Taking My Country Back. Taking My Flag Back!

Caveat:  Before reading further, if you are a regular reader of this blog, then you are aware of my political ideologies.  If you are a guest or dropped by into my blog neighborhood and are not familiar or if you disagree with me, and you get nasty, I will delete your comments and block you.

This is my blog.  You can write about your thoughts on your own blog.

Let the post commence.

Since 2016, I have not displayed the American Flag on my property.  Nor have I displayed any image of it on a car window or bumper sticker.    And, as I grew up not wearing the flag or images on my person as my father said it was disrespectful to Old Glory, I have complied.

Red, White & Blue: American Flag Symbolism

There was a time when ALL Americans loved to fly this flag. Until 2016 when those fake patriots took it as theirs and theirs only.

In 2016, one candidate won the popular vote but was not elected President due to our unfair and outdated Electoral College proving that these United States is not a true democracy.  Instead, a con-man, a TV personality, a friend of the Mafia and now, a convicted felon, was elected due to the process of this Electoral College.

Hillary Clinton's DNC speech to America: 'The future is now'

Madame Popular Vote–you always exhibit class and a well-educated vibe!

During the four years of it’s Presidency, he did absolutely nothing for the middle class.  I drive around various neighborhoods in the Philadelphia suburbs in which I live and those dwellings—the ones with broken appliances on lawns, shutters hanging from windows on a thread, overgrown weeds that sported signs for the con man—have shown no improvement.  No improvements have been made. And I am sure these dwellers are on social programs—which, might I add will be taken away from them should their felon god be reelected this November.  Yet, they remain cultists.

Sorry bud. But if you think that other guy is going to make your housing situation better, think again.

Racist.  Misogynistic. Homophobic.  Hateful cultists. They are in a cult in which their leader praises Mein Kampf and holds the Good Book upside down.

That other candidate lies about never reading this vile book–yet he idolizes the author and can quote him.

But—enough of that.  I want to write about my hope.

Earlier this summer, when my husband and I were in France, we missed the debate between President Biden and that other person.

Through the reports of the news media, it appeared that Biden had failed. MSNBC, CNN were cruel and threw Joe under the bus referring to him as too old, too incoherent, not cognizant and the list goes on.  Not one of them mentioned the other candidate’s lies, his nastiness or his anger. It was all focused on Biden’s seemingly shortcomings.

He will always be President Biden to me!

A couple of weeks later, when my son Roman was visiting, we were just about to park my car upon entering an Asian market and the news came.  My Joe stepped down from the race.

I started to cry and my son comforted me. He told me that things would get better.  I doubted him.  And then something happened.

I started listening to Kamala Harris.  And I liked what I heard.  I liked what I saw.  I saw a strong woman who was focused on family values and restoring the class of the middle.  My emotional unwellness started to be taken care of.  Not healed mind you, because I am still traumatized and triggered by the results of 2016.  But I started to feel slightly hopeful.

Did Uncommitted Get More Than It Was Asking For at the DNC?

The voice of the class of the middle. Of the melding pot of us–both immigrants and those born here.  I like her. She’s renewed my hope!

I grew impatient as one would wait for news of her running mate. Among them was my Governor and boss (of the hospital) Josh Shapiro.  He has done a lot for this State and I did not want him to be the running made because, selfishly, Pennsylvania needs him.

Ultimately, Tim Walz, Governor of the State of Minnesota was chosen.  Knowing little about him, I sure found out within days of the wonderful person he is.  He is also the personification of great dad.  He is that neighbor you wish you had.  He was a teacher, football coach and all-around good guy.   The polar opposite of the other guy’s running mate.

My hope started growing.

..and my hope continues to grow.

Then I faithfully watched the DNC for four nights. (Not on CNN or MSNBC because those stations are nothing more than make-believe journalists who threw Joe under the bus. Rachel, Chris, Anderson—I’m talking to YOU!).   C-Span was the choice.

