One of the great things about being back in the office groove is that I get to dress up again. The President of the small company where I am now employed prefers a professional look—especially when bankers and other financiers drop by.
And, as I am the first person they will meet and be greeted by, it is important that I look my best–from the top of my well-coifed hair to the tip of my toe-cleavaged feet. And that means only one thing.
My feet and my toes are so happy to be back in the pointy-toed shoe groove!
It’s time to revisit all those pointy-toed heels that have been sitting in my closet for almost two years!!!
Do we see a pattern here ladies? Even though the time has come to dust these heels off, I do believe this (w)heel needs to be reinvented with a different kind of heel. Perhaps a clunkier one!
That’s right ladies. The only encounters I’ve had with my stilettoed buddies have been greeting them good morning while reaching for my casual Rondini sandals or my Bass Weejuns. And I never forget to bid them bonne nuit when I undress for my evening slumber.
My newest Rondini Sandals purchased earlier this summer. They will be in hibernation soon!
OK—so every now and then I’ll sneak into their little tiny home, otherwise known as the closet, to show them the newest sky-high footwear that MarieClaire has sprawled throughout the pages. (You know how I feel about fashion magazines due to their lack of older women as models—but MarieClaire has been known to showcase my Frenchman’s grandfather’s, Jacques Henri Lartigue, photos. This magazine gets a pass from me!)
..and speaking of sky-high footwear, these babies are almost five years old. I LOVE these shoes. They are still on trend with the chunkier platform, but the heels are thinner. Hold on to shoes they may be in style for a while!
My high heels have been neglected and will be socialized once again!
Hmmm. Somebody is eyeing these shoes and it isn’t with love. Chippy is hungry for leather. Again!
And there are two things that I need to do. I need to make sure that my feet are well-pedicured and I need to learn how to walk again.
My feet will thank me when they return to being pampered with a weekly pedicure!

Although I’ve been blessed with naturally high arches, they still need to conform to the shape of the shoe’s incline. My ankles have become weak from sitting in front of my computer whilst typing on the keyboard. They have also become quite weak from lazing around like the princess I am as I watch various episodes of the Housewives franchise and curse them out in envy for their shoes.
Yeah. Well, Bonaparte IS my better half–so that does make me an empress, which is royalty. I’ll bet Josephine didn’t have to learn to walk in sky-high shoes!
Anyway, I started to practice walking in heels again last night. I also started my practice after two aperitifs. Bonaparte was nervous and started speaking in French. He thought I didn’t know what he was saying. After living with a Frenchman for over ten years, I knew he was calling me a crazy nut who was going to break her neck.
I couldn’t help it though. My inspiration was a photo of a model (albeit young) walking down a runway in pointy-toed, over-the-knee boots. I could tell from her stance that these boots had a very high heel.
THIS is an inspiration to me. I need these boots. I WANT these boots. I COVET these boots!
High heels along with clunky shoes have been seen all along the runways for this fall. If runway models could walk up and down a shiny path of flooring in heels, then why couldn’t I walk gingerly over carpet and hardwood in heels that are, quite possibly, higher? It also dawned on me that I need to buy a pair of boots like that. The boot’s construction would support my ankles and would possibly help me to run a marathon in them!!
Wait! Are the runways actually showing CLUNKY shoes like this? Be still my heart and bring back memories of shoes we wore during the days of Disco! Remember this infamous album cover of the Trammps Disco Inferno? I want those shoes!
And for my inspiration, I can always go back to earlier this summer when I spotted the “Lady in Green” on the way to St. Tropez. Remember her? She was the best-dressed older woman of all time. And she wore pointy-toed, high heels!

With fall and winter on the way, it’ll also be fun to bring new friends into my family of heels. Perhaps a suede, wine-colored pair of heels or rust? Or perhaps even rust or wine-colored flats? Who knows? But I can tell you this much. My feet will thank me. And so will my pointy-toed heels!

Yesterday, while looking for a pair of shoes to wear with a dress I want to take to the States with me, I realized that I only have one pair of heels left–and those a shocking red. Not a good accessory to a maroon and gray dress.
Well then. You have a great excuse to go shoe shopping and boy, you are gonna have a blast!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!
Except they are lethal on cobblestones, which most of the streets here are..All, as a matter of fact, except for the highway.
Now I only wear flats, but love heels.

