Healing From The Election

I want to make one thing clear before I go any further with today’s post.  We have a great group of friends in this little blog community of “Atypical60”.  We all don’t agree on everything either. And even though we don’t, we always manage to make our little group respectful and kind.  I know that not everyone here voted for Hillary. Some have voted for Donald Trump. And that is your right as an American and I am proud and happy that you did your civic duty and voted. I do not harbor any ill feelings nor do I harbor any ill will. I am just incredibly saddened that my candidate did not win the election.

But I’m hurting right now.  And I need to get this weight of hurt off my shoulders. I’m keeping the language clean (well, mostly) and I’m attempting to be as pragmatic as possible.  So whether you agree or disagree, know that I am always happy to hear what you have to say and I respect you.

I have been hurting all day..and I’m sure I’ll be hurting for a while and will get over it–but for now. I hurt and that’s ok.

This morning I woke up a different person.  Any trace of hope that I had for the progression of this great and beautiful United States of America was erased from my spirit and mind.

I had high hopes that we would wake up to history making progress as we welcomed our first female President of these United States.

hillary

Yes Hillary. I am still with you. You are far more “Presidential”!

Instead, America elected a man who claimed that our beautiful and grand America was not great. And he promised to make our already great country great again.

statue-of-liberty-crying-628x356

Only a con man would make the people of these United States think she is not great.  “Liberty Enlightening The World”–I am crying with you.

He said that he would build a wall to keep Mexicans out of our country.  He also said that he would grab a woman by “the pussy.”  He cheated small businessmen out of money when he refused to pay them. There are many things this vile man did and even worse things that he said. Yet the people of this great country felt that Hillary Clinton was evil because of some emails that had no validity at all. Emails are bad. Donald Trump’s treatment of women is good. I can’t even.

bitmoji-20161109200254

People accepted Trump’s treatment of women as acceptable yet crucified emails. I can’t. I can’t even.

So here’s what I’ve been wondering about in between my episodes of crying all day.

Why is it that all the “Christians” who voted for Trump, voted for a man who cheated on two wives, and then married a woman who was in a porno video and posed nude? And these same people ostracized Hillary for standing by her man during his dalliance.

first-whore

The new First Lay-dee on the far right…

first-whore-2

A more “modest” photo of the woman who will turn the White House into the White Trash House67eb4d76ad997a518d1ebb0f2fa00417To think that women dressed like this who pray and succumb to their men like good little slaves voted for Trump. Trump would call these women unattractive. Or perhaps he would call them pigs just as he has other women.  And these same people approve of Melania naked but disapprove of Michelle Obama baring her arms!

Many people who voted for Trump are “pro-life”. They feel that abortion should be outlawed because it is a sin. (Their Jesus said so. MY Hipster Jesus is all forgiving and welcomes the sinners.) What say you when that little girl down the street—the one who is so nice and kind and babysits for the entire neighborhood, gets pregnant at 16 the first time she had sex because her boyfriend bullied her into it? What happens when she is so scared of her
Christian parents disowning her or beating her to a pulp? She won’t be able to find a doctor because Roe v. Wade will have been overturned. She will find a coat hanger—and TWO lives will be lost.  Is that better?

HipsterJesus

My hipster Jesus welcomes the sinners because he knows we are real . Hipster Jesus forgives and doesn’t care about the ones who judge.

I also wonder about these same right-to-lifers who are also in favor of the death penalty—because we all know that the majority of them are.

But more important is that not everyone is a Christian. Not everyone has the same beliefs.  There are Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Agnostics and Atheists –even Wiccans who make up this America. It is so arrogant to believe that only Christians can rule our country.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not pro-abortion.  It is just that nobody, NOBODY has the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. Not now. Not ever. Never!

And these self-righteous people who make up the conservative and republican ilk who continue on the quest for the right to life are the same people who condemn the homeless. God forbid if their taxes were raised to build better shelters. We would have to hear them complaining about the entitled poor people again.  Would YOU want to trade places with them? No. I didn’t think so—but you continue to condemn them.

went-shopping-online-75547

Ewwww.  Who wants to allow POOR people to get jobs–but yet, do you want them to continue to live in squalor?  Trump supporters want them to live in squalor!

These are the very people who complain that the homeless and less fortunate should go out and get jobs.  This is a slippery slope because if a president created jobs for these people, an uproar of the white entitled would ensue.  But—your new President may be creating more jobs for the citizens of China, as he already has.  Or perhaps he’ll find jobs for the people who live under his buddy Putin’s rule! Just a little snack food for thought!

homeless

My guess is that more people will end up using shopping carts as mobile homes if your President Trump has his way. Better get ready for the homes on wheels!