Looking at the diversity made me happy.  Watching the excitement made me even happier and hopeful.  Then the speeches.  I think we cried happy tears more than we did not.

Republican speakers who wanted to protect their country as opposed to their party made me incredibly hopeful.

That other party needs to take note of their own Adam Kinzinger–he put his country before party and spoke at the DNC.  He’s a force!

Meh—I could have done without the celebrities but hey, you cannot have everything.

Women for women’s rights spoke which just about broke my heart of what they endured.  Their strength moved me.

Joe with his grandson. How could anyone not love this?

Go against my dad’s ban of wearing the flag.  I ordered a sweater with an image of Old Glory and I love it.  The weather is still too hot to wear it but I have my Harris/Walz tee shirts in the meantime.

It gives me great joy to wear this sweater. And I hope to wear it proudly and often.  Instead, wore this Kamala Tee Shirt.

I plan on going shopping and installing one of those flag holders so that I can, once again, display patriotism by waving the flag.  Waving it and taking it down at dusk and folding it properly because proper flag etiquette is paramount.

I am brought back to wonderful childhood memories of Memorial Day.  And Independence Day.  And Labor Day.  The three greatest American holidays to display our patriotism with parades, and cookouts and family and friends at parties.  And swimming.  And staying up late holding sparklers while looking skyward for beautiful displays of fireworks.

Memorial Day Parade

I long to return to the feeling I had when I was a child. Being so happy and proud to be an American!  I need that feeling back!

My America could very well be saved from a tyrannical beast.

Lady Liberty could stand tall again.  Welcoming immigrants the way she did my grandparents and other relatives.  And my friends’ ancestors.

Statue of Liberty - WorldAtlas

Liberty Enlightening the World.  The greatest gift from France that stands regally in New York Harbor.  Back when I worked on Wall Street, I would love taking lunch to the Battery and looking with pride at her.  When my kids were young, I would take them for picnics on her grounds.  She welcomes everyone!

Today, I am cautiously hopeful because I am aware, that we, as Americans need to vote for our freedom and vote in massive numbers.  We need to take women’s rights back.  We need to re-work laws to get others onto the SCOTUS so that this kangaroo zoo is not a majority of extreme-righties.

We need to bring values and a moral compass back to our country.

I want that Memorial-Independence-Labor Day feeling of my childhood to be renewed.  I want my hope renewed.

Video gif. Fireworks in an array of colors and sizes erupt in random succession.

I want the fireworks back!

And most of all, I want to have that feeling of the love I once had for my America.

And I will support those who support the middle class, family values and all things good for our America!

America the Brave.  America the Free. America the Beautiful!

    Excellent on all points.

    Well Said! Amen!!

  3. wssolstice says:

I absolutely love this post! I too feel hopeful again after waking up every morning with a knot in my stomach. I live in Missouri and as everybody knows, this a solid red state. Yet—we have some down the chain hope with Lucas Kunce and Crystal Quade running for senate against Josh Hawley and governor against Mike Kehoe. Kunce and Quade are both very qualified and would do a great job! Also, I’m not seeing as many Trump signs (yet) or even Trump leaning Facebook posts as before. This movement is real, contagious, and yep, gives me hope! Thanks for sharing – it made my day!

    • Catherine says:

W, I am sooooooo happy to have made your day. I’ve had a couple of “political” posts down the line and boy oh boy, there were some nasty comments–which is why I added the caveat. I hope all red states start leaning blue and realize that their party of choice has done absolutely nothing positive to add to their lives. The only people who benefited from his presidency were his wealthy cronies, corporations and him and his family. Enough! We need a leader who is for the people!

  4. Denise says:

BRAVO! Not only did you take him on factually, you didn’t even mention his name – a name I never capitalize when I must use it. How on earth he has middle class followers just boggles me. He has normalized hate and vitriol. Who in their right mind can support that? No one is perfect, not even our candidates, but as you said, they give us hope we might return to civility and reason. Thank you for taking him on.

