The Heeling Process and A Challenging Chore!

When I worked in Corporate America, I dressed.  And by “dressed,” I mean that my attire consisted of a more professional vibe.  Blazer, pencil skirt, shirt, or sweater. And heels. Always heels.

Might I also add my admiration for a good showing of toe cleavage?  And I still have these shoes. Don’t wear them, but I still have them.

There was a particular type of heel that I wore.  For my feet, it was always the pointy-toed beauty that showcased a bit of toe cleavage.  My thinking was if I did not have ample cleavage from my breasts, then that of my toes would have to suffice.

Whether that heel be a higher one.  Or a middle-range one.  Or a purr-fect kitten heel.

And how adorable are these heels with tights and a shorter kilt? Be still my heartless heart!

And suffice it did.  My heels always made me feel wonderfully feminine. (My apologies to my feminist friends, but true feminism means being able to have choices in all aspects of life—down to the shoes you wear) Heels made my rather athletic calves always, okay almost always appear slenderer and longer.

Such beautiful memories of beautiful footwear!

I wore leather heels, suede heels, Orsay heels, Made-in-Italy heels, horsehair heels, faux leopard print heels, open-toed heels, slingback heels.  A heel storm from above.

Heel Mary Full of Grace, My Shoes Are With Thee.. | Atypical 60

I still have all of these heels. Exception being the floral ones in the front. They hurt me feet too much!

Could I run in any of those heels?  Oh yes. I could.  I was adept at running after yellow taxi cabs.  I showed finesse in speeding down as well as up the stairs leading to and out of the subway.  I could run to catch a bus.  Heel—I could even dance in them!

Drag Race Running In Heels GIF by RuPaul's Drag Race

Put me up against any of Ru Paul’s competitors and I could outrun them.  Back in the day!

During my “mom” days, the heels were kept at bay. In a closet in my bedroom.  But I still wore them to PTO meetings.  School events.  Out for an evening or to a wedding or funeral.

high heels fashion GIF

The PTO meetings knew when PTO Queen me entered the school auditorium.  My heels meant business.

When I returned to work after my divorce, the heels were used again and I felt as though an old friend had returned into my life.

Then something very unusual happened.  When I started my job with the State, it was suggested to not wear heels.  This has everything to do with being in the units with patients.  It isn’t pragmatic to walk around civil or forensic patients clapping your high heels against the floors.  And even though I am not on the units, I do have to foray into the basement at times and, trust me, the only thing heels could do is make the “crunch” sound while walking on dead bugs louder.   (Don’t be alarmed. I love my job—that is the only downside).

And yes. I have worn heels a few times because I am at a desk all day but by the end of the day, my dawgs are barking!

Honestly, I don’t know if it’s age or what.  Heels are no longer my shoe of choice.  Maybe it’s the small bunions that have appeared after decades of wearing various heels.  Maybe my feet have just had it and need a break.  Maybe it’s just part of the aging process.

Don’t get me wrong.  I still have my heels. I can’t get rid of them.  Hmmm. Now I’m thinking.  Could I possibly be a “heel hoarder”?   If I am, they are placed neatly in a plastic shoe holder hanging over my closet door.

Now, I am in the “flat” days of my existence.   And speaking of the flat days, I did a thing. Bought two pairs of boots off Amazon.  A tall pair and a pair of those trendy “Chelsea” Boots.  Both are flat!

Well, they aren’t completely flat, they have small heels for support!

Last November, I spotted a ton of clunky short boots while we were in Paris.  Women of all ages were wearing them.  It was not a “love them” moment from me.  However, it was one of those trends that I figured, could turn into something more.  Still being on the fence, our upcoming visit to Paris got me thinking about our walking all day whether in Paris Centre or when we are out to discover new castles and sites.  I bit the bullet and made the purchase.  And since I didn’t want to spend a fortune, this inexpensive pair was found. It occurred to me that if I was not crazy about them, they could always be returned.

How to Style Chelsea Boots, According to a Stylist | Marie Claire

This ensemble is a bit too trendy for my personal taste but I have been intrigued by the Chelsea boots since seeing them in Paris last year.

Something odd happened the second my feet slid into them.  I loved them. They look great with black leggings and J. Crew pixie pants. They are comfortable as all get out. They slide onto the feet effortlessly. It was a shock to my system but wearing them around the house made me wish for actual Autumn weather (more about that later).

