Weight a Minute! Another Loss and A “Kilty” Pleasure

This week has been crazy!  I’m fascinated that my work day flies by so quickly but there is literally never a dull moment.  From the time I arrive until I leave, I’m busy—and I love it!

It’s also fun to get my outfits together.  I’ll admit—I’m not the most organized person at home but I do like to plan what I’ll wear the night before.

But I’ll get to that.  I’m down another pound!  And I’m learning how to eat when we have dinner outside our home.  Bonaparte’s daughter and son-in-law had us over for dinner last Saturday evening.  I ate the appetizers and a full meal.  I even had a bit of dessert—and when I say “bit”, I mean it.  I had a small piece of a fruit tart and I had half of one of the shortbread bars I made.

Another pound and two ounces. I’m pleased with this week’s progress.  I’ve stopped snacking too!

Then it was back to being extra-careful the remainder of the week.

My afternoon pick-me-up at work has been Chai tea. I have it plain with a bit of Equal to sweeten it up. It really keeps my satisfied. Luckily, we have a Keurig at work so I can have as much of this Chai as I want.  Water is also my friend these days too. The only downside is that I’m in the Ladies Room more than I care to be.

I’m loving this Celestial Seasonings India Spice Chai.  Considering it is far less in the caloric area then my beloved Starbuck’s Chai Latte, I still get that spice kick! And it satisfies! The perfect weight loss friend!

This whole weight loss journey is making me think of lots of random things.  I had a good laugh at myself last night.  OK—you know all about my hair loss and I’ve been playing around with toppers and wigs.  Some helper hair is great while others—well, meh—maybe not so great.

But I realized something.  My hair is balding.  I’m cross-eyed—big time cross-eyed.  My lips are fish lips.  I need to have a tweezer on me at all times because of the little hairs that pop up on my chin. And I get my hairy upper-lip waxed regularly.  I have a scar below my lip from a bathtub accident; I have a scar from Mohs surgery on my forehead.  Yet, somehow I make it work.   My delusional BFF, Jane Birkin, summed it up when she spoke of her own looks. She said she wasn’t born beautiful—and for that she was grateful because she never had to worry about her fading looks.  Booyah!  Jane was so spot on!

noriko-milan

This is my newest topper. Milan by Noriko. It has a LOT of hair. I cut bangs into it. Bonaparte does not like it. Ever the Frenchman, he now wants to be my wig consultant! Oh boy!

me-with-yaki-topper

I am loving this topper by Uniwigs.  It’s the Yaki hair topper I wrote about the other day–but it looks even better the filthier my bio hair gets. I hope my consultant, Mr. Bonaparte lets me order another one!

I wasn’t born beautiful either.  And fading looks never bothered me because I learned how to work with what I have.   A great many of us women are in that same area as Jane and me—and we’ve learned to take what we have and use it to the best of our ability.  We are empowered and don’t you ever forget it ladies!! And we all have those “meh” days and it’s perfectly fine!

Now for something special. My “Kilty” pleasure.  You all are also well-aware of my love for all things plaid!  As a young girl, I wore plaid skirts every day to school as part of my uniform. As a young woman, I had quite the collection of kilts.  And I’ve been on the lookout for a decent kilt but they are incredibly expensive. I just cannot justify spending two hundred bucks or more for a kilt.

Then I discovered SportKilt.com   (You HAVE to click on the link. Men in kilts are on the site!!)on the internet.  I swear I cried because I wanted to order every. single. kilt. SportKilt offered!  Let me tell you about their fabulous kilts.

First off—they are a weight loss journey dream!  The waistband closes with a heavy band of Velcro so that the waist can be adjusted. THIS IS GENIUS!!  In addition, the back of the waist is elasticized.   Skirts are ordered by waist size.  My kilt is a size Large—but I could have ordered a Medium and that is what I will order for my next kilt.

kilt-detail

A close up of the detailing on the waist. The back is elasticized. The front inside waistband has heavy-duty velcro as you can see from the top pics.  This is a weight-loss delight!!

The price is great.  $59.50 and takes about two weeks to make and deliver.  The fabric is a poly-blend and is machine washable.  Honestly, the skirt looks like wool but isn’t itchy like wool.

I can’t wait to wear my boots with this.  It’s been too hot. But look at the adorable emblem on the kilt. I’m dying! DYING!  I feel like I”m back in St. Patrick’s school again–this plaid is the same as my old uniform skirt!

my-next-kilt

I NEED this kilt.  Yellow, black with that touch of red. I’m in lust! This MUST be my next kilt!

This is the skirt I’ll wear on Thanksgiving because as my belly expands from eating, I can adjust the Velcro waistband.  Have a look!

ww6-kilt-in-mirror

I wore the kilt on Monday with a turtleneck, tights (that ripped the moment I took them out of the package–just another reason to go bare-legged) and black suede kitten heels.  I want another kilt!

The photo on the right is not just a view of my ample ass, but a view of the beautiful pleats in the skirt.  And NO, pleats don’t make your ass look bigger!

Back to my other outfits this week.  The fit of my clothing is definitely getting better. My gut is still pretty flabby, but it isn’t as big and flabby. It’s becoming smaller and flabby. The waist is coming back too.

Here’s a few of my looks from this week.

selfie-kiltie

I’m glad I’m cross-eyed because I can see two of these gorgeous kilts instead of the one!