    • Catherine says:

      Hi Denise,

Yeah. I will no longer give that vermin the credit of using a proper name because it doesn’t deserve one. Like you, I cannot wrap my head around it either. And my siblings are part of his cult. That is what hurts the most because I love my family but boy–am I glad my chilcren have been raised with a more liberal-minded ideology! I see people in the stores with those red cult hats and they have missing teeth and glasses taped together. WTF? THAT is what your man did for you?????????? We definitely need hope!

Thank you! Now if we can just get the rest of America to wake up!!

  10. Barb says:

I’m bettng Harris/Walz beat the diapers off that 78-yr. old whiny baby. I didn’t decorate for the 4th for the four years he was in office.

    • Catherine says:

Barb, I sure hope so. That 78-year old thug needs to be gone. Oh. I want you to not have to put those decorations back in storage. I think that maybe people are beginning to tire of his nastiness, his ridiculously immature nicknames, his lies…..until it is but his cult that remains. And there are more of us than them. The biggest obstacle is the actual members of the republican congress. The are the epitome of evil.

  11. Kathryn says:

Hi Cathe-I, too, share your feelings of hope. I must admit I am concerned we could be disappointed but I will remain hopeful that Kamala will be our next president.

    • Catherine says:

Kathryn. Seriously, my mental health cannot handle four more years of that lying, draft-dodging, bone-spured whiney little bitchboy.I’m remaining hopeful, as are you, that we will wake up on November 6th to Madame President!!

  12. June says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. I still cannot understand how anyone with an ounce of morality and decency would support that jackass.

I believe the knots in my stomach and my depression is the result of this BS nonsense.

    • Catherine says:

June. You have knots too??? My stomach has been a roller coaster since 2016. Kamala just has to become President or we,as a nation and people are doomed. Absolutely doomed!

  13. Lynn H says:

    Right there with you!!!

  14. Elizabeth L says:

Agree with all you’ve written as well as with all the comments posted thus far. Now if we could only eliminate the Electoral College…it infuriates me that elections seem to come down to the voters of just a handful of states (not mine, I’m a resident of a solidly blue state on the West Coast).
We need to do as we were urged to do throughout convention: work to get out the vote, wherever we reside. My husband and I are writing postcards to be sent to registered Democratic voters in your home state of PA. Got the bumper stickers ordered already and love your Harris-Walz shirt!

    • Catherine says:

Thank you Elizabeth. We need to vote en masse to get Kamala and Walz into the White House. Can you imagine? The First Gentleman? And what a delight that he is Jewish. Christmas and Chanukah decor! Emma is a fashion icon that young women need as opposed to the fake fundie influencers with barrel-ironed locks and those oversized dopey hats.

I’m hoping PA goes totally blue! I’m hoping for an America that is truly wonderful once again. That man simply cannot be reelected.

  15. Sandra Sallin says:

Right on!!!! Shout it to the roof tops!!! Please let us have out America back again. I want one of those Harris Walz camo hats and some ,la shirts. I’d love to volunteer!! First time ever, but I think we all need to do our part to rid ourselves of that thing.

  16. Cheryl sharp says:

OMG! You are my soul sister. I am putting out a flag right n3xtbto my Harris/Walz sign!

  17. J says:

    Thank you Cathe!
You hare voiced what many of us who live in red states are fearful to do simply because one never knows how the Trumpers will react since violence is part of their culture. I fear for democracy if he is elected. VP Harris is giving us hope that we can “put him behind us” at last! I have my “,la”
Cap and will wear it with pride.