I LOVE these boots!  Here’s the link on Amazon and don’t forget, I make a very small commission:  Amazon Chelsea boots

The aesthetic of these short boots is simple yet, pragmatic. These will get a lot of wear!

Another pair, tall boots, also ordered from Amazon arrived. Again, if I did not like them, they could be returned.  As one with “athletic” (i.e. thick) calves, I was not expecting much in fit but the fit was excellent with bottoms such as leggings and J. Crew …. you guessed it—pixie pants! They will also look wonderful with skirts as they truly are a “tall” boot.  Shorter, below-the-knee boots make my legs appear both shorter and thicker.  These really are nice.

This is the tall pair.  They are really nice and will look great with skirts (the ones that still fit me)

Chippy may be disappointed these boots aren’t leather but I’m not.  Here’s another shameless plug on Amazon.  Tall boots.

Both pair are “vegan” leather.  In other words, fake leather.  Pleather. While I realize they will not breathe as well, if getting caught in heavy rain, they won’t be ruined.

jared leto vegan GIF

That’s nice Jarod.  I’m not vegan but will wear non-leather items if they look good.

And both are flat!!!!!!!!!!!

Trying the boots on really made me wish for cooler weather.  And as this blog is being written on the first day of Autumn, let me tell you what I did yesterday.

Here’s a hint:  Before and After. Actually more “during” than “before”.

I changed out my summer clothing for the fall/winter clothing. What a stinking chore!  It’s up there with having an annual mammogram and a regularly-scheduled colonoscopy.  The sad thing was trying on wool skirts and not being able to zip them up.  Yup!  Weight was gained over the past year. Be that as it may, I’m struggling to lose the weight.  The only clothing that fits, are the ones with stretch.  Like J. Crew……………………. pixie pants! Luckily, I have 8 pairs!

My blazers are all colorized, the three skirts that actually fit. Thanks to elastic waistbands. Let’s throw some jeans on hangers too!

All my flats are organized by color! This should last about a week.

Don’t even get me started on my moronic choice to carry out this chore on summer’s last day.  Mother Nature must’ve fallen off a cloud laughing like a hyena over my choice to do so on an 80-degree day.

Chiffon 'It's Not Nice To Fool Mother Nature!' Commercial (1974) - YouTube

Yeah. Mother Nature is laughing at me while she’s chowing down on margarine!

A day in which my husband decided that the air conditioner didn’t need to be turned on (until I complained like a Frenchman until he finally put me out of his misery and made it cooler in our chateau).  Summer clothing that fit was placed into tubs and brought down to the garage.  Clothing, both summer and winter that didn’t fit was placed into plastic garbage bags to be donated to the female patients at the hospital where I work.  I will tell you this much—they will be getting some nice clothes.  To be transparent with you, I thought of selling the clothes on Poshmark because, I could use the extra money.  However, I can’t be bothered with the process of someone wanting a refund because they decided they didn’t like the look or fit.  I can’t deal with that.  It’s easier and more useful to donate the clothing.

Bye bye summer clothing!

A portion of the donated clothing. Chippy is still sleuthing down leather.

And speaking of the weight gain, I took a deep breath. And did something.  At approximately 7:45 AM, I got dressed into leggings, a tee shirt, put sneakers on, placed Oona’s old Delta Gamma U of MD cap to cover my bald noggin and headed out, for the first time in years, to walk around our neighborhood.  My phone was in my pocket, ear buds were inserted and I listened to an “Earth, Wind, and Fire” playlist on Spotify!  It was delightful!

Oona’s baseball cap to cover my bald spots. No makeup. And walking around the neighborhood for my health!

Wild roses are still in bloom..

..but there are subtle hints that autumn has arrived.

Just me and the trees!

It was great to feel the burn on my thighs when arriving home and running up the stairs. And I realized that it is important to be mindful of my health even more these days. In addition, one is never too old to return to good habits!

That’s about it for today but I do have a question for you, my dear blog family.   I’ve been following a few blogs that women of our demographic write.  They are becoming less wordy and turning into ads.  Less words.  More photos of things you can buy.  Hey. I’m guilty in this post—I added links to my Amazon store if you are interested in the boots I wrote about.  I refuse to be a hypocrite but, I want to know if you think my posts are too “wordy.”

Melanie Scrofano Influencer GIF by Tubi

I hope you’re not saying “Make her STOP”. “She’s too wordy”. “I want less substance”!

