My Gain Was a Loss This Week.

So, remember when I weighed myself on Friday I was between 145 and 146 pounds on my bathroom scale.

Friday. The leanest day of the week!

And then over the weekend I drank 2 Kir Royals on Friday and two on Saturday and two on Sunday.  I also drank some good red wine with dinner on Saturday evening.

And no more than two!!

Friday dinners for me are usually very light. I had sushi.

Although my servings of sushi consist of eight pieces slathered in wasabi and ginger, I could eat a tray full such as this!!

Saturday was a bit different.  Escargot.  And yes, I did have a small slice of baguette to dip into the butter.  Steak—I made Béarnaise sauce for my husband and did have a small taste of it. I also had wilted spinach and mushrooms.

I couldn’t find a pic of MY steak and Bearnaise  but this is from the Weight Watchers site. Maybe that Bernaise wasn’t as off-diet as I thought!!!

No dessert.

Sunday evening, we had Roast Chicken and salad.

Sunday night’s roast chicken was from the new Kimberton Whole Foods in Collegeville. It was as delicious as the roast chickens we get when we are in France!  Smaller, organic and no hormones!!

Not a bad food weekend, but certainly not the greatest.

I tried to convince myself that I was coasting by on the less-restricted Weight Watchers FreeStyle program.

And therein lies the issue—but I’ll return to that in a moment.

I hemmed and hawed about going to the meeting last night.  In fact, I wore a lightweight shift dress to work and didn’t even bother to bring my weigh-in clothes because I still wasn’t sure if I would actually go to the meeting.  Then I realized that if I didn’t go, I would only be hurting myself because I refuse to give up.

True dat!  I wore a light Lilly Pulitzer shift dress AND a heavier wig than Isla. I wore Jamison!

So off to the meeting I drove and when I weighed in, I lost 1.4 pounds.  I’m down to 148.8 pounds.  And after that little weight gain the previous meeting had gifted me with, I was feeling pretty good. Not great, but good.

Can’t complain about this week’s loss. But with FreeStyle it’s much, much slower because of the freedom!

Our regular meeting leader was away and we had a substitute leader who was really motivating.  We were all discussing our issues and our wins and our goals.  And I mentioned that the FreeStyle program simply wasn’t working that well for me.

One thing I found from the leader was that the leaders at the WW meetings are not permitted to discuss older programs—only the current one.  This bugs the shit outta me because there needs to be an addressed compromise for those who prefer going back to the Points Plus or Smart Points program.

Weight Watchers wants your money but not your voice!

It’s like this—some kids need discipline.  I think that’s why my parents enrolled us in Catholic school—so that we would be disciplined all day and not just at home.

Sr. Mary Isabel. Principal of St. Patrick’s.  She may be smiling here–but I was scared $hitless of this woman.  She should have been a Weight Watchers leader!

I need a Catholic School approach to weight loss and I’m going back to the old Points Plus way of looking at this weight loss journey.  I need more structure and discipline.

Thank God for the internet!  I was able to calculate the points that my extremey lazy ass needs to lose ten pounds! Um..as you can see the internet even picked out wigs for me!  So sad that the one who knows me best is a machine.

The old Points Plus book came out and that’s what I’ve switched to.  But the great thing is that I can still track and I can enjoy the meetings more without stress.

See!  It pays to save stuff!

And this last 8 ½ pounds is going to be hard to lose but I’ll do it.  I’m remotivated.

The pants I wore today were loose on me and when I purchased them they were a bit tight.  The better fit of my clothing is what’s making me very happy.

These pants are getting looser. And I’m happy about it!

On another note, I’m mulling over what to pack for my weekend trip to Cincinnati to visit Oona.  I’ll be meeting her boyfriend Sam’s mother and I’m looking forward to that!  I have a feeling we will get along very well!

I’m telling you, it is easier to pack for a three-week vacation than a weekend trip.  I’ll be dressed down at work on Friday and since I’m taking a half-day, I’ll push it to me more casual.  But-I don’t like to travel like a slob.  I’ll wear jeans, a white tee and a navy blazer—hmmmm, sound familiar?

Oh Gee!  Now THERE’S a change up in my wardrobe!  I swear it pays to be basic because you have twenty of the same outfit!!

And speaking of white tees, I ended up purchasing one at Target last night after the meeting.  Target’s clothing doesn’t bring me much luck but I was drawn to this deep V neck and actually purchased it in a size up.  That looser fit is starting to appeal to me but I don’t want to drown in the shirt either. This had a nice fit. I purchased a Large and it ended up to be perfectly loose in the best way.

I like this wide V-cut tee.  At eight dollars it wasn’t a bad deal..

And it looked good under a black (ohhhh–no navy today!) Schoolboy blazer!

t pays to have a collection of different sizes and a variety of styles because one day you may feel a bit Boho and the next more classic!  And they all work!

I also received some cosmetic mail today!  A few posts back I mentioned and actually posted a YouTube video of makeup guru Aly Art.  She’s one of my faves.  Anyway, she was raving about the MAC concealers.  MAC is one of those brands that I find myself more and more drawn to.  The eyeshadows are terrific and I’m in love with the cream contour and the cream blush I purchased.  Why not try the concealer?

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer–we’ll see about this!

Here’s what it looks like.

Right out of the box, I loved this because the bottle is GLASS…

And has a pump dispenser!

