The Weight is Over

Well, I did it!  I made the long-lost return to Weight Watchers last night. And you know, I’m glad I did.

And today I was happy to be back on track.  Why, even my crossed eyes are happy!

It’s funny how you just have to be at that “right” moment to either start or restart a weight loss journey.  At first you may gain a pound or two and then the Holidays come and you go full-blown off whatever structure with eating plans you had and BOOM!!! Before you know it, you’ve gained 14 pounds.

Yes. I gained 14 pounds since September.  The scale at Weight Watchers had me in at 154 pounds.  And considering the feasting I did over the weekend, I thought the number would have been slightly higher.

Anyway, let me tell you about the meeting.

A “Weight Watchers Weigh In” outfit was packed into my tote.  I’m not kidding you. I packed the lightest pair of cropped leggings I could find in the bowels of my dresser.  I also packed a lightweight tee shirt. Oh, I didn’t stop there. I wore thong panties because there is less fabric and my bra was not padded.  Every ounce counts!

In addition, I made sure I was wearing my lightest hair!  I wore my Tony of Beverly Isla wig.

I’m not kidding!  Those leggings and tee are my new weigh-in ensemble and that short blonde Isla wig is my new weigh-in hair!!!

And if there was a private room for a naked weigh-in, I would do it!!

Unfortunately, I would be arrested if I got naked to weigh in. I’ll stick with the leggings and tee!

Naturally, Monday evening rush hour traffic was at it’s worst but I made it to the meeting on time.

Since there is yet another new program that Weight Watchers rolled out, I gathered as much information about this Freestyle program that was offered.

This Freestyle is yet another change in Weight Watchers–and you can’t overload on the zero-point foods either!

There are a bunch of zero-point foods, but to counter act that, many foods went up in points. Points can be rolled over for the new “weekly total” (which is what I need because of the weekend aperitifs). And, I can still use my Smart Points.  All in all, it seems pretty decent.

Print this. It’s a great reference!  I highlighted some of my faves. But I’m thrilled that Fresh Dates and Figs are zero-point foods!

But the best is the new tracking journal. OMG!  I can write little notes, keep recipes all while tracking. I love this journal/tracker.  I figured it was worth the ten bucks since I don’t have to pay for meetings.

I’m all about that little black journal for tracking…

Recipes can also be written in the journal and I plan on doing that!!!

Yeah. I found my old Lifetime Member card and my 154 pounds is actually less than the goal WW gave me some years ago.  I ballooned up to 176 during my divorce and 155 was my goal.  Now that I’m looking to go back down to 140, I can do it for free!  Well, not for free because I’ll be buying better food.

That little orange Success Story is where my weekly numbers will be entered!

The other thing that I really liked was this was a very good meeting.  The group seems to be very tight with each other and with the leader. That’s a great sign.  I’ve been to meetings that were a bit on the dull and bland side where nobody participated and it doesn’t help in the weight loss journey.

People need to talk about what makes them tick when it’s all about the food.

Luckily—my clothing still fits.  Many of my clothes are tighter but one of the pushes to get me back on track was that I want to keep at my size 8!

So now that I’m back on track, I’m going to try to use Tuesday nights to write blog posts about the weight loss and hopefully share tips that I get!  If you are ready to lose a few pounds, chime in. We can do this together!!

Weight. Weight. Weight.  I was thinking about this song by The Band today. Did you ever see The Last Waltz?  Did you like The Band. I did–and check out how cute the younger Robby Robertson was!!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

  2. Debe says:

OMG you are so like me. I once took my jewelry and watch off! The nurse said nice try!

I look at food and feel it! Grrr however since I got sick this past December I have to remember to eat!

You look awesome! Keep up what you are doing and thank you for sharing your life with us.