Because I work all day, I do not write as often as I did when I wasn’t working.  But my point is, when I do write a blog post, I have a lot to say and don’t want to bore you.  And so, I beseech you—are you okay with my vents, pondering, long-winded posts?  I love writing. It’s fun.  It gives me a place to voice my opinion. What are your thoughts?  How can I improve?  It’s always great to ask.

Well, on this first day of Autumn 2024, let us hope for cooler weather.  Our hot flashes can keep us a tad warmer without sweating!

Hot Flashes after 60 | SheCares

Oops. About the only thing I’m avoiding is smoking.  My fall/winter hot flashes will keep me warm!

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

  1. I love reading your blog!
Don’t stop the wordiness- too many others are just mechanical and impersonal.
I particularly enjoy reading about your holidays and your little rants.
    Don’t stop!!

    • Catherine says:

Yessssssssssss! Thank you Janet! My rants are the most fun to write about because many people feel that way but they never share their opinions. I’m a giver. I love to share. I share stuff nobody wants to even know about-LOL! The holidays this year will be low-key, but I’ll find something to write about!!

  2. Bonnie F. says:

    Catherine,
I love and read your blog because it is your true voice. It’s refreshing to have you talk about your thoughts, and opinions, without always referencing clothing, home decorating, or beauty products in every posting.
    You be you

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Bonnie. Hey. The older I get, the more I realize that there’s more to life than home decorating, or beauty products. I honestly do not know how these women can afford to redecorate every season. Redecorating to me is throwing on a clean tablecloth and washing the baseboards with a toothbrush (reminder that I need to do that soon) Thank you so much!

  3. michele e hall says:

Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. I always laugh reading your blog. The best medicine!

  4. piratefreely750676fd92 says:

I love your posts. I’m stuck out here in the Fla swamp & reading your posts is like having a good friend right next door. Keep doing what you’re doing.

    • anniebridgie says:

Omg, me too, normally I live in Florida, I’m a Londonder, but haven’t been back in over 4 yrs due to first covid, then an aging kitty with medical needs 💕 I have been here since June, but returning to vote. Just to say, Cathe is a much appreciated breath of fresh air for us Floridians 😘

      • Catherine says:

Thank you Annie. LOL. With the state of things in Florida these days, your response makes me feel good. Hey. My son Roman was in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago for a soccer game. He knows his mom because he sent me pics of the house George Harrison grew up in!!

    • Catherine says:

Thank you so much! Hey. Don’t let those gators come up from the swamp to your house. Seriously, I thank you because you are helping me to feel great about my long-windedness!!

  5. F says:

Oh, please don’t stop writing. You are one of the few remaining resources for actually interesting blogs. So many are now 100% transactional. But I never mind your links because they fit into your stories.

    • Catherine says:

Thanks F. Yeah. I’m still somewhat uncomfortable adding links that I get commission on but it’s such a small amount that I feel it’s justified and I make sure those links are condusive to my writing. Thank you so much!

  6. Judy says:

Please don’t even think of changing a thing. Love, love,LOVE reading your take on life and what’s going on. Sending huge thanks from across the ocean

  7. Pamela says:

Pleeeease don’t change a thing! Your voice is refreshingly honest and cracks me up. ♥
Sadly, I’ve stopped following some of my favorite mid-life bloggers because their content is pretty much a commercial. Adding in the constant pop-ups, it’s just not of value to me anymore.
And blogs are NOT dead! lol

    • Catherine says:

Hi Pamela. THANK YOU! Thank you for validating what I’ve been doing. The amount of “mature” bloggers that have resorted to either posting a bible passage and saying: It’s the daily inspiration! OMG I have a daily inspiration too. It’s “People suck when they are driving so be careful”. Not a bible passage. It’s a Cathe Passage! Don’t get me started on those who deceptively say they are a blogger when they are merely a commercial for the product/clothing item/accessory/pill/ of the day. Oh. When I see a pop up ad. It’s over for me. I think I’m down to one or two actual blogs that I read now. I would rather read how someone is feeling/coping/aging without shilling vitamins down my damn throat!!!

  8. Kathy says:

OMG, don’t change!!! When I see a new post I make sure I can sit down, read, and savor every sentence. You’re real, relatable, and I love reading all about the trials of aging. AND your trips to Paris!