This is also a man who put the thought into people’s heads that Obama and the Democrats ruined healthcare. No. Obama did NOT ruin healthcare. The Republicans like Mitch McConnell and the rest of his crew made sure to stymie any notion of great healthcare that Obama had.  That is because McConnell and all those Republicans are sleeping with the health insurance companies.  It is also because McConnell along with McCain said that they would put a stop to anything Obama wanted to pass. They simply hated Obama because he is black.

And Trump’s supporters never realized that we have a Republican congress that has already screwed the people of this country over in the past and now they will do it in a bigger and better way.

And this is also a man who claimed that he would date his daughter.  I guess Trump likes to keep everything in the family.  And people voted for a man who admitted to potential incest!

purity_ball_01

Oh I KNOW these incestuous men who claim to “love” their daughters through Purity Balls definitely voted for Donald Trump!

Trump made fun of the mentally and physically disabled. Did you know that I had a sister, Beth Ann, who was born both mentally and physically disabled? She died. And if she had lived to be an adult, she was targeted by Trump.  I don’t know what is sadder. The fact that Trump publically ridiculed the disabled or that my very own siblings, all four of them and their spouses, voted for this same man who ridiculed the sister they never got to know. I will never, ever forget that.

disabled_trump

Take a good look at this visual of your new President. THIS is what he thinks of the disabled. And to think my siblings–with a sister who was severely disabled support and voted for this human venom.

I equate Donald Trump’s actions with that of my ex-husband. He was an alcoholic. He bullied me a couple of times physically, but for the most part, he bullied me emotionally.  I still have issues and deep emotional scars.  I’m not ready to open up about that yet.

Donald Trump is every bullying man—he is the dry-drunk of politicians. He will wreak havoc on people’s emotions.  And people will continue to worship him.

I will not worship him. I will not respect him. I will not admire him.  I will not respect his wife as she is no first lady.  Donald Trump is not my President.

But—in my attempts to be bipartisan, I will continue to wear my killer Ivanka Trump heels—it’s the least I can do as an American citizen.

bipartisan-heels

The Ivanka Trump heels were grandfathered into my use. I have a shoe clause.  Nobody can say I’m not being bipartisan!

My heart goes out to all my gay friends—and those in the gay community I don’t know. You matter to me.  My heart goes out to the transgender community and goes out to those I know and don’t know who are of all races and creeds. I am ashamed because our society that should have been progressing is now regressing. You matter to me.

To all my friends in other countries.  Remember. Not all of us voted for this vile excuse of a man.  There are a great many of us who are compassionate, empathetic, and kind-hearted toward our less fortunate.

There isn’t much more that I can say except we need to heal and we need to move forward. Those of us who care need to support each other.  We truly need love and kindness right now—because we will not be receiving it from our new President nor will we receive it from the conservative congress.

joshuacoombes_glamour_1aug16_instagram

For a perfect example of love and kindness look no further than Joshua Coombes. He travels around Britain with scissor in hand to give the homeless a hair makeover and confidence. THIS is a real man!

For me, I’m happy I have the friends who continue to read my blog—whether they agree with me or not, they matter to me.  I have my three children. I have Bonaparte. It’s all good.

And I’m still with her.

I’m still with ya Hillary!

…and her…

And her….

And Michelle–can I interest you in running for President of the USA in 2020? I have a plan….

Here’s a song I’ve been thinking about all day. R.E.M. “The End of the World”. But now that I’ve thought about it–it ISN’T the end of the world.  But it is very relatable!

Thanks for letting me vent! XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Strength neighbour. We’ve shed tears today. But tomorrow you will awaken stronger with clearer vision and begin the road to healing. Sleep well.

    • Catherine says:

Thanks KB. I’m still completely horrified that so many Americans are filled with hate toward those who aren’t of their conservative ilk. God don’t like ugly and that is what they are. Karma will come to bite them big time in the ass….XOXOXOXOX

  2. hipchick66 says:

I agree! I agree! I got no sleep and have been crying all day. What the hell happened?

    • Catherine says:

Lori. I’ll tell you what happened. All those phoney men who pretended to be for women’s rights were scared out of their nutsacks that a woman could be president and they voted for a pig instead. Women who have no mind of their own listened to their bullying husbands and voted for Trump. The list goes on. My eyes are literally bloodshot. I’m just so sad. I told Bonaparte I’m seeking political asylum when we go to France at the end of the month! XOXOXOXO!!