    😉😉😉😉🤗🤗🤗👯👯

    • Catherine says:

LOL. Debe. I offer to get naked at the doctor’s office to get weighed but the nurses decline! I got a man-sized appetite too!! Thanks so much for your support!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  3. Leona says:

I love the new freestyle. Get the phone app, as honest to goodness, it’s so fun and easy. Plus you can scan food bar codes to get the sp values. I re-joined after maintaining goal for 23 years…and then the weight started creeping up. I’m two stubborn pounds from goal so I’ll be following along with your progress. You can do this. Also, there’s a private WW Facebook group that is wonderful with recipes and encouragement. Submit to join that.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Leona! This is great–I love hearing positivity about the Freestyle program. I’m also getting set up with the app. Oh…the group I started going to has a FB group and I joined!!!! It’s so much fun!!! Two pounds from goal. I’m pushing for you kiddo!! We can do this!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  4. Denise says:

Looking forward to your future Tuesday posts – I’ve been at Weight Watchers now 4 week’s, down 13 lbs, and really enjoying it. I think of the whole points thing and app as a game to see what I can cook and bake within my points limits. And I was inspired to try the two ingredient bagels I’d heard so much about after seeing your results. This is a fun dough to experiment with!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Denise! WOW–13 pounds in four weeks is incredible. I’m praying for a loss of a pound a week! After I finish the comments, I’m heading over to Excel to create a workbook of grocery items I need and links to recipes that I can fine. That “dough”–I’m going to try to flatten it out and make individual pizza’s–what’s your thoughts on that? The Freestyle is not a bad program at all–after “studying” it, it seems pretty pragmatic!!! Congrats on your loss girlfriend!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  5. Susan says:

I say the same thing about weigh in’s – I would weigh naked too – but then I would get arrested too!!! Do you have the app? There is a bar code reader on it that automatically calculates the points and shows you. Good luck – I know you will succeed!!!!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Susan.. My leader is setting me up with the app next week because I’m a total loser when it comes to my not-so-smart phone. I heard nothing but great things about that ap!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  6. Momcat says:

“I wore my lightest wig.” OMG you are hilarious!!! Thong panties!! That’s too funny but I remember three very real, very funny women that used to attend my meetings at WW years ago. They would rush into the bathroom before weigh in, remove all their jewelry, watches and they wore leggings and exercise bras to weigh in. One time one of the girls had gone up an ounce and said ” OMG I forgot to cut my toe nails.” Afterward they headed over to Tim Horton’s for ONE Timbit each and a coffee!! I met one of the ladies about a year later and she had lost thirty pounds (goal) her friends had also reached goal. She said they could not have done it without each other or their post weigh in visit to Timmy’s!!

    • Catherine says:

OMG. Momcat. That is a GREAT story!! It’s so much better with a buddy. Back years ago when I lived in NJ, I had the greatest WW buddy of all time–my girlfriend MaryBeth. I loved going to the meetings with her because we were so supportive of each other. She’s actually doing Freestyle now too–since January and loves it!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  7. Miss Bougie says:

Yes please, I’m all in for new recipes. I could lose a kilo or two….or three as well. I will try your bagel recipe. I have to see if I can get zero Greek yogurt here. I don’t think I’ve seen that at the stores. I might have to substitute for regular zero yogurt. Will be eagerly awaiting your Tuesday posts.

    • Catherine says:

Hey Miss B. Yeah. I have a “goal” now. My husband’s plan is Thanksgiving weekend in…………………………………………..Paris!! Christmas is my time when the family is together so if I can drop some poundage by then, I’ll be in good shape to eat my way through the City of Lights!!! XOXOXOXO

  8. Fiona says:

Good luck on your weight loss journey, you’ll soon be sylphlike….I have no doubt. I really need to lose that spare tyre around my midriff too. Never had that problem before the bloody menopause!

    • Catherine says:

LOL–Fiona. I don’t wanna be sylphlike. I just want my thighs to stop jiggling and mah belly to be less puffy!!! Damn, I never had that issue before the menopause either!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  9. I was a WW leader for 15 years and it was the best. There’s nothing like a great meeting that’s fun and motivating. I feel sorry for people who haven’t experienced that and get frustrated trying to go it alone. WW always makes the most sense too and there’s no crazy giving up food groups either. I had to give up my job because I just couldn’t keep up working full time and doing meetings on Saturday but it was the most rewarding job I’ve ever had and that says a lot given that I’m a mental health counselor! Your weigh in outfit is right on my friend! I had a member who came to my 7am meeting and changed into a bikini in our bathroom for weigh in. God bless her, she’d have to wait in a very long line of members to weigh in and she held her head high. No one judged everyone was wishing they had the bravery to do the same! That may be one of the things i liked most about the WW experience, we all came from different walks of life wanting to do the same thing – lose weight. I’m excited to read about your journey!!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Catherine says:

