Dear Mr. President and Madame Vice President-An Open Letter

Dear Mr. President and Madame Vice President,

After four years, I’ll no longer cringe when I see the flag!

As I sit here with less than 48 hours until your Inauguration and am filled with both anticipation and hope. Anticipation because I hope the events run smoothly void of the evil that infiltrated the Capitol last week.

Reaction to Biden picking Harris as running mate

On this eve before you are President Biden and Vice President Harris, I’m filled with hope!

Hope because the last four years had left me hopeless.  The Coward; the liar; the racist; the misogynist; the anti-American who did absolutely nothing of substance or nothing good or positive for our America has left our beautiful country in shambles and broken.  Our America, Lady Liberty needs to heal.  We the people need to heal.

The damaged country as we know her now will heal. And she will rise even stronger—because that is what America is. An empowering stronghold.  We suffered from the throws of a leader who did not care about our country but instead, put himself first.

Like Hitler, he conned the under-and uneducated, and enticed the wealthy with tax breaks. He lacked a moral compass and so did his supporters.

I want to put that behind me and us now.

I want to feel safe and reassured that my Government will, once again, put its arms around us and help and guide us with your leadership.

It won’t be easy for either of you.  Joe—you have a contingent of people who deem you an extreme liberal—when in reality, you are a moderate who leans to the left.  Just as I and millions of citizens who love our country lean.  Kamala—don’t let those who feel having a woman in power isn’t right. They are ignorant.  We are proud and beaming with joy that you, you, have made history—not only as the first woman Vice President, but also as the first woman Vice President of color.  It is a glorious moment for all of us!

Both of you. Please be true to your word.  Please put we, the American people, first.  Please put our country first.  Bring us back to glory.  The words you said about having a moral obligation were so honest and so correct.  The moral obligation of the past president was null and void as it also was with his Republican congress and his cronies. But then, what would you expect from those with no moral compass?

I do believe you will bring a moral compass back to our congress. I do believe you can be the key to bi-partisanship once more. For we cannot be a complete America without both parties coming together.

So please. Be careful.  Don’t display a false sense of security because that last leader garnered a cult following of wicked, dishonorable, corrupt people who will continue to ruin our country.

I wish you luck. I wish you success. Godspeed.

With love, admiration, and hope,

Your Fellow American,

Catherine Lartigue

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

Here here!!! I am counting the hours!

  2. B says:

    Please! Enough of the politics.

    • Catherine says:

Ummmm. No! I’ll speak my mind on any given subject from makeup to skincare to food and travel and politics. XXOXOXOXO

      • Denise says:

Bravo! I unfollowed people who made no mention of January 6. Not that I expected the eloquence you state, but NOTHING?? Please, a return to civility for our country.

      • Catherine says:

Denise! Can I give you a hug? I’m soooooooooooooooo glad you addressed that. After January 6th, I was shocked to see NOTHING from bloggers and Instagrammers (I’m currrently on a Facebook Ban of a month for referring to one of the Capitol Terrorists as a “bitch” and I should have said worse). It astounds me that women can be either that cowardly or afraid to lose folowers. I lose followers like a menopausal woman loses her keys-my ideologies are far more important. Four years ago a woman who shall remain unnamed, but is the “head” of a “fierce” woman’s group didn’t vote. She didn’t like trump but didn’t care for clinton so she didn’t vote. I unfollowed. four years ago. XOXOXOXOXO

      • vavashagwell says:

People who refuse to discuss the situation in our country are precisely the reason why these last 4 years have been an absolute shit storm. I thoroughly enjoy your blog because you don’t ignore it!!

      • Catherine says:

Oh Vava you are so correct. You have NO idea how I observe feeds on Instagram of women–especially MATURE demographic women who NEVER add their opinion on politics and stay mum–even after the raid on the Capitol. Their silence speaks volumes. If a woman has no opinion or refuses to share it, then she’s a submissive and very shallow (and trust me, Im shallow) person with no personality. XOXOXOXOXO

  3. Sheryl Wilson says:

I understand this is YOUR page and YOUR viewpoint, but I come here for beauty tips and to enjoy your wonderful self deprecating sense of humor NOT to be insulted for voting a different way. I don’t belong to a cult and I am not under educated nor am I wicked, dishonest or corrupt. Obviously you don’t need me to be a part of your followers or audience. I don’t hate people who have different political ideas so I wish you well. Unsubscribing today.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Sheryl. Yes. This is my blog and I have all the right to say and speak my mind on any given subject. Your devotion to a man with no moral compass is your choice and I thank you for unsubscribing.

      • teakar says:

        That’s just your opinion!