  3. mareymercy says:

Well you did way better and controlling the cursing than I did, LOL! And honestly, as a woman I’m tired of being the one who has to facilitate the healing. In fact, I’m tired of healing in general. I’m not interested in finding common ground. I don’t know where that is going to take me at the moment, but I am along for the ride. This nasty woman is sick and tired of getting along just to get along, no matter what awfulness comes my way. Here’s hoping that when he loses the next election in four years, he actually LEAVES and doesn’t just hole up in the White House and refuse to go away.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Cynthia. Oh. You should have heard my gutter mouth before going to bed last night and waking up this morning. I hope none of my children have kids within the next four years because to bring an innocent into this world with Trump as President would be a great disservice–especially to a girl. My daughter now feels marginalized. I protected her from fashion magazines and any articles that would destroy her self-confidence and empowerment as a woman–and it was all for naught because we now have a filthy male bully in the white house. I’m spent!! XOXOXO!!!

  4. Elizabeth says:

Thank you, Catherine. I can’t say when I will feel better, or when I will look differently at the people I call friends, yet who voted for this horror of a being, but your words have helped me feel less alone.

    • Catherine says:

Elizabeth. I give you hugs. We are not alone. There are a great many of us who, as women, are a strong force. It’s a shame that women even voted for Trump. Just think–a cheat, a rapist and a womanizer was voted into the Presidency, while a woman who did the right thing and stood by her man was crucified. I’m ashamed and embarrassed to be an American. This is gonna take a while for me too! XOXOXOXO!!!

  5. Judy says:

Catherine, you said exactly what I’ve been feeling all day. Anger, horror, frustration, and profound sadness. This is going to take awhile to get over. Eventually I hope we can come up with plan. And in the meantime, those who voted for him will see how it plays out. I think it may inspire me to do something, I don’t know what yet but I have to try to think some good will come from this. Peace to all.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Judy. Yeah. I need to find some “good” right now. But it is so hard to focus. I’m in shock that women would vote for this man. I just can’t wrap my head around how people would fall for this vicious con man. My French friends are feeling very badly for me–but I don’t want pity. I want hope I just can’t find it right now. I think the good that’ll come out of it is four shitty years–and then it’ll get better because these conservative bozos will see how vile their party is….XOXOXOXO!!!

  6. Missy says:

Ashamed , embarrassed but equally furious that this happened. Thank you for the opportunity to vent feelings about this abhorrent election. How this happened is a clear picture of our neighbors and fellow citizens that supported this candidate. SBD silent but deadly!!

    • Catherine says:

YES! Missy. YES! Bonaparte brought up the SBD citizens. The sneaky ones who were moving about like little snakes. Not saying anything but allowing their silent racism and hatred of strong women take them to the vote for Trump! I’m glad you brought that up! XOXOXO!!!

  7. Elizabeth says:

In my self-serving pity party, I neglected to express my deep sympathy for the loss of your sister. Such sadness for your family. Clearly you have turned the grief you’ve felt into a heart filled with compassion for others. You are an outstanding person, and I’m grateful for the kind words you bestow so willingly on your followers. Thank you so much.

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Elizabeth. That was so long ago I was 12–and I will not forgive my siblings for voting for Trump in any way, shape or form. They put a racist filthy pig before a member of their family. My mother never raised us to be dismissive of anyone with a disability. I may have had a strained relationship with her, but by God, my mother had no patience with ANYONE who made fun of those who were mentally or physically challenged. She’s rolling in her grave over the fact that my four sibs voted for a man who would send the disabled off the face of the earth! XOXOXOXO!!!

  8. Terri Lee says:

I took the American flag down from my home and it won’t be going back up anytime soon. He is not my president either. I am seriously considering “restructuring” my Facebook page. I don’t even know some of these people I thought were friends if they were able to support this disgusting dirt bag. Some of them are women who did not give in to husbands, but who are obviously batshit crazy. As a widow who has been worrying about finances and who was diagnosed with Crohn’s a few years ago, I have enough on my plate as it is. To have to face an uncertain future with this idiot at the helm is scarier than ever. I told my friends that we need to say goodbye to our beautiful Bald Eagle because the new national symbol is now the Dodo. Just horrible. XOXOXOXO P.S. Can you please stow me in your overhead compartment on your next trip to France? I want to be in a sane country!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Terri. And this is the man who ruined America overnight. The people who voted for him are in for a rude awakening. I cannot, in any way, shape or form understand how ANY woman would vote for him. He is filth.
Honestly, his voters are not foreseeing anything that can happen. I feel what you are going through. I lost a home and was jobless for almost two years. I’m constantly worrying about my health and my future. My ex-husband threatened to sue ME for alimony when I was working a few years back..and my siblings are all friendly with him. Birds of a feather will soon get plucked! I thank God every night that my kids are decent people and they don’t deserve a president like Trump! I gotta stop! My head hurts. If I wasn’t on a diet I would have a few bourbons! XOXOXOXO!!!

      • Terri Lee says:

Catherine, I don’t even drink alcohol, but in this case I just might make an exception and join you in a few bourbons! HAHA! I had to laugh at Momcat’s response, with her “White Trash House”! Too TRUE! I’ll be using that one, Momcat, if you don’t mind.
Sending you love and hugs! Thank you for expressing what so many of us are feeling. XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!!