  9. Renee in Northern California says:

Keep doing what you are doing. I love it the way that it is!! I appreciate it the time that you put into it!! Thank you so much!!

    • anniebridgie says:

I LOVE your posts..the MORE words the better! I look forward to your blogs and your ponderings and thoughts on all. I lost a ’40 yr long duration’ pal..due to Mr. T. 🥴 We lived far away, so we’d write several times a week on everything, till she drank that ‘sweet colored drink’ nuff said, anyway, I don’t miss her, but I do miss girl chat..do please Cathe..keep up the good stuff.. Love your shoe collection, I too am a shoe lover. I’ve been in London all summer, and I must admit opted for comfy platform sneakers, so great to walk around in. Your new Chelsea Boots are very much in vogue this fall here, so congrats on a great purchase. Keep your wonderful convo going! 😁💓

      • Catherine says:

Thanks again Annie. OMG. I have lost so many friends due to that orange tub full of hatred. I don’t know if you are aware but my three remaining siblings are all kool-aid lovers. It breaks my heart because we weren’t raised to hate. My grandparents were immigrants. My husband is an immigrant. It’s appalling and I can only hope in November, the result is recovery and moving ahead with democracy!!

      • Bridget says:

I hear you. I am of Irish parents long ago immigrated to London, my husband is Roman, we are both immigrants to the US, he was posted to NYC with his job when we were 28 and 24 respectively. That was back in the 70s! Never have we witnessed such insanity. We’re going back specifically to vote. We live in dread, quite frankly!
It must be tough with your sibs. I have a friend whose mom (of 93) and sister are both MAGA nuts. She just stays away from the subject with them. I’m Irish, I wouldn’t be capable of being so diplomatic 🙃
Btw, I’m Bridget, depending on what I use to post, my phone or tablet my name changes , from Anniebrigie (my name is Bridget Anne, in good Irish fashion, named after my 2 grandmas) . Anyway, fingers and cleaved toes 😉 crossed, we need every bit of luck we can muster.. 🍀☘️🍀

    • Catherine says:

Hi Renee! Thank YOU!!! Yeah. there is time put into writing the blogs but that’s part of the fun–it honestly is, I would rather put out a decent read than bullshit!

  10. Baa Gold says:

Please Please don’t change anything. I love you just the way you are

  11. Jan says:

I like your emails as they are. As a matter of fact, the ones about your vacations in France are being used as inspiration of where to visit when I take a Mediterranean cruise next year!

  12. Linda Stevens says:

Keep it up! Your links to purchase are very few, which is great! I did purchase the Chelsea boots you wrote about today and used your link. Your posts are funny and entertaining.

    • Catherine says:

Thank you Linda! Honestly, you will love the boots. I was shocked at how comfortable they were even when first trying them on. And the price was right–especially compared to expensive ones! I don’t add links often so my thanks is twofold!

  13. Lynn H says:

    Hi Catherine

Please keep doing exactly what you’re doing!! Your posts are like a real conversation I’d have with a friend. I enjoy your blog because it hits topics related more to “that’s life” rather than “what to buy”. And is done with humor and intelligence, lots of thought and time, and never “too wordy”.

    • Catherine says:

Thank you Lynn. Exactly. That’s how I’ve always wanted my blog to come across–like a conversation. You know, when your friends tell you they found a great buy or a great something or other. I don’t add links to buy often but when I do, it’s one of those “friends-telling-friends” posts! I’m so glad you get me!

  14. Elizabeth L says:

Chiming in to add my thumbs up to your posts just as they are! As others have noted, your voice shines through with authenticity and humor. You keep it real!

  15. marsha57 says:

Please, please, please don’t ever think you’re too wordy! I love reading your posts because they’re hilarious, informative, and thought provoking. My blog is a fashion blog (thought I don’t really hype much…people think I’m given all those clothes…nope…I buy almost all of them), but I love the writing part so much more. I wish I could come up with topics like you do and just riff on them. I’m hoping, someday, I can feel free enough to just write instead of adding lots of photos. Heck, I don’t even know how to become an affiliate for Amazon…probably because I just don’t shop there (too much available, and way too easy).

I don’t wear heels anymore because of a fused big toe and other problems with my Frankenfoot. I have always loved seeing women in high heels. And, man, those drag queens…have you seen Violet Chachki? She wears Louboutin heels that must have a five or six inch heel! Her feet are practically vertical!