  18. juliet brown says:

Fingers so crossed that you can rescue your country back from what it has become, I am cautiously excited that here in the UK things are getting better – there is no longer the constant flood of sleaze that is hard to keep track of now the bozo-bojo and his revolting marriage wrecking side-bint (ie the current wife) are gone and the slimy ignorant toff-sidekicks are off as well AND the recent PM and his smarmy wee money grabbing missus are gone too. I am looking forward to decency, responsibility and respect on the rise, there are signs are things are getting better. I am hoping this for you too, so wear your flag – think of it as every time you wear it you are doing the decent thing and re-owning your flag – for every one of those oicks that wore it before, think of your wearing it as a cleansing and an almost purification from their desecration and corruption. Times have changed – your dad would have been right in those times, but maybe he would be totally with you now and the need to wear and claim what is essentially your birthright as of now

    • Catherine says:

Hi Juliet. I am hoping for a trifacta. England (the UK), France and now possibly the States taking the country back. 2016 to 2020 was disasterous. That thing did absolutely nothing. Now with his fucking Project 2025, which he and his moronic and sick minions have changed the title to still want to squash women’s rights and give praise to rapists. Think about that. Praising and giving rights to rapists. He’s shit. His party is shit and I hope they are squashed like a dirty cockroach!

      • Juliet says:

Fingers so crossed – I hope people will look back at this period as an aberration and a wake up call to be better and more decent going forward. I’m also hopeful some people will be embarrassed at how easy it was to manipulate and hoodwink so many

  19. Mary Catherine says:

Eloquently put! It makes me sick to think of him getting in again. When I heard Kamala speak I started to feel the cloud of doom lifting. And yes, we need to take back the flag. The lack of respect shown by the flag bearing pickup truck drivers is sickening. They have not a clue what flag etiquette even is

    • Catherine says:

Mary Catherine. They have no understanding of what it means to be American. The flag is just an accessory to spew their hatred. We want our flag and country back and I pray we get it back. I’m hopeful but remain cautiously hopeful!

  20. Marsha Banks says:

I, too, have not felt like waving a flag since 2016. I haven’t recognized this country as the one I used to teach my fourth graders about (excuse the bad grammar there). I taught them we were so very proud to call ourselves the melting pot. And, then, with the ridiculousness that is the Electoral College, all that feeling left me. I looked suspiciously at every old white guy I saw and wondered. I had never cried over an election before that one and hope to cry only tears of joy and hopefulness this November. I think many who weren’t going to vote now have a hopeful sense of the future and are casting their ballots for change, youth, and kindness. I know I am. Fraudy-five and his ilk can slither back into the dark voids from whence they came. I still can’t bring myself to wear a flag, but I’m looking for some Chucks and a few tees to wear with my pearls, my smile, and my hopeful spirit!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Marsha. It’s incredible how we have not given up on our country, but have given up on the evil that has infiltrated it. That man’s cult members still support his Nazi ideologies. It’s unbelievable. He needs to go. He needs to lose. He needs to rot in jail for the remainder of his life.

  21. franklinkathryn says:

    Hi Catherine,

Great post. I too am feeling hopeful that Kamala and Tim can vanquish the orange thug and his mini-me. I have become a political news junkie since January 6. I know I became fixated on all of the bad being propagated by “he who shall not be named” because of trauma in my family. It was a distraction. A bad one, because I have felt very stressed over the dark path too many in our nation were following. The Evil One has been following the Nazi playbook and millions have swallowed his lies.

My own husband voted for the guy twice. He did not like Evil One in 2016. We both thought our fellow countrymen would have enough sense not to nominate him for the presidency. Boy, were we wrong. Hubby’s family are all dyed in the wool Republicans. My family, including our two adult daughters, are all Democrats. I talked and talked before the 2016 election about how dangerous the so-called Republican candidate was, but all I got back from husband was that Hilary is “despicable”, she’s a “crook”, etc. It sounded loaded with misogynism to me. Let’s just say that I truly felt the strain. I knew that my husband would vote for the Republican candidate. I learned not to bring up politics in my own home. I mostly kept quiet through Evil One’s presidency. In 2020, when he was running again, husband said he still did not like the man, but he liked his policies. He refused to tell me what policies he liked! I knew he’d once again vote Republican.

