You’ll Never Guess What Bonaparte Gave Me For My Birthday!!

Oh..I’ll get to that in a minute.

But yesterday was a very uneventful day—and I’m not saying that in a bad way.  I was at work.  And when I think of it, being at work on my birthday was a great thing because after being unemployed for six months was no picnic!  The stress of not having medical benefits or putting money into my 401K was wearing on me.

LOL!  That’s me when I get home!!  But I’m very happy at work!

Quite honestly, I am fortunate to have a job to go to.  I swear I amso busy I don’t even have time to pass gas!

And last night was quiet.  Since we had a grand dinner at Spring Mill Café on Saturday, and on Sunday I had my fill of Kir Royals, it was wonderful to get back to eating healthy and more in tune with my weight loss.

Our favorite restaurant –it really is “our” place!

So—let me tell you about what The Frenchman gave me.

I was sitting at my makeup table getting ready for work and he tiptoed in with a “’Eppy Birs-day Cassee!”

I’ll tell you that Frenchman o’mine even has great taste in cards!!!

I turned around and he was carrying a couple of boxes!

It was very surprising to me because believe it or not, I’m pretty low-key about birthday gifts.  I don’t want anything. Our dinner was fine for me.

Anyway, I opened the first box.  And….

He got me hair!!!  I got a new wig!!!

Bonaparte got me hair!!!  He ordered a wig for me!  And the best part is that he actually ordered a fantastic style wig.

So pretty and shiny and new and a beautiful color!

The wig, Chloe from Envy wigs is really a gorgeous, longer bob.  The wig has very subtle and loose waves making it look incredibly natural.  He actually picked a wig that I never noticed before!

Here’s the stock photo and now that I think about it…

Why did I pass this beauty by?  My husband has great hair taste!

The color, Chocolate Cherry, is very unusual.  It’s a dark brown base with quite bit of auburn/burgundy/red highlights.  The color brought me back to the days when I dyed my own hair auburn.  I love the wig.

A box of Chocolate Cherry hair has Zero WW Points a box of Chocolate Cherries is OFF the points charts!

The Frenchman loves the style but isn’t crazy about the color. I digress though.  It’s fine. I took the shine out of it and dirtied it up a bit with dry shampoo.

I took this photo when I was rushing out to work.  Trust me, Chloe looks tons better!  I’ll be reviewing on my YouTube channel over the weekend so you can get a better look!

Everyone at work loved my new hair!!  And they were even more impressed when I told them my husband gave the wig to me for my birthday!

Now for the other gift!  Remember about a month or so ago I wrote about the military jacket that Gap had in their offerings  ( THE BLOG POST )and it was impossible for me to find it?  Well, the husband came through!

I almost passed out when I opened it.  The jacket is gorgeous. The detailing is wonderful and I felt like a French soldier when I put it on.  It’s very Napoleonic. I’m going to bring it to Paris with me in November!

Just look at that detailing!  This jacket is so beautiful!

And that’s what I wore yesterday to work.  My new military jacket and my new hair!

This military look was so great!  I felt like Napoleon’s little sister!

My stepdaughter and step granddaughter gave me a gift certificate to…where else but J. Crew!

I can’t wait to use this!!!

In three weeks I leave to spend a weekend in Cincinnati with Oona and her boyfriend, Sam.  It’s Oona’s birthday gift to me.

Cincy is actually a very cool and hip little city!  I’m looking forward to my visit!!

And at the end of the day, it was a pleasure to receive birthday greetings and conversation with my two boys.

And I want to thank everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes!!  You guys rock so much—thank you!!

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

I’m currently working on another rant about mascara—mascara is becoming one of my biggest annoyances!!! Stay tuned for this one!!

I leave you with one of my favorite songs by War–I can rock to this in my military jacket!!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Well I’ve already said happy birthday and told you how smashing you look in that wig and jacket, but I neglected to say how wonderful that card is! I noticed it yesterday. Reminds me of fashion drawings from the 60s. Again, I’ll say the Frenchman has good taste!

Lori!! That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the card! I LOVED those 60’s illustrations for fashion. I am bringing it to hang in my cube at work because the illustration is so great!!! XXOXOXO!!!!

Belated greetings from Capitola, ca. Loved your post today. What a guy! He can coast on this for a long while. You will keep that jacket forever (even if you don’t wear it!!