Keep writing, Catherine! I’ll keep reading!

    • Catherine says:

Thanks Marsha! Yeah. I just want to get a feel about the writing thing simply because with the rise of Social Media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram pushing reels and stories, our level of interest is being dwindled to less than a minute. Oh. The Drag Queens. I love every one of them. Pandora Boxx is my fave! They are so much more girly than we are–I’m jealous!

      • marsha57 says:

I would have a hard time picking a favorite though I do love Pandora Boxx. I think I liked the older queens better than the newer ones because they come with all this money behind them. I actually have photos of me with Jinkxx and Roxxxy as well as Alyssa Edwards and Naomi Smalls. My son was in an improv group who would host drag shows. I watch most of the queens on YouTube these days.

  16. Vava says:

I love your posts and don’t mind a link or two. Instagram has just turned into one marketing platform where the posters often are using so many filters they barely look human. (trout pout, legs a mile long, glassy looking faces, etc.)

I find your lease on life to be very refreshing. I don’t have many heels left in my collection and I’m about ready to purge the ones I do have. Or find a younger person who likes them and would wear them. I also like toe cleavage, too!!! Several of my flats from the J. Crew days show that off and it’s great.

Also, good move to purge the closet of anything that doesn’t fit or make you feel fantastic. That’s why I got rid of every pair of skinny jeans except for one pair to wear with riding boots in the winter. I also have grown to dislike leggings and am thinking about getting rid of all those, too. For some weird reason, I’m in a loose fitting stage lately, I don’t like anything tight. Quirky, I know.

  17. Arabella says:

I’ll take the written word/blog – any day. I abhor talking on the phone and wish more of my friends did not mind texting instead. I say that, k to say this: your blog post are never wordy, I have always enjoyed your musings and providing us links on products that you enjoy is a boon. This post about the boots is very timely as I need to start rethinking what shoes I wear to work and I too, no longer wear heels.

  18. Laura Kouri says:

I love your writing. Keep it up!

  19. Denise says:

I’m voting the same as everyone else here – not to be a follower but to keep sanity alive for those of us over 60 or even 70 ✋🏻. And I did drink the Koolaid, ordered the Chelsea boots for my trip to Paris in 2 1/2 weeks! So excited to be going with my daughter. Also made reservations at Chez Fernand Christine per your recommendation! Thank you for being you!

  20. Kathleen Harty says:

Since I am always sad when I reach the end of the posts, I would say NO! DO NOT make them and less “wordy” which I would call entertaining. Thank you for the good stuff and keep ’em coming….

Love your blog and the peek into your life. Just a little tip…Poshmark does not allow returns unless you misrepresent something or if it’s a fake. And the app is extremely easy to use.

    • Lisa says:

I love your post just as they are. I cannot visit America as often as I used to but appreciate your blogs to find out what’s happening over there in the USA

  23. SueB says:

Please don’t change your blog. I always enjoy reading it and it is so interesting to learn about your life in the USA. I’m a month younger than you and live in the U.K.

Embarrassed to admit I last went to Paris when I was 15. Don’t think driving around the périphérique once counts – still come out in a cold sweat thinking about it.

Really don’t understand why anybody would vote for the orange person.

  24. Susan says:

Don’t change a thing!!!!! You are my favorite!!! You are one of the few people I followed that aren’t pushing something. You write things that I am sure most people wish they could say! I look forward to each and every post.

  25. Gail says:

I love your “words,” your candidness…your humor. You are a breath of fresh air and I look forward to each new post!

  26. Tracy says:

Love reading your blog, don’t change a thing!

Love your writing and I’m going to order the Chelsea boot!

  29. Kathryn says:

Please keep doing your blog the way you have been doing it-I look forward to your musings and insights-thank you!

Cathe…..It is fun to read your writings so keep doing what you have been doing. After reading this blog, I now need to switch over my summer clothing to fall/winter.

  34. Kristin says:

I love your blog! Keep doing what you do so well.

  35. Sandra says:

Keep on writing. Don’t stop. You’ve always got something interesting to rant about. Love it.

  36. Gillian Burch says:

Please keep on writing to us! I always read your posts before the other boring ‘admin’ ones. I love your posts from the south of France, where I spent many happy holidays with a French family in La Napoule. My claim to fame was I saw Charles Aznavour in a posh restaurant!! I adore his music/lyrics. Keep it up …………….