Then came the Big Lie. I tried telling hubby before the votes were counted that Evil One was planting the seeds to convince his minions that the election was stolen if he lost. The prep started weeks before the election. As we all know it continued in full force after the election. My retired husband glued himself to Fox news for literally hours every day. He’d occasionally tell me some lie he’d heard on tv and I would scoff. I kept repeating that there was no evidence. After Christmas 2020 I heard him on the phone with his older sister telling her that Democrat election workers in Georgia were pulling out boxes of false ballots from under tables in the middle of the night and that they were hauling in trucks filled with fake ballots. He heard this crap on Fox. I was so angry after hearing him voice these lies to his sister that I wanted to scream. I kept repeating that there was not a shred of actual evidence and that even Evil One-appointed judges threw out the court cases. Sixty plus failed attempts in the courts.

Here’s the kinda happy ending. After hubby witnessed the January 6 insurrection on tv, my words finally seemed to get through to him. He blamed Evil One for the riot. We watched all of the January 6 committee hearings together. I gave him Liz Cheney’s book, “Oath and Honor” for Christmas last year. I have actually heard him telling some of his die-hard Republican friends and relatives that he has changed his opinion of Evil One. He sees that he is a wanna-be dictator. For one of the few times in his life, he will vote Democrat this November. We have been married 50 years and I can only think of two other times he has voted for a Democrat. In our last two gubernatorial contests he voted for Andy Beshear. (Now you all know where I live.)

I am telling this very personal tale to let you know that minds can be changed. It’s hard, but it can be done. Some of our fellow Americans will never see the light, but I pray that enough do that Kamala will be sitting in the oval Office in January.

    • Catherine says:

Thank you Kathryn. And thank you a millionfold to your husband for seeing the light. I am moved as is my husband (I read your beautiful comment to him–hope you don’t mind). It’s a beautiful thing that your husband was able to change his mine. My two sisters and my brother, to this day, pooh-pooh the insurrection and say it never happened. I can’t believe it. I just cannot wrap my head around their lack of pragmatic thinking.
Please thank your husband. He gives me hope and is a wonderful example of how someone can change. My eyes are misting up at this. Love and hope to you and your husband!

  22. Nancy H says:

Thanks for saying it so well! Totally agree with all you said.

But I am very nervous. I am visiting in south Florida now and shocked at all the Orthodox Jews I am meeting here who tell me I am misguided for supporting Harris! I never thought in a million years they’d be supporting the same candidate as neo Nazis! And there is absolutely no convincing them otherwise. 😢

    • Catherine says:

Orthodox Jews are a sect. They are just as bad as that thing’s cult. One of my dearest friends escaped the Orthodox sect and she went through hell. She’s an amazing woman and so very strong and brave. There are more Jews who despise that thing than those who support it. Remember that. I, too, am very nervous–the thought of it becomind dictator has wreaked havoc on my stomach as well as emotional/mental health. it cannot be reelected.

  23. Lisa says:

Thank you for speaking out! I live in Kansas and believe that, since we flipped the vote on the evil anti-choice amendment, we can flip things again. Many of us are filling out post-its and leaving them in ladies room stalls, reminding them their vote is private and please vote. It is going to take us women to set things right. To hell with it and his sad minions.

  24. Linda Jacks says:

Your post made me cry, the speeches made me cry. Thank you for putting your/our feelings together in such a lovely way. In early March 2020 I was sent to a cardiologist because my resting heart rate had gone up 15 beats and was going way higher during the day. The cardio asked when this started and I said, January 6. He burst out laughing and said that my erratic heartbeats were an entirely appropriate response to January 6. He did a bunch of other tests and I decided that the “other” president, as you call him, wasn’t going to put me in my grave.
Well, covid came along and his decisions contributed to untold numbers of deaths, but there I go giving him screen time.

