Well, The Freestyle Program Works—BUT….

And there’s a huge “but” that’ll I’ll tell you about in a minute.  First, I want to let you know how my first weigh-in went.

Naturally, I did cheat a bit on the Easter Weekend.  My cheating came in the form of two Kir Royals each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  I’m tracking those drinks as extra weekly points—but I may have had one more on Saturday.  That’s fine.

Im chugging!

I also had a gougere.  It was too difficult to pass one up since it was the weekend.

But overall, I did well.  On the way to the meeting last night I still had my doubts though. I literally prayed the entire drive to the meeting “Please God, just let me lose one pound—even a half a pound.  I swear if I lose a pound I won’t curse for at least three hours”

That’s right. I took time out to pray before I entered the meeting.  Why did I pick MONDAY to go WW??????  Monday is the heaviest day of the week–it follows the weekend!

When I stepped on the scale I received a smile. I lost two pounds.

Two pounds down.  If I can keep the one-two loss a week, I’ll be incredibly happy!!!

Can I just tell you that I was honestly thrilled?  This Weight Watchers Freestyle is a challenge due to the large amount of freedom one has—but still, it can be done.

And for a fleeting moment I had to laugh.  Thirty years ago, after Roman was born, I got my weight down to an all-time low of 117.  It was due to breastfeeding and being a stay-at-home mom of two children at the time. I was always on the go.

But now, at 5 feet 6 inches and my 63rd birthday in 13 days, I’ll be delighted to get back to 140 pounds.  My frame is large.  And as I age, my pro-aging mind doesn’t want me to become too skinny.

And that’s that!

So, here’s where that “but” comes in.

Everyone is talking about how great the Weight Watchers App is. OK?  Now—I’ve had this app three times during three different phases of my Weight Watchers life.  I’ve also had three different log ins.  So—I go to log into the app that I downloaded.  I get a message that I have three different usernames.

This was my welcome back to APP!  I was not a happy camper!

None of them worked.  I tried them all with every password known to man that I’ve ever used.  One of the members in the group suggested I get in touch with Weight Watchers Corporate.

So, I did—I explained my issue and received an email from a customer service person named Neil. Neil asks me for quite a bit of information, as you can see below.

Despite the LARGE amount of information I gave Neil, including my LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP ID didn’t help!

I gave Neil the information he requested.  This morning I get an email from Ebony, another customer service person at Weight Watchers.  Apparently, I don’t exist.  Over the years I’ve gifted Weight Watchers with wide hips, an overabundant gut and a fat ass.   Not to mention quite a bit of money.  But—I did gain the elusive Lifetime Membership.  Now—I was told that because I’m a lifetime member, I would have no issue getting the app.

I’m a non-existent member–even with LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP!!

Below, I’ve posted my reply.

And so, I’m being true to my word and venting in this blog post! I’m NOT rejoining.  What a money-grubbing organization!

Weight Watchers wants more money from me.   Lifetime membership is a joke.  I paid both money and sweat for that membership and WW wants more money from me as suggested I rejoin the program.  The APP isn’t worth it.

Granted, I’m very happy that as a lifetime member, as long as I keep within two pounds of my last goal, I don’t have to pay.  For me, that’s incentive enough.  I’m not paying a cent right now.

This card, doesn’t mean all that much. I paid my twelve bucks last week because I was within ONE pound of my goal. I swear I’ll keep losing just so I won’t have to pay!

However, Weight Watchers as a corporation only wants the money.  For a true benefit, lifetime members should have access to the APP without having to pay for it.

Anyway, I found an app that works just as well. I can track on my phone.  The app is iTrackBites and I’m still finding my way around it, but it will suffice just fine.

iTrackBites is in tune with the Smart Points WW program. I’ll take it.  And I can incorporate this into my Freestyle. I’m playing with this APP and I didn’t pay a cent. Thank you iTrackBites!

It’s so weird—because the weight program does work—but man, the Corporate WW really needs to stop being so greedy!

I’ll tell you though—I’m so happy to be at work instead of home.  Hunger struck me badly today at 3:10—had I been home the fridge would have been my friend.  Instead, I took out my tracking journal and wrote my thoughts.  Here they are!

Yes. I did write that at 3:10 this afternoon and yes, that is exactly how I felt!