    • Catherine says:

Charles Aznavour! My husband spent a few meals with him when his aunt and uncle had their estate outsife of Paris. They would often entertain guests from the entertainment industry and my husband said Charles Aznavour was an incredibly nice man!

  37. Juliet says:

Love your long posts, it’s absolute quality reading – I feel I’m perched on the end of your settee/bed having a good old natter. It’s so lovely to feel in tune with another like minded soul even though I’m in the UK. Please keep being you, don’t even think about what others are doing- we are here because you’re not like them after all

  38. Mary Catherine Wynne says:

I’m always excited when I see your post in my inbox. No, not too wordy, always funny and it’s nice to know we have company on this “over 60” journey. Don’t stop, don’t change!

    • Catherine says:

Whoa! I first saw Catherine Wynne and almost passed out. That’s my maiden name: Catherine Wynne. Many Mary’s in my family too! I thank you, Mary Catherine for enjoying my blog! Glad to have you here!

  39. Frances says:

It’s your blog, just keep doing it the way it works for you. As you can see from the comments, it also works for readers because you never fail to have something to say and you speak the often unspoken.
Being an 80 yo old bat, I know how the weight creep is so insidious. Just think how little a 1/4 pound is each month and then look what the scale says a year later. And on and on it goes. Kudos for getting out there and walking.

  40. Phyllis Lemell says:

I really enjoy your blogs – they’re snarky and sassy, and so tuned in to our age group. Toe cleavage – I love it! Keep on posting – you make me chuckle, and want to visit all the lovely places you’ve been.

  41. Momcat says:

Oh my gerd….it was your writing and observations on life that brought me and keeps me reading your blog. I know you can’t write as often so getting the long, wordy missive is like a really nice long letter from a very cool girlfriend who loves me enough to want to stay in touch no matter how busy her life is!
I am getting so pissedoff with the monetizing of blogs. I read on an iPad and those crazy ads popping up and obscuring texts are so obnoxious. I wrote to a blogger and her comment was basically ‘ if you don’t like it move on’ I did and ended my subscription. Also so many good writers have basically become like dumps for their sponsors, no decent text at all, what’s the point???
One thing I admire you for is that you don’t link or promote something you haven’t really used. If you’ve given it your approval then I am motivated to try it too!
Also I don’t read blogs to be flogged with ads and links. I read them out of interest. What’s this person’s life really like? It’s very gratifying to see someone who is honest with her trials and tribulations and is all IG perfect. I really hate that and have dumped many bloggers for their ‘fakery’.
Currently I’m having a lot of moral issues with social media ie IG in particular and the cringiness and blatant promotional use of their sick, dying, deceased or deformed babies for ‘likes’ that end up getting them freebies and money. Morally the use of any child for financial gain makes want to puke.
Anyway I’m down to five bloggers. Four I find interesting and useful with little advertising. The fifth is kind of a train wreck that doesn’t see herself that way but still some useful info. For now I’ll keep her but she’s hinted at paid subscriptions in the future. If and when that happens I’m out.
I know change is inevitable but keep on keeping on, we love you just the way you are.

ps my son refused to serve a customer ( US tourist) sporting a MAGA hat! He got the manager to ring the guy out. Again, morals. Don’t go wearing that crap when travelling out of country, especially to a city that was held under siege for many weeks by a bunch of MAGA sympathizers and expect respect.

Oh Al, you’ve set me on a rant regarding those bloggers. WTF?? I opened an email from a blogger this morning while getting ready for work. I hadn’t read her blog in ages because she’s all over Instagram. Anyway, I open it and I ended up deleting the entire email. Pop up ads. This ad. That ad. I can’t read a blog like that. I mean, how much freaking money can one make with those ads. I receive a great deal of emails from people wanting me to advertise their companies on this blog and I refuse. I can’t read a blog overwrought with ads so why should anyone reading my blog be subject to that shit? Don’t even get me started on Instagram. I can’t stand that “DM me with the word _____” for a link. I scroll on by. It has gotten absolutely ridiculous.
And the moral compass. The moral compass. I keep away from those who showcase their kids because there’s a lot of sick people out there. I know this. I work in a State Hospital where many of those types are patients. I never post pics of my grandsons on Instagram for that very reason. People are sick. And that orange thing is becoming more and more unhinged by the day–yet people still support him. Hey. Don’t worry about me ever charging for a subscription. Ain’t gonna happen. Realistically speaking, to charge someone to read your blog is rather self-important and narcissist.
Your son is a good guy!