    Linda Jacks

    • Catherine says:

Hi Linda. You are not alone with the heart thing. After that Insurrection, which shitbird denied, my palpitations were constant. I went to the doctor. Got checked out and was fine. But emotionally, I’m not fine. The thought of that vermin becoming president will change our beautiful America into a dictatorship that Putin will be joyful about. That vermin will be kneeling down in front of Putin on his knees and you know what he will be doing….

  25. Toni Soucie says:

I agree with everything you said. The anxiety I have had over the possibility of the orange turd being elected again sickens me. I am feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time. I so admire Joe Biden for realizing that there was most likely no way for him to win and for him to put his love of country over the job he held. I am profoundly grateful to him. Kamala Harris brings renewed energy, possibility and hope that those who support her will come out in droves to defeat the orange turd by a landslide. I do believe that will happen but I also believe this country has to be ready for potential violence if his loses. I recently read an article about the thousands of citizens who belong to militia in this country and it’s terrifying. I pray every night that once we have Pres. Harris, this country can begin to heal from all the hate and division the orange turd has caused since 2016. But, it will take a long time to heal. In the meantime, I will proudly donate to the Harris/Walz ticket, write postcards to swing state voters and wear my “I understand the assignment” t-shirt.

  26. MIssi Baker says:

The Fascist felon has haunted my thoughts every single day since Nov2016. There are several people in my life that I no longer consider friends. When I see them out, I avoid if I can, and in my head I don’t even think, “Oh, there’s so-and-so”; instead I think, “Oh, here comes the MAGA idiot.” I have donated and have signed up to send post cards. I’m 75 years young and have become a political activist. Let’s do this!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Missi, I’m waiting for my postcards! And cannot wait to send them out. I have rid myself of any MAGA acquaintences and co-workers. HOwever, they are being unusually quiet!!

  27. piratefreely750676fd92 says:

Thank you for this breath of fresh air. We don’t hear it much in red Florida, where freedom goes to die (home of the orange turd & “Let’s just skip the not-so-great parts of history” DeSantis. Why do these @ssholes live in my state?). SO disappointed in the republican congresspeople who know better but are too spineless to stand up to evil. They all need to grow a pair. I’m getting hubby the Harris/Walz camo hat he wants & a “Mind Your Own Damn Business” T for myself & signing up for postcard duty. Wish you were my next-door neighbor.

    • Catherine says:

My favorite aunt lives in Florida and is a total Democrat! She is very vocal about it and I am so proud. On the other hand I have relatives in Florida who are red. I cannot understand how they would support a raging racist and rapist. But…the only thing we can do is to focus on getting Harris into the White House!! I want a “Mind Your Own Damn Business” tee shirt so badly that it hurts!!!!!!!!!

  28. Susan D says:

I thought you had been very quiet….. but you were waiting and have written a very good impassioned article and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many comments as you’ve received. Well done from the UK.
    Susan D

    • Catherine says:

Hi Susan. Yes. I was waiting in the brush to see just what I needed to write. And I’m overjoyed with the positivity. I truly hope Ms. Harris becomes President Harris!

  29. Margaret A Daley says:

    AGREE 100!

  30. Cathe says:

I’m right there with you and signed up to volunteer for Harris-Walz. We’re not going back if I can help it. Thank you!

  31. Pat Klein says:

I totally agree with everything you said. Hopefully we will ride ourselves of this poor excuse of a human being, his only goal to rule this country as he something thinks a king, no just a failed business man who has failed this country and let me include the people that have lost their common sense and fail to see what is right in front of them and saw with their eyes and ears what this man has done to this country.

    Pat Klein

    • Catherine says:

Pat, His cult is moronic and extremely dangerous. I don’t mean dangerous in the fact that I would be afraid of them beating the shit out of me–because I know I could beat the shit out of any one of them But intellictually, his cultists are dumb. And that’s the way he likes them. Dumb and uneducated. He’s said it. And yet, they are so dumb they allow him to insult them like that. I hope and pray that Harris becomes President!!