      • Catherine says:

My Blog. My Voice. My Words. My Opinion. And don’t ever forget that! XOXOXO

      • Denise says:

Me again – after copious amounts of bubbly celebrating today! Your last sentence encompasses the last four years! How any woman can tolerate him – let alone vote and DEFEND him – is totally beyond me.
PS looking forward to a hug, even virtual.

  4. Rebecca says:

YAY girl I was beginning to think I was the only one to be able to see that the e emperor was naked

  5. Missi says:

Amen and amen. Let ‘em unsubscribe, and you’ll be left with a huge following who believe in character, empathy…and sanity!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Missi! Exactly! Do these Shitler supporters think I’m going to be upset if they unscubscribe? Honestly–some people are just too self-important! XXOXOXO

  6. Julie F says:

YESYESYESYES!!!! Everything you said. And then some. Can finally take a breath after holding it for four years. Couldn’t keep from tearing up listening to Biden say goodbye to Delaware. I wish him & Harris all good things. They deserve it & goddess knows they will need it trying to turn this 4-year sh*tshow around. Will be glued to the tube tomorrow. Whatever happens, I want to be able to bear witness.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Julie. I will have my Roasary on my desk at work tomorrow to continue praying for Biden’s and Harris’s safety. I want our new President and Veep to be secure and well-protected from the trash! XOXOXOXOXO

  7. kabuchi1 says:

Well said, Catherine. C’est tres Bon!

  8. Jane says:

Well said. Let’s take time to remember all those we lost because the man in office didn’t or won’t address the situation. Looking forward to the future.

  9. Jean says:

I continue to be amazed at people who get disgruntled because of what blog owners write on their own blogs and think that “unsubscribing” is an act of defiance that will teach the blog owner a lesson. Keep up the good work and say whatever is on your mind.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Jean. Right???? OMG. I’ve unfollowed many a blog and do the Irish exit. I leave quietly. These people are rather self-important now, aren’t they? I’l continue to speak my mind–and speaking my mind just got me a 30-day ban from Facebook-LOL. I’ve been in FB jail more then I’ve been out of it during these past few months! XOXOXOXOXO

  10. marsha57 says:

Oh, happy day! Tomorrow, at this time, the years of hopelessness and tears will be over! Thank you for always being you, outspoken, courageous, and correct! When history looks back on 45, it won’t be kind. He had four years and accomplished nothing but division and death. It would be interesting to see what circle Dante would put him in. Keep speaking out! I love you for your words probably more than for your beauty and fashion! (And, your blog has influenced quite a few of my purchases!)

    • Catherine says:

Oh Marsha. I’ll keep speaking! I swear I feel as though a four-year weight of anxiety, depression, stress and fear is off my shoulders. AND get this–I no longer cringe when I see an American Flag! Can you believe it? I still cringe when I see white men in wool beanie caps and maga caps and pickup trucks though! XOXOXOXO

  11. Susan Umberger says:

    Good job! Great words!

  12. bonnie says:

    All power to your words
    Keep following your moral compass
    Truth is power

  13. Joan Brown says:

Bravo, Cathe! 100% agree. I will be having my cataract surgery tomorrow at precisely noon when the inauguration begins. My husband will tape it for me. I am praying for their safety and looking forward to strong and ethical leadership in our country. Hope is eternal.

  14. Lynn McClain says:

Thank you for your thoughtful post – I enjoy reading anything you write, but your words were necessary at this time. Since 2016, the most shocking bit of tRump’s reign has been having any women supporters. Raising a glass to a better tomorrow!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Lynn. Oh boy. Isn’t it the truth? I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out why any women (my sisters included) would support such a filthy pig! Raising my glass of water since I’m on a diet. Saturday we break out the Champagne! XOXOXOXO

  15. Cathe says:

It’s so sad when people who don’t agree with you have a tantrum. I have many friends who don’t see eye to eye with me politically and thank god they don’t quit me just because we don’t agree. My husband doesn’t either and yet we’re still married!
After tomorrow I can stop checking the news all night and start sleeping! My husband is so relieved I won’t be waking him up at all night. It may take a while for the knot to unwind and I realized for the first time today that it eventually will…

    • Catherine says:

Oh Cathe–Ain’t it the truth? My siblings are all DT fans and as much as I want to shake sense into their thick Irish-American skulls, I still love them. I abhor their politics though and I’ve made it clear that we cannot cross boundaries. But those “subbies” who unscubscribed? They are shit stirrers. No room for them here. OTOH, I’m on a month-long ban from Facebook because I referred to one of the Capitol Terrorists as a bitch! The ban is wonderful! XOXOXOXO

  16. Up in Canada, we’ve been tired of seeing Trump on TV. He gives me a headache just listening to him talk haha.

  17. carolynmann7842 says:

    What a fantastic letter🇺🇸💕😷

  18. Kathy Luff says:

Well done Catherine. I’m in the UK under a corrupt and incompetent government who looked to your President for inspiration. Need I say more? I started following you just before the inauguration of number 45 and remember laughing out loud at your post that week. Here’s to a better future for you all. I read your blog for all your writing, not just fashion and beauty!