    • calensariel says:

FYI, if you fly the flag upside down it means the US is in trouble… Or so I’ve been told…

  9. lllueck says:

Very well said. Thank you for expressing so well how I feel. I just can’t comprehend how this happened. We must, somehow, move on. Sheour we will do it together!
    laura

  10. Momcat says:

Ah sweetie, I feel so bad for you. I agree the idea of Mr. T in the White Trash House for the next four years is beyond scary. What’s next? Kim Kardashian as Homeland Secretary? I’ll tell you who is really, really frightening…Mr.T’s VICE President that’s who. That guy is so anti LGBT, anti abortion it’s disgusting. Up here (North of 49) many have opined Schtrumph will be impeached at some point or (and I hate to even repeat this) will fall to an assassin. I pray that neither event takes place because a) too horrible to contemplate b) Pence becomes Prez and truly all hell will break loose…But what do I know? I fly the Maple Leaf forever not the Stars and Stripes, but I have family in California and Philly and I am worried for them.
Stay calm and carry on writing your marvellous blog. Life goes on. As my brother said when he found out he had brain cancer “It is what it is. We have to deal with it and move forward.” Mr T has four years, my poor brother found out on Monday he has probably two years. Maybe.
On the bright side you get into bed nightly with darling Bonaparte, First Lay-dee,… not so lucky!
    XXXOOO

    • Catherine says:

Momcat. Your brother is an inspiration to us all. Oh. Don’t even start up with Pence. He is more of a Nazi than Trump is. He wants to arrest gays. WTF??? He IS the worst example of a Roman Catholic I’ve ever come across in my life. I feel like writing to Pope Frank about how vicious Pense is. I watched Guiliani on TV last night–the guy really resembles Nostferatau (sp). He was talking about ending entitlement programs because people need to go get jobs. WHERE ARE THE JOBS? Oh I can’t even. This is just horrific and the American people did it to themselves!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

      • patricia blaettler says:

I predict that Giuliani will be diagnosed with dementia sometime in the near term. He’s absolutely gone off the deep end.

  11. Patricia says:

Hi Catherine, been reading your blog for a while. I’m not American, and I don’t live in the US, but today I made a donation to Planned Parenthood in the US. Seemed like the least I could do. I know in my heart that not ALL Americans are Trumpsters … but I have to say that the reputation and integrity of the US is now in tatters.

    • Catherine says:

Patricia. THANK YOU!! Planned Parenthood is a wonderful and generous organization. They have helped women in the areas of health and wellness and to try to end this organization is a crime. Thank you so much!! Oh..we American’s are going to be judged very severely when we travel but I’m up to it!! I want to let everyone know that I did NOT vote for him!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  12. tom says:

I guess where I come from is an alternate universe. Calling people deplorables and continuing questing Trumps sanity is considered mean not {residential. Of course we want to break the glass ceiling, but the people are saying not her, not mow.

  13. A well written post, Cathe! My heart bled today as I had to explain to my son how the biggest bully found his way to the White House while I had been teaching him all along that bullies and bullying is bad!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Rashmi. How DO we tell the children that a bully conned his way into the White House? This next four years is going to be horrific in every way. He wants to dismantle Obamacare–and though the program has faults, at least the advantages are that pre-existing conditions can be grandfathered. Trump will do away with that. It’s awful Most of Trumps voters are the uneducated. Trump, along with his supports, has given the American public the right to bully, belittle in a cruel way. I’m really saddened–but we are not alone in our thinking.XOXOXOXO!!!

      • The saddest part was that while they believed he would be the change they wanted, they forgoto to consider how or if it is even a possibility to accomplish all that he claims he will do!!

  14. Catherine, I read each and every one of your blogs! I love your honesty! And I feel exactly the same about this election – I’ve had a stomach ache and feeling of impending doom all day. However, I’ve taken solace in the many, many Facebook posts from like-minded people. And, remembering that we we all come from the same ancient star dust and it’s up to us to “be the change we want to see”. Keep the faith and I’ll be looking forward to your next post! Xoxo

    • Catherine says:

Hi Jann. And thank you. Thank you for reading and being a friend. We are all feeling the same right now. It’s going to take a while before we calm down but remember you have a place to vent!! I’m hoping that Elizabeth Warren is running in 2020–or Michelle. We NEED a woman President!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  15. Irene Albert says:

I enjoy your blogs but this one gets the highest award for saying what is in many many peoples minds,,,women and men! As it is said in French,,,I am a “woman of a certain age” and I cried like a baby this morning, then I got the horrible thought that perhaps because one never knows what the future holds, this could have been the last time for my to vote. sad sad sad

    • Catherine says:

Irene. We don’t know what the future holds. Brexit was bad. Trump is worse and who will be the next President of France? Let’s hope this wave of conservatism stops. We need hope and strength! XOXOXOXO!!!