  32. MomCat says:

I’m a Canadian and this is …your circus, your monkeys. But…1) sincerely hope Ms. Harris wins ( really how could she not? But that’s me)
    2) wanna know how much of a wiener DJT is???? EVERY DAY I get emails from him asking ME for $$$!!!! I have blocked these but they still come. I’m Canadian, I have a Canadian email address! How is this slime doing this? I have to admit the emails are HILARIOUS…did you know Kamala is going to turn the US into a COMMUNIST state? Neither did I but DJT knows EVERYTHING. Too stupid. No fact checking here…I have American relatives and they are dreading him returning and making a laughing stock of your country…again. That guy is a POS.
Anyway guys good luck, I hope your woman kicks his ass!

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Al. I would say I hope Harris kicks his balls but he doesn’t have any so that fat ass is what she needs to kick. He’s the most vile, evil, filthy rat on earth!

  33. Bridget says:

Cathe, I could have written every word you wrote, so eloquently. I am a US citizen currently in London where I was born, (till the end of Oct, coming home to vote) All here are holding a collective breath and support Kamala and Tim. It’s incomprensible to all HOW middle class “normal” Americans can support such a moronic entity, not just once, but even now after all they know about him. It’s truly baffling.. Let’s all put our ‘Soul Power to Karmic Wheel’ as John Lennon said so many yrs ago. BTW, I am digging out my old beloved sweatshirt with OUR flag on it, and I’ll wear it once again with pride, thinking of you. I pray we can celebrate very soon🤞
Bridget xoxo PS keep the good stuff coming 😍

    • Catherine says:

Bridget, I’m so happy you’ll be coming Stateside to vote. Yeah. I cannot wrap my head around the thought process of any individual–especially middle class who would vote for that idiot who would do absolutely NOTHING for them. NOTHING!
Yet they still flock to them because they love their racist candidate who loves a good rapist before defending women’s rights.

  34. Bridget says:

BTW, I saw the debate the day after we arrived here in London. CNN should be ashamed of themselves, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash let T get away with all. CNN in general has become SO ambigious these last yrs, they sold out for rating, and they sold Joe out too. They’ve become Fox -Lite! Anyway, it was a sad event. MSNBC are no better, I agree with you..

    • Catherine says:

Briget. Joke Tapper is pathetic. He interviewed Cory Booker and called him out on his college football days as though Booker was trying to pass as a pro–when he clearly was not. Yet Tapper refuses to call Trump out on all of his lies. CNN is horrible. They are veins of Fox news. MSNBC is no better!

  35. In Total Agreement. Finally Hopeful

  36. Kim says:

It’s been a whirlwind, but I too am feeling hopeful. (Also, I am ready to order some Big Gretch lipstick!)

  37. Julie says:

I wept while watching the insurrection on that horrible day and I’ve got tears streaming down my face after reading this post. I was born to two die-hard Republicans (and so on and so on back through the generations) and as a young person, I pretty much fell into the same – except I questioned and gathered information along the way and didn’t vote a straight ticket like they did. Then, nearly 19 years ago, I wed my husband whose family were as deeply Democrat as mine was Republican. I want to believe in the UNITED states and that we can somehow get back to working TOGETHER to make things right and then better but that will never happen if Kamala isn’t elected. I have hope again after watching the DNC. I’m scared to death for my children (all adult), grandchildren and great-grandchildren if she doesn’t win.

    • Catherine says:

Julie. Every word you wrote resonates with me. If Harris wins, I will bet that Kiplinger will be a part of her team. Bring old-school bipartisianship back. Obama and Behner didn’t see eye to eye on everything but they were friends in real life. I wish John Behner was back but you can’t have everything. That orange thing is pure evil. A dictator wannabe and his republician minions are just as bad. I want Harris to win so badly..and I want that thing and his minions to fade away…..

