I Am Back. And Heavier!

Hi everyone!  It’s week 13 and I’m back from Paris.

I’ve gained a pound. 148-8-a-pound-gained

I honestly thought I would have gained more considering all the food and drink that went into my body….

I literally ate a ton of food.  I drank so much red wine that I was afraid if I was in an accident, I would have bled Medoc or Bordeaux.

And presently I am working on TRYING TO FIX AN ISSUE WITH MY IPHONE!!  For some reason I can’t upload pictures and I”m pissed off.  I’ve got lots to write about and had a blast.

So as soon as I figure this #$)#$)*# ing stuff out. I’ll be writing posts about the trip.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO!!!

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Welcome back, Catherine! I’m looking forward to reading all about your trip.

I’ve been reading about your weight loss journey over the past couple of months. I hope you’ll forgive me saying so, but it distresses me to read you measuring your “success” or “failure” by the numbers on your scale. You are so much more than that. Women in general spend so much time berating themselves over their weight — as if it’s all that defines them. It’s not. It’s such a waste of energy, is self-defeating, affects self esteem, and can create an unhealthy obsession with food and calories.

I don’t mean to single you out, Catherine, and if I’ve offended you, I apologize.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Susan. Nah, you didn’t offend me at all. Everyone has their opinions on the numbers game. For me, I need to keep track of the numbers or I will fall off the food wagon the way a drunk falls off the liquid wagon. If I’m not at a comfortable weight, I’ll feel lousy. I feel good now–and intend to keep it that way that’s why I need to check those digits!!
Please–don’t apologize here–we’re all friends and can speak our minds! XOXOXOXO!!

It seems that if it is your intention to lose weight, that the scale is a good measure of your success. The scale is not, however a good measure of your success in other areas! I don’t mean to offend either…but you said “I gained a pound”…you did NOT say “I am an unsuccessful human being”!

  4. Only one pound? That is awesome! I gain more than that in just one weekend! Ugg. You are doing a great job! Keep at it. – Amy

I think one pound is a small price to pay for a trip to Paris. I get on the scale every morning. It’s not an image thing; it’s a health thing. Welcome back!

Welcome home. Can’t wait to hear news of your trip. Probably your weight gain is water retention from the flights. xxoo

Only a pound, I’m so impressed! I’ve just come back after three months in France and I’ve put on at least 7 pounds! I just can’t help myself when I’m surrounded by all that lovely food & wine; especially bread & cheese. Never mind, there’s no way I’m going to restrict myself in France, I’ll eat sensibly in the UK. I’m looking forward to hearing about your Paris trip. xx

Hi Catherine I have missed so many posts because I can’t subscribe but need to seek and yeh shall find. Loved all the last few updates. Jake is so handsome. Great tip on the Amazon fiber mascara. We went to Charleston for four days at Thanksgiving and had a marvelous time though restaurant cooked turkey is not a patch on home cooked. My children arrive from Australia tonight and I am beyond excited. My hands are sore and red from scrubbing every surface in the flat place cooking multiple choices of dishes for their arrival. I sympathise with you about not baking on Thanksgiving. I made an apple and blackberry crumble but have yet to doing proper baking here. Miss my Kitchen-aid and miss baking. I have a small tree and decorations and bought my Pointsetta yesterday. I went to the lighting of the Whitehouse Christmas Tree so really getting excited.
I loved all your outfits particularly the navy with striped shirt. I will have to back later and listen to the music choices. Very best Y

  10. This was an epic post – and an epic trip it sounds like! I almost sent you a message before the trip when you showed us what you were packing and I only saw a blazer (instead of a warm coat,) but decided against it. Maybe I should have. 😉 Ah, the Champs-Elysées Christmas market! I went years ago, bundled up as I recall, with my folks. What a muddy affair that was! We never returned. Looking at your photos and how “kitschy” it has become, I am glad we stayed away all these years. Happy Monsieur Bonaparte could find a friendly place to enjoy foie gras and French conversation, though. Can’t wait to read Part 2. I will be heading back in a couple of weeks for the Holidays, and your post made me even more impatient to be home. Bonne fin de weekend! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

    • Catherine says:

Hi Veronique! Yeah. Bonaparte said that going to the Christmas market was a labor of love for me on his part. When I suggested going back on Monday afternoon, his eyes said it all. We didn’t return! I’m working on “Day Two” now. You are so lucky to be returning home for the holidays!! LOL–glad I contributed to your impatience!!! XOXOXOXO!!!
