discussing now was wrong wrong wrong in what she posted on her blog and I have lost respect for her, I pictured her as a very nice person before but now I wonder!!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Anne. I commented on that post that perhaps she should edit and “paint” out the faces. My God, if that woman reads her blog and sees that. I’m just horrified. She’s a good soul with a huge fan base and I was surprised that only three readers mentioned those photos. I’m convinced that older women are just as mean and exclusive as younger ones. That’s why I don’t belong to any groups except for wig groups because we’ve all “been there” XOXOXOXO!!!

  12. vavashagwell says:

I think you’re touching on some very important issues here with your post. Something is happening in our society and I’m especially concerned about how it will impact young people. They are reading articles about body image, seeing stuff on Instagram that aren’t realistic or attainable, and we have the Liar-in-Chief in the Oval Office. This is why people need to speak up and be the voice of reason. Good for you to call that blogger out. Yeah, Billy Bush definitely got the shaft and hopefully he can get rehired somewhere. Not sure that Brian Williams was actually fired, just removed from the anchor position and relocated elsewhere in the company. Granted, I haven’t paid all that much attention. I am paying attention to the Trump Administration though, and my hope is that there will be a break in the investigation and this guy is shamefully removed from office with a lot of fanfare. Along with his entire corrupt family members. The only one I have any sympathy for is Barron.

    • Christine D says:

I agree. Everyday when watching news…I’m looking for liar in chief’s exit. Liar in chief would make a great name for miniseries, with sex, Russian spies, and traitors………coming soon to a theater near you! All we can do is watch until it’s time to vote again……..or not watch……..too upsetting.
Thanks to all for being and seeking real and kind!

      • Catherine says:

Christine, I’ll be up at the crack of dawn in total blue attire come election day. The filth in Washington needs to be released!!! XOXOXOXOX!!!!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Vava! I often wonder the same about our children. However, the moxie and intelligence and grace that the Floridian high school students have shown gives me hope. It’s like the hippie movement and the youth movement have been reborn. Those kids will make a difference. I love them!!! They will make things better and get that vile filth out of the white house.
You may be correct about Williams. But still, he lied big time and simply ended up with a job where he’s still making a fabulous salary. It’s disgusting. And I do agree about Barron. I feel for that child–he never looks happy. XOXOXOXO!!!!

  13. Hi Catherine, I also read that blog and truly enjoy her attitude, writing style, pets, clothes and glamour. So..I was surprise, too by this particular post. The photos were wrong because they show the faces. Just body shots may have been okay but still kind of mean. I really felt sad when I saw the one of the large woman because we all know that it’s an addiction and there is pain inside her. Not to get too serious about it but it was a negative tone that I wasn’t expecting. I believe there were several comments (way more than three) calling her out on this. She defended herself to a few but then let the rest go. Not owning up to it being a problem is kind of weird.

Anyhow, good for you for being honest in commenting. I didn’t comment but I don’t often comment on that blog.

It’s frustrating when spring plays hard to get. We’re getting a lot of rain here and there’s a rumor it may snow this weekend. 😛

    • Catherine says:

Hi Lisa! I had to comment because it was just so out-of-character for her. I’m very concerned about the women who thought it was ok to do so. If she had just not shown the faces it not have been that bad. I was really disappointed in that part of the post. I’m sure that’ll never occur again! She’s so much better at being funny!!! XOXOXOXO

  14. Lise says:

Hi Cathe, I saw the blog that makes fun of other people and I find it VERY wrong. However I am not that surprised because when I first started reading your blog I picked up a catty comment from this blogger regarding you wearing short skirts – and it prompted me to leave a comment for the first time to tell you that your legs look fabulous in a shorter skirt.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Lise! Holy Cannoli! I remember that comment. I’ll tell you I was a bit shocked at first but remember–all comments are welcomed here. And I thank you for your supporting comment that my legs looked fabulous. I kinda needed that!!! What really hurts is that I’ve lost Instagram followers over my opinions. Yeah. I did. One of my favorite Instagramers stopped following me because I called her out. But you know what? Life is too short to worry about that stuff anyway. I’ll never body shame anyone–nor will I make anyone feel bad–it’s the best I can do!!! Thanks Lise!! XOXOXOXO!!!

This week we have had a top temperature of 38 (Monday) and 9 (Thursday), yet apparently it is Autumn?