    • Catherine says:

Thank you Kathy! I appreciate your reading me for all my subject matter! Oh..what’s Boris going to do now? This is just such a happy day for us all! XOXOXOXO

  19. Donna says:

    Great heartfelt post…I’m with you!

  20. Kay says:

As the Washington post said, Trump is leaving a scotched landscape, Biden gives us hope, at least. Good riddance to the most divisive president in history.

    • Catherine says:

LOL. Autocorrect is a pain isn’t it Kay? I’m so full of hope this evening! I was crying at noon because I had to work through the swearing in. I have to watch it tonight! XOXOXOXO

  21. Kay says:

    Make that SCORCHED LANDSCAPE

  22. thelakewoman says:

Cathe….started my day with Mass, online. I prayed for the whole country. We should never forget this horrible time. It can’t happen again. Blessings…

  23. Renee in Northern California says:

Whew, I can finally exhale….been hoping and praying for months (years)!! What an awesome and historic day! It just has to get better from here!!

  24. Maryellen Reardon says:

I feel as though I can breathe again. I have hope again for all of us. Onward, America!

  25. Mary says:

Hi Catherine, from the other side of the pond (Ireland), I share your aspirations and desires for your wonderful country. Today America returns to its true values and the world will once again look to America for leadership and example. Amid these awful times, today is a day to rejoice!

  26. Joni says:

Up here in Canada we are grateful that the mad man with the orange hair has left the building….I sense a calm healing future ahead for the US.

  27. Ann R. says:

Bravo Catherine for speaking your mind. There’s a song I dedicate to DT it’s by the Little River Band from 1979 it’s called the Lonesome Loser. Also, I’m not a joiner but in honor of the gal that unsubscribed I’ll subscribe. I’m looking forward to getting some sleep now after 4 plus years of this horror of a human.

    • Catherine says:

Thank YOU Ann!!!! I appreciate your subbing and the mention of that song by The Little River Band–geez, I hadn’t heard them in years. I’m headed over to Spotify now! XOXOXO

      • Ann R. says:

Now, if I was younger and tech savvy maybe do a donald meme and rick roll him to this song or shall we say Donald being “river rolled”, or have Stephen Colbert’s cartoon Donald dancing on their group youtube video! Ha! I haven’t forgiven him for co-opting Gloria and YMCA. I love how Kpop tik tockers subverted the impeachbiden hashtag. I don’t do social media but all I can do is put these ideas out in the email universe. Image Q Anon being “river rolled”! there’s a thought! OK, clearly I have been Covid quarantining a little too long!

      • Ann R. says:

PS I forgot to say I love Rick Astley

  28. Susan D says:

Here in the UK my husband and I were glued to the tv coverage all day. A truly memorable and historic day. Here’s to a better future for the US and the rest of the world.

If you don’t agree with a bloggers views just unsubscribe, don’t make a fuss. It’s their platform to air their views, not yours.

    Good luck weight loss

    Susan D

    • Catherine says:

Hi Susan1 It’s great news that all my friends in the UK are thrilled with the outcome! I do believe we are on the way to a much better future. Yeah. Gotta wonder about those who make an announcement before leaving. Certainly no skin off my back! XOXOXO

  29. Miss Bougie says:

There was a resounding collective sigh over here in Europe when Biden was sworn in. It was on TV at 6pm and we watched. Appeased times lie ahead, no doubt. No more apprehension of a new world conflict set off by a tweet.
I wish the new team all the best and hope they will be able to stitch the american fabric together again.

Oh and don’t let the lemons who read your blog sour your posts; 🙂 Love your posts. You let it all hang out.
    Hugs. B.

I’m adding a link to an article seen on BBC news. (Delete please if I’m overstepping) Quite appalling what some QAnon followers believe!

    https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-55746304

    • Catherine says:

Oh B, don’t worry about the link. People NEED to read that. Those Q people need to have their heads examined and an interception! I’ll always speak my mind politically. I vote, therefore I can say WTF I want to. It’s those who don’t vote with the snark that I can’t stand! XXOXOO