  16. Adryana says:

I’m sorry for the outcome. 😔 I was and still am with her too. Let’s just hope that he’s actually a better and smarter man than he proved himself to be during the whole election time.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Adryana. Oh. I’l always be with her. Unfortunately, I do not think Trump will prove to be a better person. He’s already started spewing more hate as his supporters are now beating gays..they’ll probably start beating random women next………XOXOXOXO!!!

      • Adryana says:

Oh my god! 😔 What this world is coming to? Is Trump anti gay too? Or it’s just his supporters who think gays are their enemies? 🙁

  17. Judy says:

From across the pond, I send my love and virtual hugs. When the world we live in has literally been turned upside down overnight it is hard to see what good can come out of it, but hang on, Catherine’s blog and all thes posts have proved that the filth shortly to move into the White House is not representative of the US, and although four years may seem an eternity, 2020 will be here before you know it. Keep the faith, ladies!

    • Catherine says:

Judy. You said it all! We have to keep the faith..and it is great to see women so passionate about the result of the election. We are a force to be dealt with!! XOXOXOX!!!

  18. Rosemary Eychenne says:

Hi Catherine, your blog brought tears to my eyes. The idea that we women FINALLY got to be able to vote only to find that some (a lot) of us actually voted for this man who has shown so many times what he thinks of us. And they did it freely. My question is, are we women our own worst enemy ?
    Bises xxx
PS here in France, we are all scared to hell that LE Pen will get in during next year’s presidential elections.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Rosemary. Right??? I am scratching my head over the fact that we finally got the vote–and not that long ago and still women put themselves backward by years to vote for this horrible man. I can’t even…Oh..Bonaparte is worried sick that Le Pen will be the next President!! She has a chance because Hollande was way to the left…it’s so awful that there is no such thing as a political middle ground anymore!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  19. Rachel says:

Thank you for making me aware of Joshua Coombes – what a super person. I didn’t know about purity balls, and whilst curious, I think I’ll stay somewhat ignorant on that point. Also don’t know much about the new VP – Pence.

I recognise the sadness and disillusion you write of. It does hurt! I won’t diminish it by saying that it gets better. True emotions need to be felt.

The thing that really baffles me is that Trump has had wives (not all at once!), daughters, nieces, a mother, etc etc. I am immensely grateful for growing up in an environment where I was encouraged to do my best. To shoot for the moon.

    Have strength.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Rachel. Oh. A movie needs to be made about Joshua Coombes–what a truly kind and wonderful human he is. Purity balls? Ugh, I saw a documentary about them and literally had to shut it off toward the end because it was so creepy. These fathers want their daughters to “promise” them they will stay pure and only love their dads till they get married. The dads buy them rings. It’s so sick!!! And Pence–let me put it this way. As much as I can’t stand Trump, I don’t want anything to happen to him because Pence would be worse as President. He wants to arrest doctors who perform abortions. He’s written articles on why corporations should not hire gays. Pence is a real Goering. He’s vile–the worst example of a Catholic I’ve ever seen in my life.
Let’s make sure we shoot the moon in 2020!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  20. Jilly says:

I’m always happy when your latest blog pitches up in my inbox but this is the first time I’ve felt I really had to reply as yesterday’s jaw-dropping result will impact on the whole world. Over here in the UK, the BBC was covering the election all through the night, most of the day and now again this morning – it was all too reminiscent of Brexit with the sense of complete disbelief as the results were coming through. Far too early to tell as yet, but one can only hope that the new president will have some kind of epiphany and prove all his doubters wrong. Hmm – can’t quite believe I just wrote that as I’m more a ‘glass half empty’ sort of person and am really concerned about how the next few years will pan out both sides of the pond. Much love and sympathy from the UK to all of you.

    • Catherine says:

Jilly. I remember being in France at the apartment and watching the news break about Brexit. We were shocked and after the shock wore off, Bonaparte told me–America is next if Trump ever becomes President. And at that point Trump was still something of a joke. None of us are laughing now!!! I don’t think this vile man will have an epiphany at all–did you see any of his choices for his cabinet? Rudy Guiliani? Chris Christie? Ugh. I’m getting upset again. XOXOXOXOX!!!

  21. calensariel says:

Lordy! I feel SO much better after reading your blog because now I don’t have to write one. Tuesday night during the election coverage my 38-year-old son had an anxiety attack. We were up with him till 1:30 trying to calm him down. Yesterday my daughter, who is from India and has been here since she was seven, was wondering if she needed to be worried. My niece in California broke down and cried for hours as did my best friend’s daughter. And have you noticed the poetry floating around written by young women who feel they won’t be safe in America any more? Even Drollery was so agitated at the thought of what Trump might do that he went out and bought a damn gun! We all feel like America as we know it is no more and that we are likely on the verge of a war with Lord knows who!