And when I finally left work, the rain was coming down pretty heavily.  That meant one thing. Traffic was a mess—and it was. It took me over an hour to get home.   Dinner was a very quick 2-egg omelette stuffed with mushrooms that I cooked in seasoned water over the weekend and two ounces of soft Chevre cheese.  On the side I had baby arugula topped with red peppers that I also roasted over the weekend.  No dressing—I like my greens dry!  This was accompanied by a 2-ingredient, 3-point bagel that I made.  The meal was simple as satisfying.  I’m not hungry anymore!

Simple omelette.  2 eggs+ 0 points. Filled with mushroom7s and 2 oz. soft goat cheese.  Greens on the side and a 3-point WW bagel that I made.  7 points of goodness!

Chippy is giving me the side-eye because he can’t lap up any more crumbs for a while!

Have a great evening.  Let me know if you think I’m overreacting to this App debacle!!!

Bonaparte doesn’t want me to lose my hips or my bum.  I’ll play this for him!!!  One of my favorite Queen songs because they celebrate the gifted women!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

  1. Guess what? You can be any way you want to be. You don’t want to pay? Don’t pay. You’re at that stage in life where you can do what you want. Very impressed with your 2 pounds! Good for you.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Sandy!!! Thank you!! It’s so true. I’m at that stage where I can do and say anything–wait–I’ve always done that. Yeah. I’m thrilled with the two pounds. Another five weeks could be up to ten pounds so it’s really a fun way to look at it. BTW. That White Shadows print of yours is gorgeous! What medium did you use? Looking at those flowers reminded me of the white Roses we used to get for her when we stayed at her apt. in Paris. It brought back lovely memories. Thank you! XOXOXOXO

  2. Christine D says:

Hey girl………great job on weight loss! Good for u for posting this…….they should have honored the lifetime membership or at least notified you that you were kicked to curb. I agree that as we age we need to keep a little more weight on……..have u heard the saying that sooner or later one has to choose between face and butt………need a little more fat to smooth out wrinkles on face and we all want little less fat on our butts. You look great!
And as long as you feel good who cares??
So how much has B lost? Whenever I cut back calories, my husband loses weight! That’s after I give him the bigger portion always….dam!
PS……I think it’s ok to cheat on weekend…….maybe change weigh in day.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Christine. Dayum–you know what? B is piggybacking on my diet and I can’t stand it because with men–fr some reason, they lose weight quicker than we do. I want to make him a pound cake and force feed him just like a duck or goose being prepared for a fat liver! LOL–and I choose the fatter face than the butt!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

      • Christine D says:

That’s right…….slip him some cream, cheese, butter etc
My husband is down 2 pant sizes because I’m eating better.
Weight lifting is the only thing I know to boost metabolism……….it really adds muscle that burns calories. Aging is so rude……better than the alternative I guess.

  3. Debe says:

Ya forgot to give them the blood test and urine sample!!! These days when you call to get assistance mother’s maiden name, last meal eaten, when is the sun setting?

That sucks you have proof …so weird.

    But you are looking Good!

    😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

    • Catherine says:

Hi Debe. Right???? What other proof do these clowns need anyway? I’m really ticked off but I found another App. Thanks. I wore pants today that got way too tight to wear so I’m thrilled!!!!XOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  4. Momcat says:

So you have to rejoin to get the app? That’s weird because you are already a member by virtue of the lifetime membership ie you don’t have to pay therefore if you are a lifer you should get access to the app…sounds like they are trying to NOT have people become life time members. So unfair there are folks who have lost loads of weight and worked very hard to get to the elusive goal, this is a slap in the face. WW has gone down in my estimation.
Congrats on the two pound weight loss, app or no app you’ll get there!

    • Catherine says:

Hey Momcat. I know–why bother to have lifetime membership. What sucks is that the leader of the group I go to is FANTASTIC!!! She’s a hoot and the group itself is also just as great. Because of the people, I refuse to quit over the fact they want mo’ money. I’ll just use the dupe app that I uploaded. Thanks for the congrats!!! XOXOXOXO

  5. Yvonne says:

You look great and have the best legs. Well done losing two pounds. Fat Bottomed Girls was the song of husband’s 21st eons ago and also sung loudly and in tune by all the kids (both sexes) at Sebastian’s 21st Good Friday. Queen never goes out of style.?