The NC15 Shade was the one I chose.  It has a touch of yellow and I find yellow-based concealers work well with my fair skin..

Here’s a little pumpful out of the bottle!

We’ll see how it ends up. It wasn’t super-expensive but wasn’t drug-store priced either.  I paid $21 for it. And there will be a review!   Check it out on my amazon list page!  Atypical60 Amazon

So that’s about it for today.  For those who are doing WW at the moment—what are your thoughts on the FreeStyle?  Do you enjoy the freedom or do you feel you need more structure?   I’m going upstairs now to make myself stressed about packing for the weekend.  I feel Anxiety Girl kicking in…..

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Like you I weigh 148 but want to weigh 140. I swear I just have the hardest time with weight watchers .

    • Catherine says:

Hi Michele. We’re in the same boat! This last leg is just so difficult. But the thing about WW is that they keep changing programs. Some work and some don’t. The company needs to be more consistent. I’m now going with the 20 to 21 points a day! Hopefully I’ll drop the el bees sooner than later!!! XOXOXOXO

  2. Momcat says:

Anxiety Girl!! That’s a good one. I don’t do Weight Watchers currently, I did it on line before I got sick last year and I dropped a few pounds. A friend and I sort of created our own meetings in the hall at work. “lose anything?” “Don’t ask.” Very formal. Wonderfully supportive. Anyway two colleagues were complaining the other day that they thought WW was too lax now. One said that a few years back she had lost about twenty pounds and in the same time frame she had only lost seven pounds with the new WW. You must be onto something! Do they just want people to stay’on program’ longer? Good luck!

    • Catherine says:

Momcat. Your colleague hit the nail right on the head about the timeframe and loss. A few years back I would have dropped over 10 pounds in the six weeks I’ve been doing this. I’ve lost a total of six pounds. I know it isn’t bad but it could have been a bit more of a loss with a different program. FOr me, the points are where it’s at.
I think WW has the monetary need to bring people back–watch–in a year or so they’ll have a new program because FreeStyle won’t work for the vast majority! Thanks for the luck!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  3. Hey….good for u on weight loss and sticking with it.
My standard pack is: 1 black pants, one good jeans, one sweater, 2 t-shirts that go with sweater, one jacket, black walking shoes, 2 scarves that go with other items.
I take a silk nightgown that can wash and dry easily.
Then it’s the makeup and accessories you need another suitcase for!!!!?
    Hope u have fun!!
    Chris d

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Chris!! Yeah. I packed black pixie pants and a few tee’s. I’ll have my casual friday clothing on because I’m taking a half day from work. I’ll wear jeans, a white tee and a navy blazer. It’s the makeup that’ll be the heaviest!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  4. TURNER says:

Isn’t it just the best little lift when you pull your pants on and they feel a bit looser! Be sure you don’t shrink your perfect new tee in the dryer. I have a big problem with that.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Turner. Oh. I NEVER put tees in the dryer. I’m very much a air-dryer. I have two drying racks and hang stuff in the bathrooms. I’m obsessive LOL!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  5. Juliet says:

Oh WW, yeah freestyle – hmmmmmm on one hand I think it is great there is that much freedom (a bit like the real world) but the reality is for me, not as successful as other plans. I have more to lose than you and have been bobbing about 12 stone for ages. Yes I KNOW that is down to me (gravelguy took me for an early birthday dinner to a tapas place – I chose pretty good options I think but he ordered more calorific stuff, which is fine as he was paying but the thing about tapas is you try everything isnt it 🙂 ), but the freedom means I am NOT as mindful, ok, chicken breast is low on calories – but I still keep nibbling, surely even low calorie food has repercussions. It is the lack of accountability like you say and dont even ask me about the phone version and trying to log food in that – I tried typing in breakfast cookie and got “full english breakfast” I got “blackberry peach smoothie” I got “eggs benedict” I got…. pffffffffft

    • Catherine says:

Hi Juliet. That’s the thing–chicken breasts are a zero point food. No. Not in my book because I’ll eat too much then it’ll be OVER whatever points it should have been on the old program! Hey. I love the full english and full irish breakfasts! They keep me full all day!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  6. Congrats to you on the weight loss, I always loved when that happened in the meetings I worked. It’s the best reason to go because it is all about YOU for that 30 minutes. What I have to say is this in regards to the old plans – we all had success on one plan or another. I lost my weight 18 years ago on one of the first points plans but since then everything has changed. Do what works for you and makes sense – the meeting are motivating regardless of what you’re doing and hopefully you find something you can live with. It’s not a diet it’s a lifestyle. Of course you’ll lose those 8 pounds and the best news is you’ll still live and enjoy your life while doing it!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Kellyann! You are the pragmatic voice of reason!!! It is a lifestyle and those meetings are the most important aspect for me!! Thank you!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  7. Fiona says:

Yikes I went shopping yesterday, the sight of my body in the changing room mirror was not a pretty sight! I’m not overweight 134lbs 5’5″ but all that wobbly flesh….yuk, think I need to do some exercise. Well done you on the weight loss…it’s not easy.
Btw I’m off to Le Pays de la Loire.

    • Catherine says:

Fiona! You are not overweight at all! But I have the same jiggles and wobbles. I’m like pudding but at this point it doesn’t bother me!! LOL!!
Have a great time in France!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!