As to that wall… Trump never mentioned that 70 miles of that border crosses an Indian reservation. Land the government can’t touch. What do you think Trump will do with that?

And as to the Christians? I no longer refer to myself as that. I am a follower of Jesus, and it disgusts me that the things Trump has done and said — practically calling himself a savior because he’s the only one who can fix this country — can be ignored by the religious right for the sake of abortion. Those religious leaders came right out and said that the ONLY THING THAT MATTERED IN THIS ELECTION WAS THAT TRUMP WAS PROLIFE. I’ve got news for them. A narcissist is never for ANYTHING that doesn’t benefit them.

Thanks, Cath, for making your blog available as a dumping ground. I sure needed that this morning.

    • Catherine says:

Lady Calen. You can use this blog as your dumping ground forever!! Oh–those “Christians” are a joke. I’ll stick with my buddy Hipster Jesus. He’s more realistic and has a sense of humor!! But you are right–who cared that Trump made fun of the disabled? Who cared that he used vile language against women? His prolife stance washed it all away!! W.T.F.???????????????????????
Trump lies. His supporters are in for a rude awakening!!! XOXOXOX!!

  22. Bridget says:

    Yep. Everything.

  23. vavashagwell says:

Very well written article and I agree with EVERYTHING you said. To think I was shocked back in 1980 when a senile actor became president! He at least, had some government experience! Now we are facing a term for a sexist, racist, reality show star! Plus, you know he’s going to appoint all those turds he hangs out with to important Cabinet posts.

    • Terri Lee says:

Yes, at least Reagan had been the Governor of California before running as President. He was also the one who was diagnosed during his time in office with early symptoms of Alzheimers. Another scary time for America, but not as scary as now.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Vava!! Yeah. Back in 1980 it was a joke that an actor cum politician ran for President. I know this is mean-and Terri Lee, I know it’s scary, but Trump would be better off if he DID have early Alzheimer’s then he would forget everything and maybe be one of those nice dementia patients!! XOXOXOXO!!

    • patricia says:

i still cant believe reagan was ever elected but this is starting to sink in – everyone who mentions him puts their hands on their stomachs and says they feel nauseated – its a visceral thing for sure – i’m healing at the moment by cooking a meatloaf, lighting a lovely candle someone just gave me, and listening to leonard cohen – thank you catherine you took the words right out of my mouth

  24. LA CONTESSA says:

    GOBSMACKED.
    YOU made VERY GOOD POINTS!
    STILL STUNNED TODAY.
    XO

  25. Sherrie says:

Ah, Catherine – as you say, I can’t even. I was so hoping in my lifetime to see a woman elected president. I’m looking at silver linings – she received the majority of all overall votes, and we won’t have to endure 4 years of pointless, endless investigations into emails, Benghazi, and the Clinton Foundation. The Republicans now have at least 2 years to show us how well they will govern the country. Let’s see them do it. Maybe afterwards they will stop behaving like spoiled children and allow real adults to take over and actually get some good accomplished.

    • Terri Lee says:

Oh, Sherrie, I’m hoping it’s true, but I don’t hold out hope for the type of people Republicans have become. Let us not forget DUH-bya and Vice Puppeteer Cheney. They had 8 years to “govern” this country and look at the end result President Obama ended up with. We were thisclose to another Great Depression.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Sherrie. Yup. On the positive we won’t have to endure the accusations that Clinton has had to bear from Trump and his ilk. But sooner or later Trumps supporters will turn on him for his false promises. I want the unsalted, unbuttered popcorn because it’s gonna be one interesting if not entertaining shitshow!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  26. Julie says:

I’m Canadian, I’ve been following everything. I just can’t believe after all the things Trump has said about woman that he would get elected. What are they thinking,

    • Juia Poulos says:

I totally agree. I don’t get it. The college-educated women? Some are closet Trumpers.

    • 5allan1 says:

I am Canadian as well, and have been following the election campaign with horror. There are so many things wrong, why were/are people so willing to think to that trump didn’t mean the horrible things he said and so willing to believe that the mistruths about HRC were fact.
This is the best article I have read since the election. Thank you for writing it.

    • Catherine says:

Julie. You are Canadian. You are one of the LUCKY Americans!! And women VOTED for him. They were NOT thinking!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  27. Anne says:

    Amen, Catherine.

I was and am still physically sick; sick, embarrassed, and scared as well that Trump will be our next President. And even sicker knowing that this many people in my beloved country share his bigoted beliefs. I cannot bare to hear Trump speak, as he always makes me upset and mad about what comes out of his mouth. How I am going to get through the years ahead of him as President I do not know.