Hello from the UK, on a purely selfish note, I personally wish you could write every day because your worldly honesty about everything is just fascinating. There is no part of your blog or posts that do not resonate with me, at seventy years old (me) and having gone through life’s rites of passage we are still here and making our presence felt, much kudos to you, keep on (long wordy) blogging.
PS when I found your blog earlier this year I read as far back as was published and still revisit even now. Jan Davies

    • Catherine says:

Ohhh. Jan from UK. Are you related to my life-long crush of Sir Raymond Davies? He of The Kinks? LOL. I’m incredibly happy that you are enjoying this blog and even more happy that you decided to read from the get -go! That made my day!

Oh how I love the long info filled messages from you. The travel, the makeup, the clothes, the shoes, the hair….. could go on, but you get the idea, Love when there is a new post. Keep doing it your way. When you recomend something I am interested to try it as well, as a 69 yr. old who appreciates honesty. Could go on but so much has already been said, just “dito”. Also need to get started on putting away the summer clothes.

Keep posting your thoughts/essays! I so identify with you about age, politics, even down to the fact that I am getting ready to change out my summer clothes to fall/winter. But, I have to say, I kind of enjoy doing it! It feels like Christmas when i get out stuff I haven’t worn for half a year – like I have a whole new wardrobe. And I understand about finding boots that fit! For some reason most boots are for women with very skinny calves – mine are not! I latch onto a pair I like and can wear! Again, thanks for your blog and look forward to the new post!

    • Catherine says:

Thanks! Yeah. I have to say, after I finished work today, I drove seven huge garbage bags of clothing to the volunteer area at the hospital so they can be distributed to the patients. They were shocked that I was donating so many clothes. But you know–what the hell am I going to do with all those wool pencil skirts. I’m at a point in my life where I’ve accepted the fact that this job in the hospital is the last one I’ll have before becoming a retiree. I love my casual clothes anyway. Oh God. The Boots. I would honestly love to see an ad with boots fitted on normal and thick calves rather than models with flamingo legs!

  45. I enjoy your posts! I figure since you don’t necessarily write every day, you’re helping your readers catch up!

I also just purchased a set of Chelsea boots for the first time in my life, also from Amazon, but a different pair than yours, though mine are also non-leather. I am not really certain why I decided that NOW I would like to have a pair, but as you say, they are really comfy and I know I’ll enjoy wearing them. And they were so inexpensive, if they do wear out, I can buy another pair without going into extreme debt. 🙂

    • Catherine says:

Hi Not-The-Other-Bridget! Thank you! Isn’t it weird that at this time in our lives we decided that now is the time for Chelsea boots? The inexpensive ones look just as good as the expensive ones. I’m looking forward to wearing mine!

  46. Mary says:

You love writing, I love reading about your holidays, work, opinions etc… Win, Win! 😀

  47. Cyndy says:

Acquatalia Chelsea boots are my go-to fave. I still have my high heels from Bendel’s-and the original boxes! – but I’ll never wear them again. Time to purge! Keep writing-you are very good at nailing my age angst. Is it a BS/BW thing?

    • Catherine says:

LOL. Cyndy. I have heels in boxes that are over 15 years old that I won’t wear or part with. Actually, I am a firm believer that our honors English classes at the high school were excellent. Bay Shore High was no slouch in that area and I honestly feel that most of us ended up to be very good writers and voracious readers!

I love your stories! And when you go to Paris, I’m right there with you through your pictures! Quick question: where do you get your wigs?
    Thanks!
    kelliott3536@gmail.com

    • Catherine says:

Thank you so much! I get them from various vendors. Paula Young wigs, Wig outlet dot com., Ace Wigs, Best Wig Outlet. Even eBay and Temu! Some are gifted to me as well!

  49. Liz says:

Not too wordy and Always Delightful! Paris is about the only thing that would change my mind about the Chelsea boots…(although I think you just did). Ha! They look great. And you’re way ahead of me on switching out seasonal wear… big Sigh. Great that you went for a neighborhood jaunt!

  50. D. Veilleux says:

I enjoy reading your blog! You have interesting insight and opinions, and you’re funny! I too have some lovely heels that I no longer wear much but cannot seem to part with, so this edition really hit home. Keep them coming!!!❤️