  11. Anne says:

I just discovered the Maybeline mascara that is in the bright pink wand. I have never had a mascara that got so thick and long like this one does. Felt like I had put on false eyelashes. . If you have not tried it Catherine, I think you should give it a whirl! It’s great!

Also, I love your husband’s choice of wig! 🙂👍 I spend some time yesterday looking at wigs, but did not find what I was looking for. I really don’t think I could wear a wig, because my Fibromyalgia either has me freezing or sweating like a pig, and the sweating is mostly in my face and hair. Afraid it would be worse with the addition of a wig. However, my 5 year old granddaughter is quite dramatic and into princesses, etc. and we were talking on FaceTime together last week about hair color and wigs. I have brown hair and she has blond hair. She said she would not like to have ugly brown hair! Anyway, we had a wig and hair color discussion, and it got me to thinking it would be fun to try a style I never could wear with my own wavy, fine hair.

So, what is the brand of the wig Bonaparte bought you? Might try that one out! Thanks!

    Anne

    • Catherine says:

Hi Anne! You are talking about Maybelline Great Lash mascara. It is the best selling mascara of all time. Alas, it did not make my lashes great!! I think that story about you and your granddaughter is so funny–outta the mouths of babes!!
The wig is Chloe by Envy Wigs. I wore it today as well and I’ll tell you, it is a very, very nice wig!!!! Very natural!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

      • Anne says:

Catherine, the mascara I was talking about is Maybeline’s Lash Blast, not the Great Lash one. The whole tube is bright pink. I love how long and thick it makes my lashes and in just a few flicks of the wand. I have never had lashes that look like this before. Wowza!

      • Catherine says:

Ohhhhhhhhhh…That puts a spin on it. I’m actually working on my mascara post right now. I’m hoping to have it up later. I’m gonna look for the lash blast!!!!

  12. Christine says:

Happy Birthday! It looks like you had a fabulous birthday!

  13. Miss Bougie says:

Yes to the wig! Very very becoming. Bien choisie, Bonaparte!
Am looking forward to reports about Cincinnati. That’s a town that would not be included in a trip to the US, so would love to hear about it.

    • Catherine says:

Hi MB! Oh yes–I shall be reporting on the trip–Cincinnati is really a very nice little city. I’m looking forward to the return!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  14. Donna Jackson says:

    Happy Birthday 🎂🎁🛍🎉

  15. Wow, what an awesome birthday! I love the new wig – it is so pretty on you, but then again they all are! It’s super impressive that your darling husband picked it out – very well done. Glad you got that jacket too, it is awesome and you’ll wear the heck out of it forever because it’s a classic. Birthdays are so much fun, it’s nice to feel so cared for and the gifts you got definitely convey how special you are!!!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Catherine says:

Hi Kellyann! Thank you! Yes–my husband has really great taste–it must be the Parisian in him–LOL!! But that jacket–I love it even more because he remembered how I tried to get my hands on it and couldn’t!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  16. Fiona says:

What lovely thoughtful gifts from Bonaparte…that man listens! Beautiful card too. Both the wig and jacket look fabulous on you…I’m really digging the jacket with the all the braid detailing. Super!
Blimey, what a blast from the past…Xxx

    • Catherine says:

Oh. Fiona. The jacket. It’s such a cross between Napoleon and Adam Ant. It’s so awesome!!! Yes..my husband listens to everything I say–even all the bad stuff!!! XOXXOXOXOXO!!!!

  17. vavashagwell says:

    So wonderful!

  18. junedesilva says:

Joyeux Anniversaire! What brilliant presents and I love the new wig, colour and all.

  19. Carolyn says:

What fabulous gifts from a husband who obviously dotes on you! Catherine, I found this singer on youtube after James Comey quoted her in his book. I immediately thought of you and your fight against ageism. I also have an idea for a column: describing the process of getting your face waxed, step by step, for all of us who are considering this to combat all these rogue hairs that sprout everywhere on our previously smooth countenances. In my thirties, after getting my first magnifying makeup mirror, I was amazed at all the fuzz on my face. Now the fuzz is turning into a beard! LOL. Waxing may be the way to go, but I, and I am sure others followers of Atypical 60 would be interested in the process. I remember you wrote a spa article previously that was very interesting. xxoo Carolyn (aka Vadalia)