    • Catherine says:

Yvonne. Freddie Mercury. I can’t even with that guy–I adored him!!FBG is an iconic song and boy, I wish Mercury hadn’t gotten sick and died!! Queen never goes out of style!!! XOXOXOXOXO

  6. Toni Soucie says:

I am on WW also and faced the same issue as you. I’m a Lifetime member and also had to rejoin. I was not happy about it but rejoined given the fact that I need to get the holiday and recent cruise weight off. I am going to check out the iTracks app. Good job on the two pound loss in your first week.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Toni! My saving grace was that when I rejoined I was just one pound away from the two pounds within a goal. I paid when I rejoined but now I’m on the free ride. Still, to ask me to rejoin with $$$$ for an App is utterly ridiculous. I’m glad you’re going to check out the iTracks App and I”m glad you are on WW–we can do this together!! XOXOXOXO

  7. Amelia says:

Two pounds weight loss is wonderful. Great job! I don’t see it as overreacting. “Inquiring mind wants to know.” Makes one wonder how many years does WW consider a lifetime…10 years? Good idea to bring up the issue at your next WW meeting. Someone there will know the answer or have had the same experience. Love Queen and Freddie Mercury. XO Amelia

    • Catherine says:

Hi Amelia. Oh..I’m definitely bringing it up at the next meeting. Lifetime should be lifetime. Period. And charging the full price for rejoining just to get the App is not a fair business practice!!! XXOXOXOXO!!!!

  8. That’s infuriating. How dare they call it life time membership then not allow you to access the app? Ridiculous! I must say I’ve always loved my WW classes and the staff there, but have always found the customer support team to be terrible. It looks like they couldn’t give a stuff about your problem in those emails!

  9. Fiona says:

What a rip-off. Get what you can from WW then give them the finger. Seriously, 2lbs is great, especially over Easter, I have no doubt that you’ll get there. Do Slimming World operate in US? If so maybe give them a try if needed in future. Meanwhile, I’ve done nothing about my girth and I’m fostering a cat who’s dieting because he was 9.5 kilos when he came into care! Love FBG! Xx

    • Catherine says:

Hi Fiona! I’ve never heard of Slimming World–my guess is that it isn’t available in the States. The thing is that I’ve had success with WW–its the customer service that needs a new program!!!!! XXOXOXOXO!!!!

  10. Curse the app but you’re doing great – keep it up! There are so may apps out there that are free! I always preferred writing things down with pen and paper – old school. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Catherine says:

Hi Kellyann! Oh..I’m still tracking everything in my journal. You Bite it–You Write it!! I’m also using the iTrackApp because it keeps me going during those moments of pure frustration!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  11. The Lakewoman says:

Cathe……pile of seasoned shit = -2points! Happy Hump Day

  12. Bridget says:

I blame Oprah. Having said that, I should clarify because I blame her for everything. But still.

  13. Leona says:

I think you misunderstood “Lifetime Membership”. This is taken directly from the WW website:

    <> …and it continues on.

From my understanding, you didn’t weigh in monthly for the past few years and be within two pounds of your weight. I’m not trying to be difficult here as I experienced the same thing and it took me a while to figure it out. I had to re-join but once I got back within 2 lb. of goal my lifetime was re-instated and I get vouchers for free access to the app. If I go over two pounds, I don’t get the voucher and have to pay. The trick is to always weigh in monthly to keep it active. I too thought that after attaining Lifetime everything was free after. It’s not unless you weigh in monthly and are within 2lb.

I don’t understand that they can’t find you in the system but that’s another matter.

That being said, may WW members use the iTrackBites and quite like it so good for you in finding it.

Congratulations on the loss! If you follow the plan and track, it works. Keep up the good work!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Leona I mentioned that caveat in the post. I did pay the $12 weekly fee the first week even though I was a pound under goal and not two pounds. Moving forward, I’m not paying. It’s all about the app for me–I gave them a ton of information and my lifetime ID and the lame excuse was that they “couldn’t find me” That’s BS–it’s all about the money. But–I’m loving the program and the meetings. I found another app!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  14. Leona says:

Sorry…the cut and paste from the WW website was deleted. Google WW Lifetime Membership and it’s all set out there.

  15. 54 Pounds says:

I’m not going to lie – your 3:10 thoughts are what have been running through my head all day. If you can do it, I can do it. I will only eat at my scheduled meal times, I will only eat good food, I can do this.

    … I think.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Rachel. LOL. That 3:10 thought was real!!! I took advantage of the 4 for a dollar artichokes at Wegmans today and had a steamed one for dessert. Zero points of pure heavenly bliss–and I didnt’ even add salt to it! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!