  38. Jane says:

Well said! You said what we all felt at this moment. Let’s take this enthusiasm to the ballot box and hope all sane voters follow

  39. Maggie Fieger says:

You said this so well, and expressed my hope as well! Now we just need to get all of our people out to vote!

  40. Jennie says:

This gives me real hope that more of Americans feel like you. I am from England and I have been watching what is going on in your country and the thought that that numpty that calls himself a human being is reelected is frightening, not just for Americans but for all of us. So in November I will be praying for Kamala to win.

    • Catherine says:

HI Jennie. My fingers are crossed that the USA goes the route of England and France and shoves the righties to the side. It’s going to make a perfect trifecta if it happens. I’m so cautiously optimistic after the shit that happened with Hillary. She won the popular vote but the fu*king electoral college voted that rat bastid in. I’m triggered!

  41. Sharon says:

I’ve never replied to a blog before but I share your thoughts completely. I had so much stress and anxiety during Trump’s term, and I still feel that way. I’m SO hopeful that voters will realize how ridiculous he is. I am thankful to Joe Biden for his service and excited for Kamala Harris to be our first female president!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Sharon. Thank you for your response. It makes me happy and gives me hope that there are more of us as opposed to them. I have major anxiety now. NOW!! Because I’m still nervous that the nazi and his republicans will dig so very low to f*ck with votes. I won’t be relieved until we have Harris/Walz as the winning team!

  42. Nancy H says:

Very well said. I’m in total agreement.
Makes me sad how many have fallen for the con man.
Must be particularly hard if they are in your own family.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Nancy, I’ve been flummoxed since 2016 as to how anyone can support that swine. The moment he went on to say “grab ’em by the pussy”…was the moment when every woman in the United States of America should have seen him as the enemy–a woman-hater. I still can’t wrap my head around it. And I have two sisters supporting him. Go figure!

  43. Renee in Northern California says:

Had an in-person post card writing session today and so many new folks showed up!! It was like group therapy: a safe place to vent and be heard…very cathartic!!
Thanks so much for writing this!

  44. Flora says:

I live in France and read The NY Times as my daughter is married to a ‘big dumb Yank’ as he calls himself, and lives in the US. I don’t understand why that paper is so polite about Trump and writes in a way that implies he’s a normal candidate and must be given equal billing, which is normal in a ‘liberal’ newspaper. If he is elected I want my daughter and her husband to come to Europe permanently. They love the US but it’s scary at present and might be worse in the future. You are in for a bumpy ride whatever happens, bises.

  45. I’m with you, Catherine. I and so many millions of others, who have watched, for years, the glorification of the worst that a human being can show. Despite its flaws, we were used to the USA being the paradigm of democratic values. I hope that November gives us back our optimism and hope that this dark historical cycle is changing. Luisa

  46. I’m with you, Catherine. I and so many millions of decent people, who have watched, for years, the glorification of the worst that a human being can show. Despite its flaws, we were used to the USA being the paradigm of democratic values. I wish the european votes could count too😊. I believe next november will give us back the optimism and hope that this dark historical cycle around the world is changing. Luisa

  47. Jan says:

Love this so much. Feeling much more hopeful but we have to get young people out to vote.

  48. Patti Gibbons says:

Catherine – best post of the campaign! I am with you all the way, got my Kamala-flower tee on. My town is red, but we have taken back the red, white and blue. xoxo

    • Catherine says:

Hi Patti! Thank you! We need freedom for women and that orange POS will take it all away. Don’t even get me started on the recent school shootings. Our children deserve to feel safe at school. The Republicans are vile.

  49. NoNonSense says:

Yeah, you’re full of $#!t. You old heads think y’all know better, yet here you are begging young folks to vote so that you and your ilk can continue the status quo. You’re just as greedy as Trump & Clinton

  50. Vava says:

I’m feeling hopeful that the Orange Menace will be resoundingly DEFEATED. And then we can have justice prevail where he stands accountable for all the crimes he’s committed.