Hi Kellyann! Get out of town!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were a WW leader? OMG, you must have been so great and your meetings must have been very crowded! Yeah..a great leader makes a world of difference. There is a group FB group that I’ve already joined. It seems to be a very supportive group of people so that’s motivating. Thank you so much for your support!! I feel so good now! XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  10. Kathy W says:

Have you found the WW app? I love using my phone to scan all the food in the pantry and grocery store before eating or buying it. Down 17 lbs since Jan 2, and it’s easier than any of the previous WW plans. Yes, I’ve been on this weight loss journey before too. Good luck to you and keep on writing….you’re my favorite blogger.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Kathy! My leader is actually setting me up with the WW app next week. There are quite a few people in the group who are willing to share all the app nuances so I’m really excited about it. And I thank you for enjoying this little blog of mine. Your comment is very touching and makes me happy!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  11. Ilyse says:

I’m right there with you – just rejoined. And I have actually weighed my tee shirts and bras in an old Weightwatchers scale!

  12. Ilyse says:

  13. KB says:

Good for you! I put on about 3lbs over Christmas and it’s still sticking around. The cold weather is keeping me indoors and not motivated to get out and walk and ride. But, we have made a greater effort to eating avoid the bad stuff lately. The real kicker is my husband has lost several pounds, while my extra fat cells languish. Boo.

I must say I love the lighter color hair on you and that particular wig is fabulous…and your handwriting is beautiful. Now there is a lost art!

    • Catherine says:

Hi KB!!! Ugh. That’s why I’m glad I got a job! Being home during the winter means the only exercise I get is walking from the computer to the fridge! At least at work, there’s so much to do that I don’t even have time to think about food!!
About the handwriting. I attended Catholic School and the nuns were absolute sticklers about penmanship. We were graded on penmanship. Can you believe that???? XOXOXOXO!!!

  14. Great post. I’ve just started a weight loss regime and feel so much better for it. Good luck 😉!

  15. pollymacleod says:

Well done and good luck. Your new wig is absolutely gorgeous, you look ten years younger, I mean that, I don’t do false flattery, if I don’t mean it I don’t say it.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Polly!!!!! Thank you!!! That wig has received a ton of compliments and I thank you for being honest..it’s always the best policy. !!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  16. Good luck! I always wear a huge winter coat, thick jumper heavy jeans and boots for my first weigh in and then go for the skimpy leggings and t shirt the next week! Lol you get much better weight loss.

  17. Renee in Northern California says:

Yay, sounds like you’re back in the groove!!! I’ve been doing WW for a month now and have lost 6 pounds!! 4-5 pounds to go! I’m really, really liking this program!! Look forward to any tips, recipes that you’ve got!!

  18. Q.D says:

I used to do a sport with weight categories, and for competition you obviously wanted to be at the top of your category (because it was best to be the heaviest in your group than the lightest), I have watched athletes shed KILOS in 15 minutes! I was never that serious so I used to just compete wherever the scales put me and always ate breakfast.

  19. Siobhan says:

I’m with you on the weighing in outfit!! I do the same. By the way, I love you with lighter hair – its gorgeous on you.

  20. Lise says:

Hi Cathe, it seems like our weight distribution, etc changes with age. I am 5.6 feet and am currently 138 pounds. I was 151 last September and decided to lose some weight over winter (I know very different to the norm). I am 52 years of age and 20 years ago at 138 pounds I was slimmer than I am now. I am still carrying a flabby tummy so it seems I have to keep going and lose a bit more. Have you noticed anything like this for yourself? I know menopause can make a difference but I haven’t got there yet. Lise

  21. 54 Pounds says:

I’m so excited to follow your journey! I am mega-outta shape and working to get back to my healthy body. Right now, I weigh 54lbs more than not-just-ideal-but-healthy-me weighs. It’s time to get my butt in gear! 🙂