    Anne

    • Juia Poulos says:

I guess I won’t be able to read political news anymore because I can’t stand to look at Orange man!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Anne. Oh. I hear you on this. I LOVE our country. America was founded by those who were ostracized so they started a new life here. Look at how many of us come from foreign roots! The man is just vile. Well, as I said. He is not MY President. Not now. Not ever. Never!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  28. angelin2014 says:

I´m Swedish, and have to admit that the jokes we have made the last few days about Americans have not been nice, and it´s good to be reminded that so many of you are grieving now. Thanks Catherine for reminding me!
You are not alone, the good forces in this world have to join together so that we all survive this new great American President. For me I´m wondering if he will let Russia bomb Syria and put a puppet-government there, if he will actually make Japan pay for “protection” (which they won’t do, but build their own army and risk the peace in that part of the world), he will not stand by NATO and so risk the security and peace in Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania among other states. He is simply a threat to world peace and Americans just gave him the key to nuclear weapons.
I have been saying all along that Americans are too smart to do this, now I don’t know. The man who wants to make America great by isolating the country, will not make any dollars on me.My personal small revenge is not setting my foot in USA until he is out (=not spending my money on American goods, hotels etc). I think this is the time to travel the rest of the world, while there still is one.

    • Catherine says:

Angelin. You’ve said what so many Europeans and citizens from all over are saying. I’ll be in France at the end of the month and would love to stay there permanently. I know that I’ll have a lot of explaining to do to Bonaparte’s family as I keep reminding them that not ALL Americans voted for that vicious pig. Our entire world is hurting and ignorance and the uneducated along with the educated who could not stand the thought of a woman president made the hurt worse!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  29. junedesilva says:

Catherine, I am at a loss for words. Your song choice says it all. Elections are taking place here in France, next year, with another vile creature Marine Le Pen standing for President. Enough said…
I send you virtual hugs. xx

    • Catherine says:

June-Bonaparte is really worried. First Trump now Le Pen. Our world has literally lost it’s mind. It is now the demise of civilization as we know it. XOXOXOXO!!!

  30. Dear Catherine, I’ve been following your blog for a while, and really appreciate your honesty abour your personalissues which, in a way, are our own (maybe we’re not so corageous to talk openly about them). Living in Europe, and with a francophone education, I take great pride in our european values, even if, sometimes, they seem to be forgotten around here. I’m close to 60 and feel really worried with the path to world seems to follow. I, too, felt extremelly excited with the idea of havinf the first female POTUS, after the most loved president I remember, here in Europe and around the world. Just some years ago, we thought the american society was almost ready to overcome racism, bigotry or xenophobia, but now, I feel there was a step back of many decades. And the real worry is that it’s spreading. As you know, in France the far-wright is increasing dramatically, wich is also happening in many other european countries. What a waste of so many and wonderful gains of mankind!!! (By the way, I get really mad when one blames Obama for what went wrong!! Don’t people remember the fierce oposition of all republican forces to any measure he tried to implement?)
Anyway, maybe there’s a positive point in all this – sooner or later someone like Trump would come to power, and maybe it’s time to see how he fulfills the promises and the insane threats. The US is stronger than some os it’s disgusting politicians and their gang. There’s still many millions of great people. Don’t lose hope, and you can always do some escapades to France ;)).
I’ll keep following your posts, which I really, really appreciate,
    Luísa

    • Catherine says:

Luisa. Thank you so much for your insightful words. You got it right. Nothing went wrong because of Obama–it was the Republican congress that stymied him. The republicans are evil, hateful people. And now they are ruling the roost. This wave of conservatism is disgusting and IS setting the world back decades. Let’s hope Le Pen does not get elected in France!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  31. Lesley says:

Thank you Catherine, you have expressed so beautifully what I am feeling – over here in the UK. I’m still feeling the horrible shock of ‘brexit’ – which upset me a great deal, but now this. I’m sure we have politicians equally as obnoxious as Trump, behind closed doors, but Trump never hid his repulsive attitudes and behaviour. Whatever the voters found appealing has completely passed me by. But I wish all the people of America well, and the very best of luck – it will be needed in the months ahead.

    • Catherine says:

Lesley, I’m glad that you feel the same way I do. Oh..the Brexit thing–I’m still scratching my head over it–but it’s so similar to the way people voted for Trump. All hell is breaking out in our country. Lots of protesting (and rightly so) and Trumps supporters are beating up gays and it’s just awful. Something is going to happen and it isn’t going to be good!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  32. Judy says:

Bravo, Catherine. I agree with everything you said. And I’m sorry for your family troubles …

    • Catherine says:

Oh god. Judy. Don’t feel sorry for me due to family troubles. I don’t even look at it as trouble. I see it as it just IS and I am not a part of it!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  33. Juia Poulos says:

Brava, Catherine. Well-written! A great pall has settled over my home state (NJ) and my town, Princeton, NJ. Every woman I know is stunned and upset! I had a discussion this morning, before my PoliSci class, with an older white male who loves Trump and thinks he is not as bad as he sounds!!! Oh the humanity!!!!

