The New EU Privacy Rules…

The General Data Protection Regulation

I basically have no idea other than this new compliance protects the privacy of Europeans.  That’s a good thing but I have to tell you that I keep no personal information on anyone who reads this blog.

I don’t give out private information.  To anyone!

What bothers me is the fact I may lose some wonderful friends I’ve made through this blog.  My EU readers who laugh and cry and bond with me.  We bond with each other.

I’m perplexed.  Perhaps I should have a drink!

What do I do about this?  I don’t know.

I don’t know because I write this blog for fun and entertainment and laughs and rants.

I’m a girl who just wants to make you happy!

My guess is that if you are from the EU and read this blog, it won’t be emailed to you anymore unless you re-subscribe.  I don’t want to lose anyone because then it’ll be a sad day for me.

I don’t want to be sad.  I never started blogging to focus on sadness–only happiness!

Quite honestly, it sucks if you are an average blogger who doesn’t have your blog as your means of business.  But–it is what it is and we are in an ever-changing world.

All I can say is you are all safe with me.  And I guess resubscribe.

Remember–You are safe with me!

I gotta go and check out my UK and European blogs and see if I need to resubscribe to them!!

Thanks for being with me!!

Keep on the Sunny Side!  That’s what I’m trying to do through all this privacy stuff!!  Enjoy this sweet American Roots Music song from The Carter Family!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

I suspect you’re fine – they are after the big fish you spam and scam, we’ve had this all over our workplace and very little changes – basically people have opted in to read you and you don share any personal details – if people comment then they do by choice. So no worries I suspect, also how and who would be able to sue you as you’re not based in Europe. America is pretty tigerish about protecting its citizens 🙂 but seriously I don’t think you need to worry

Sorry full of types – big fish who spam and scam – on the phone while away with daughter

      • Catherine says:

Hi Juliet! Thanks for info. I’m feeling much better about this. One correction though. America would be tigerish if we changed our gun laws–then we’d be protected!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!

You won’t lose me as I don’t subscribe to blogs by email….I just bookmark my favourites. Haven’t seen anything on any blogs about it so hopefully you’ll be ok.
    (Probably really old skool?)

    • Fiona says:

‘Really old skool’ should have been after ‘bookmark my favourites’ have no idea why it jumped down there!

      • Catherine says:

Hi Fiona! Yeah. I’m starting to realize that I’m not affected. I was having a moment of self-importance there! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

No, absolutely don’t worry. First of all, you are writing using a WordPress.com platform so they probably have a blanket umbrella Privacy Policy that you come under – so I think you don’t need to do anything about a Privacy Policy – but I’m not 100% sure about that. I’m just about to post mine up on a separate page (done by UK afternoon time) and I suggest you read it to see what I say (not expecting more than 1% will actually read every word!)

Also and this is most important, your emails to us (your followers) come through WordPress.com, and this is the key thing WE SIGNED UP TO FOLLOW YOU. Therefore we have OPTED-IN, therefore you DON’T NEED TO DO ANYTHING. AND WE CONTINUE TO RECEIVE YOUR BLOGS – WOO HOO!!!! HOWEVER, all the bloggers and of course absolutely all the companies who use a Mailchimp email list (and any other email list) must show that these people on the list are really really opting in. Because of course, some have bought email lists or got people or through that little teeny, tiny box which sometimes you tick and sometimes you don’t. And that has led to this snowstorm of emails from corporations and other organisations that have these email lists asking you to etc etc.

However, I’m a self-hosted WordPress blog,(a wordpress.org) therefore I DO collect and store data (email addresses of followers) and I do NOT come under any umbrella Privacy Policy, I’ve had to write one myself, albeit with a template. That has led to tons of work trying to understand what the 3rd-party orgs do with my list of followers. WordPress.com sends my blog out (using follower’s data) and Jetpack doers my stats (using follower’s data) so that was a bit mind-blowing trying to understand that. It’s a wake-up call and timely as banks and corporations have been very lax with our data. But the regulation has caught many tiny teeny societies like gardeners with 14 people on their email list – they all come under the GDPR. But rest assured your blog will go out to all of us in Europe. Hope this helps xxxxxxxxxxxx

My Privacy Policy is up and running now, Cath, link here

My Other Half thinks that the latest update to WordPress infers that absolutely everyone comes under the regs (because you have EU followers) so at the very least, if you haven’t already, you might go down the road of having a Privacy Policy. Honestly don’t totally know. All these corporations will have whole back offices on this. And us? It’s just us!!!!!!

Like Fiona, I’m in the UK and don’t subscribe, just bookmark. Don’t worry, wouldn’t miss your blog for anything. Currently in South of France and tomorrow we’re visiting Theoule for the first time. So looking forward to it.

    • Catherine says:

Susan! You HAVE to tell me how you like Theoule! Have a blast in the South of France!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

Just loved it. Small, pretty, clean, quiet – oh I could go on. Had a wonderful lunch in Les Roches Rose. 12.80 euros for three courses. Unfortunately we realised that to take an apartment we would need to hire a car and we don’t do that anymore. However, we are going back again next week. Hubbie’s birthday on the 3rd so going to Gaston Gastonette then. Since you wrote about it we’ve been every year since. Thank you so much.
I can see why you love Theoule so much and eventhough you aren’t going this year you are so lucky to be able to stay there.