Lovely shoes. Sadly I have terrible balance (with or without a glass of gin or NZ sauvignon blanc) and my daughter charmingly tells me I walk like a trucker (terrible balance). That said we also have little or no reason to dress up in our office (last time I saw a colleague in a shirt and tie I was so surprised by this sudden complete overhaul I asked him if it was his day in court), turning up smartly dressed would mean we are off to an external meeting, turning up super smart with heels would mean you are off to a job interview somewhere else… In my old job I loved looking smart and presentable – but here is this job we are back room information specialists and I rather miss the days of looking nice as a standard.Today I am wearing tee shirt and granpa type cardigan, coloured jeans and camper trainers – not smart at all
Mind you with Glasgows footpaths and pavements – especially West Nile street you would break your neck on the cobbles, the boren paving, the slippery granite setts and in winter the black ice

I swear to god, the first thing that went through my mind during my virgin visit to Versailles was “How the f*ck did Marie Antoinette walk on the cobblestone AND walk up and down those marbled stairs in heels?”. I would have died! I’m starting to walk normally in heels now–at the first practice I looked like Mrs. Wiggens from the Carol Burnett sketches!!! I’m going full-on comfy today though. I’m off cause the kids are here so I’ll be dressing in shorts and flip flops!! XOXOXOXO!!!

My days of wearing heels are long gone. I nearly crippled myself and it took the orthopod a couple of years to get my feet into comfortable working order. ‘fraid it’s flats for me with arch support inserts. Of course, I go out of my way to make sure that they are NOT granny shoes. I have managed to collect orange, red, navy blue, pink. And a couple of more sensible height heels for those occasions when you need something a bit more upmarket like from car to restaurant, lol !!

Great shoes! My mother was a show collector…think lady in green. One for virtually every outfit. I was always utilitarian…and called her Imelda. She died just before my daughter got married, so I bought creamy satin pointy toed shoes to wear in her honor! Hope some shoe shopping is in your future along with your pedicure. Jo

I’m a shoe addict. Yep, I confess. I like the points and toe cleavage – but I do a lot of walking and so I save the heels for times when I don’t walk very far. Pointed toe flats are fantastic. Booties, too. This season, block heels are “in” and wow – they are comfy. I never go over 2.5 inches in height.

I love wearing heels, it instantly makes me feel cheerful, as if I am going to a party, but I cannot wear the typically French narrow pointy toes, my own toes just don’t like it, they complain within seconds! But the heels, the higher the better and I’ll suffer in the morning with pleasure!
Luckily for me, my feet are the ONLY part of my body that’s narrow so I’m in a good place when it comes to purchasing shoes in France! I’ve got a couple of pairs of pointy toed heels that I purchased in Paris on various trips and they are years old and have never gotten out of style. I love wearing them because they bring back memories! Unfortunately, I’m more clumsy than those French women so I need to stick to Repettos when I’m running around in Paris.XOXOXOXOXO!!!
Catherine – Love all the shoes – classics in great colors and not a White One in the bunch..My take is only Brides should wear White Shoes and forget the Memorial to Labor Day deal on wearing white shoes. Nope. But I digress – love the shoes and heel style and height – pretty and with toe cleavage…perfect. And as for the Lady in Green…looks like you have her style in spades. Good Job! Doodle! I cannot stand white shoes. I’m sorry to those who love them, but Brides and nurses are the only ones who should wear them. It stems from my mother’s rules of fashion. She always said that white shoes can cheapen a look and I live by the Memorial to Labor day deal with one exception. Jeans. I’ll wear white jeans all year round!!! XOXOXO!!!
Oh how I wish I could still wear high heels, but my ankles are now weak too so I can only go as high as 2 inches. I agree, higher heels do look better and feel better emotionally. I tried kitten heels, but they were more wobbly than high heels, so I stay pretty close to the ground these days. Wow, Disco Inferno brought back a lot of good memories… thanks!
Hi Margaret! You know–I have a pair of kitten heels that I got at J. Crew (I even wrote about them in a post from last October) and they were the most god-awful painful shoes I ever wore. Higher is actually more comfy in the weirdest way! Glad you enjoyed the song!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!