    • Catherine says:

Julia. If I was still living in Pennington, NJ, I probably would have gotten into my car, drove to Hoagie Haven on Nassau Street in Princeton and gotten one of the biggest cheesesteak sandwiches I could shove in my mouth just to feel better!! I’m beyond reproach with the results!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  34. JulietC says:

Hug, over here in Scotland we were (still are) in shock – the morning of the result, shock was palpable in our office. I respect anyone who voted, even if I don’t agree with their beliefs. I find it harder to understand people who don’t vote – especially women, even if you don’t like either candidate – think, read, think, read, think… especially women, I don’t understand non voting women.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Juliet. Thank you for the hug, I need lots of them. Oh–the only people I truly do not respect are those who are too lazy to get off their asses to vote. They have no right to complain or even mention politics. Non voting women are ignorant. Period. That is the nicest thing I can say right now!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

      • Jean Prince says:

Catherine, here in Australia voting is compulsory for all elections, or a stiff fine. The reason for this was that if you live here you are responsible for the decisions made. This still does not stop us voting in complete right wing idiots. I had so hoped for a Clinton win.

  35. mrsicarus says:

My heart goes out to you, Catherine. With love from England, Carla x

  36. Shannon says:

Calen directed me to your post after I tried to get my own feelings about all of this out, but you did it soooo much better than I could! Thank you for expressing what so many of us are trying to work out in our heads in the aftermath. I am very angry and trying to wrap my head around how so many people bought into that but most especially women!
    Awesome writing!

    • Catherine says:

Welcome Shannon! Thank you! Oh. I have tried and tried and tried to wrap my head around this and just come up with a huge question mark. I cannot understand how ANY woman would vote for a man who bullies and name calls women. He is a filthy pig and I’ll reiterate. Trump is NOT my President!! #Imstillwithher!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  37. June says:

I’m speechless, stunned, sad, and scared. Defies common sense. Still cant grasp it.

    • Catherine says:

All of us who voted for Hillary are still thinking the same. The dumb and uneducated and misinformed people of this country put that vicious man in the White House and it is those very same people who will pay dearly for it. Mark my words!! XOXOXO

  38. doodletllc says:

    Michelle Obama in 2020…Yes!

  39. Oneyda Perez says:

    Bravo, my grand lady, bravo!!!!

  40. Hi Catherine, thanks for posting in my Seniors Sixty Plus Facebook group. All welcome to join, especially senior bloggers!
There are no words. I really feel for you. We will see repercussions here in Oz too I am sure.
After Brexit, your election result not too much of a surprise although obviously America is shocked. I don’t think for a moment all of America approves of Trumps tactics. Many of them are hurting because the great divide between rich and poor has not been lessened but increased over the years. And if they are uneducated, who is responsible for their lack of education? They wanted change, they wanted simple answers. Shame that what Trump will deliver will not be what they envisaged.
I have never been to America so all I know comes from online & TV. From Facebook I did think that some democrats were a bit complacent. They never considered that Trump could win. But all we have heard on TV for months is Trump. Trump this and Trump that and every time he said or did something outrageous he seems to have got more airtime. As all toddlers know, negative attention is as as good as positive. It gets results. Trump may hate the media, but he knows how to use it. My fear is that they have elected a dictator . . .
Yes, our parents and grandparents are surely rolling in their graves.
Unthinkable only a short time ago that Europe and the UK could break up. Now even the US can break up.
Such rapid change and if you factor in technology, frightening.

    • Catherine says:

Maddy..it is like the new Civil War here in the States. We are a great country that is now divided. This is the second time that a candidate–and a Democrat candidate WON the popular vote and LOST the presidency. The electoral college does nothing to benefit a true democracy. We, in America are a falsely democratic nation and until the Electoral College is abolished, only then will we be a true democracy. This man is dangerous. And his supporters will find out soon enough just how dangerous this vile man really is!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  41. Paula Brink says:

Catherine, a big hug to you from your neighbour to the north.
I agree with everything you said. Scary times but now will be the time for people to be vigilant, strong and supportive.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Paula. I’m supportive of Trudeau! Seriously–I just am at a loss for words. Right now, I’m looking forward to working with my local Democratic Committee to make sure people go out and vote in the mid-term elections. These Republican members of congress need the heave-ho!! XOXOXOXO!!!