Sunday was an errand day. I had to bring my Tory Burch boots (that I NEVER wear) to get repaired and I moped around the mall..

ww6-what-i-wore-on-tuesday

Tuesday I wore this colorful ensemble. I was thrilled that I almost fit into these navy J. Crew pants.  They wouldn’t zipper all the way up–so I disguised the top of the zipper with a long white shirt and over that I wore my pink cashmere cardi from J. Crew factory that I paid $15.00 for. Remember when I was upset because I lost it? I thought I threw it out? Well, I cleaned out my closet. I found it.  Like the tip of the shoes?  On sale PLUS an extra 40% off at J. Crew.

ww6-new-shoes

A better pic of the shoes. I love these but won’t be able to wear them in the rain or snow!

wednesday-ootd

Wednesday was Knit One Pearl Two day.  I wore pearl earrings with my knits!  That skirt–it was another find in the bowels of my closet. I got it at GAP on sale. I do not even know how many years ago I purchased it but it is a dieter’s delight!  It fit so nicely and I love the length.  The top is an oldie from T.J. Maxx. The neckline is great! The shoes are years old from Nordstrom Rack. I hate to say it, but they are Ivanka Trump shoes. Ugh. I cannot stand her father but I love the shoes. Why do I feel such guilt for loving these shoes?

todao

Today’s OOTD.  A zippered Tippi sweater from J. Crew. I got it on clearance about three years ago and wore it once. I like it this year so I’ll get some wear out of it.  I’m also wearing a black No. 2 Pencil Skirt from J. Crew.  From years ago.  Why is most of my wardrobe from J. Crew?  The flats are also from J. Crew but I’m a bit disappointed in them. They aren’t wearing as well as I thought they would. They are looking a bit raggy.  Notice the bare legs. No tights today! No fake tan either! I’m wearing my fake hair–the Milan by Noriko that Bonaparte isn’t crazy about. Oh well!

NOTE TO THE FASHION INDUSTRY:  OLDER WOMEN CAN WEAR SHORTER SKIRTS AND THE SAME CLOTHING YOUNGER WOMEN WEAR SO START USING OLDER WOMEN IN YOUR ADS!

Tomorrow is Jeans Friday at work. I have to go pick out my outfit now!!

ww-6-boots-and-skinnies

…and maybe it’ll be cool enough to wear boots!!

I was listening to Abba in the car to and from work. Abba is my GUILTY pleasure! One of my ABBA faves “Knowing Me, Knowing You” ! XOXOXOXO

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

You know I am going to be disagreeable, but I have had a whole week being nice to people – either the bucket of nice has run out or I am just plain done with it – either way I am going to respectfully take issue with your claim about not being born beautiful (sorry!). I think the majority of people are beautiful – born beautiful and get better as they age. What drags people down in the looks department (or any other way you measure beauty) is when they try and inhabit someone elses’ beauty – by that I mean they are not seeing what they have and seeing how wonderful they are and going with that – they dress for a different body shape, they want different eye colour, they wish they had… and dress for that – not for who they are and their own gorgeousness. You say you have thinning hair and crossed eyes, I see gorgeous hair (don’t care how you got it, not important when I am admiring it) and glorious twinkly eyes that tell me you are one hell of a woman. What you didn’t mention and I am pretty sure the rest of us see is that your facial features are gorgeous – you have an amazing smile, you have great clothing sense, you have fabulous legs… Finally physical beauty that stops you in the street or whatever may be one thing, but without charisma, personality or warmth it just looks freakish and a bit marginal. As I tell my kids YOU are absolutely beautiful in the best possible way – if you don’t inhabit your body and the life you are meant for the world has got a hulking great unfillable space that no one else can do much of a job with so crack on with things.

P.S the kilt thing – oh yes, a man in a kilt can be a thing of wonder. I too used to wear a tartan kilt – but for primary school, I absolutely hated it as my mum made it (we didn’t have shops to sell them in those days) and my mum HAD to make the best kilts, it was mortifying, the way she wrestled the fabric into those perfect pleats with a mouthful of pins and then yanked our little bodies about to get the fit spot on.. grim, but I guess it is how she expressed her love. She also knitted the cardigans and made highland dancing outfits for my sister – mortifying when I really wanted to be trendy and wear anything but a kilt in the 1970s

Absolutely loving ALL the outfits –that bright pink cardigan and the adorable shoes are fantastic, you and the green goddess (the lovely lady in France) need a lunch date together, how cute would the pair of you be!!!

    Sorry – REALLY long response

Hi Juliet! I see your point–and I have to say, that’s what I love about all of our friends here–we can definitely agree to disagree. And it’s true. We are all born as beautiful babies. BUT–the “visual” of beautiful per se is that symetrical face–everything matches–but for most of us, we’re a little “off” and that’s ok!! It really is! We learn to work with what we have. And I thank you for seeing me in a far better way than I do!
You were so lucky to have a mum who could perfect those pleats!! I’m glad you like my outfit choices! Thank you!!! XOXOXO!!!

You certainly have a great sense of style. I think you should be a stylist.

Oh, love the kilt! Looks great on you! A man in kilt is a gift to women I decided when I happened to visit Scotland during the Festival season…A man with a pair of nice legs can be admired as much as a lady:) You have really nice legs and can get away with a short skirt (and you are so right about older women being able to wear anything). Enjoy your weekend, and congratulations on your weight loss!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Angelin! Yeah. Oh Yeah. There is nothing more manly than a male in a kilt!!! Women of all ages, especally the more mature ones should be wearing kicky kilts!!! XOXOXOXO!!
