Atypical 60 Takes a Look At The Royal Wedding

Off the bat, I don’t have much of an opinion on the Royal family of England.  As I have a good deal of family in Ireland and the way England treated the Catholics, I am not enthralled but on the other hand, I don’t despise them. I’m non-committal.

The Royal Family. Believe it or not, I’m a royal too. Many people call me a Royal Pain-in-the-Ass!

However, I love me a good excuse to watch pomp and circumstance and weddings!  I don’t care who is getting married.  It’s a chance for me to look at ensembles both beautiful and horrific.  And this royal wedding didn’t fail me!!

This scene from today’s Royal Wedding made me want to watch The Sound Of Music again.  Maria‘s wedding to Captain von Trapp! Yeah!!!!

My big issues were how come my gurls Patsy and Eddie weren’t invited.  Where was Sir Raymond Davies?  Sir Elton John was there with his husband but what about my Kinky crush Sir Raymond?

I really, really want to know why Patsy and Eddie were not at that wedding!  They would have been so much fun!

Sir Ray Davies is knighted by the Prince of Wales during an Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, London.

And where was my life-long crush–Sir Raymond Davies?  Charles makes him a knight and doesn’t invite!

I hope Sir Elton John has a few drinks then sits down to belt out his OLD songs–like the ones from Tumbleweed Connection!  His husband is a rather handsome tabby!

And why wasn’t I invited?????!!!! I’ll just drown my delusional sorrows with a few Kir Royals this evening.

Seriously. Where was MY invite?  I even applied my makeup like Megan Markle’s and styled my wig like her wedding do!  She inspired me today!  Don’t we look alike?

And while it’s raining and pouring and dreary here in the Philadelphia area, I’m spending the day baking bread, baking gougères for the Frenchman and delighting in all things Megan Markle!

Gougeres. For our Kir Royals tonight!

The alarm, much to Bonaparte’s dismay, was set for 6:00 AM.  I woke up, turned the TV on and my Frenchman rolled over and whispered in my ear…

“Why ahr ou wacheeng zis sheet”  “Zeez pipoule..zee ar-is-toe-cratz..zahy do nosing”

(Translation:  Why are you watching this shit?  These people—the aristocracy—they do nothing”. My husband is still living the French Revolution)

Image result for the french revolution

My husband.  A Parisien who is not a fan of the aristocrats.  I like their weddings though!

To which I answered.

“I wanna look at the clothes and makeup!”  (You would think that by now my Frenchman would be aware of how deeply shallow I am)

And that’s what I did.  So, take a cup of tea or wine because it’s almost noon—or better yet, whip up a Tanqueray and Tonic—that’s what the Brits drink—and come along with me to the Royal Wedding.

I have no idea who this woman is but her dress was my absolute favorite of the day. Simple with those bell sleeves.  If I lived in England perhaps I could have her hand-me-downs!

First of all, just the fact that the sun was shining in Britain today was proof that Hipster Jesus is a fan of the Royals.  Harry and Megan had perfect weather! And Britain just acquired a new resident with beautiful teeth!

Watching all the friends and celebrities walk into the church with their wedding ensembles and headgear was such fun.  Those Brits (as well as the Irish) put us Americans to shame when it comes to dressing for a wedding!

They do it right.

George and Amal were there.  I used to love George Clooney.  But since he married Amal, I’m not a fan anymore.  Sure, Amal is gorgeous.  But she looks like a snot.  And he’s become incredible self-important.  I would have scratched them off the list.

People were raving that Amal Clooney was the best dressed.  I got news for you Amal.  Philly soft pretzels and French’s mustard were NOT being served at the wedding. You didn’t have to wear a dress the same color as the mustard just in case you spilled some.

She’s got smug written all over her face!  Wash she looking down at the crowds lining the streets–and how did these two get the seats in the “good” part of the church. Ugh.

Look at the lyrics on the hymnal sweetie–not at the photographer. You and Georgie are way too self-important. As Chris Rock says–“You’re not special”!!!!

David Beckham.  Oona and I were texting how great he looked.  His suit!  *sigh* Why does his wife, Victoria always look miserable? Did she not get her British teeth fixed—she has all the money in the world.  She has a successful clothing brand.  She has a great looking husband and children.  So why can’t she smile?  I would be grinning from ear to ear if Harry and Megan invited me to their wedding.

OMG. David Beckham.  THE David Beckham! Why does his wife look depressed?  She can afford a ton of Zoloft–I’m sure her medical insurance is fabulous.

Wait!  Is Mrs. B trying to smile or is she channeling her inner Mona Lisa.  I’ll tell you this. I want her shoes.  She’s got the best shoes of the day!  But–her dress is too long. Two inches off of it would have made her one of the best dressed!  IMHO!

The queen.  For once in her life, she is wearing happy colors.  She’s wearing my favorite Crayola Crayon color—Spring Green!  Thank you, Queen Elizabeth, for wearing this astounding spring color because we went from no foliage here to a burst of summer green on the trees.  I guess the trees were told to not bloom in the color you were wearing for the wedding.

92 year old pro-ager Elizabeth rocked my favorite crayon color.  I swear this was the best look she’s ever worn!

Camilla Parker Bowles, Mrs. Prince Charles.  Whatever her relationship with the Prince of Wails and Whines has been, she looks great in the color pink.  But her hat—I wanted to eat it because it looked just like a fancy frosted cake.

That hat.  It’s pink marshmallow and buttercream frosting and I want to take a bit out of it!

Sarah Ferguson.  Holy shit!!  If there was one wedding guest I was happy to see it was Fergie!  I’ve missed her wild antics over the years and her suit made her one of the best-dressed guests in my eyes.  If I had been invited to the wedding, I would definitely want to hang with her!

The return of Fergie!  This makes me love Harry and Megan even more because Wills and Kate snubbed her and never invited this life-of-the-party to their wedding..

THIS is how the mature woman should dress for a wedding!!! Her suit is FABULOUS!  And that length IS appropriate!  Next to the Bride, Fergie gets my vote as best-dressed!

Meghan Markle’s friend, US tennis player Serena Williams (L) and her husband US entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian (R) arrive for the wedding ceremony of Britain’s Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and US actress Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in Windsor, on May 19, 2018. / AFP PHOTO / POOL / Odd ANDERSENODD ANDERSEN/AFP/Getty Images

Another on the best-dressed list. Serena!  I love her because she does her own nails.  I often dream of being on a translantic flight and she’s sitting next to me and she says “I’m bored.  Can I do your nails”  And of course, I say back “OF COURSE!!” And then we become reallygood friends.  Her very wealthy husband’s pants are too short. But I dig his socks!

Bishop Michael Curry of the Episcopal Church is my guy today.  He’s as spicy as hot curry, he is!  His homily was refreshing and he mentioned the Jesuits!  The. Jesuits!!  I sure hope that Mrs. and Mrs. Queen Elizabeth were wearing Depends for that one!!

This guy.  I’m writing him a letter  because if my daughter ever gets married I want him to be the priest.  Episcopals are very close to Catholics you know.  I hope he officiates for free because I’m poor.

The two princes.  I’m a sucker for a man in uniform and those two–they also get a best-dressed nod from me!

I want a military coat like the one these two are wearing.  Look how happy they are.  I wish Diana was still alive!

Uh oh!  Harry and I are so much alike. We both have the same bald spot. This is yet another reason I should have been invited. I could’ve Toppik’ed the bejesus out of that scalp and had him looking like he had a full head o’hair!

But to the bride.  That dress.  You know, I love my edgy-classic look and I’m a fan of short skirts and all that but Megan Markle Windsor (I guess that’s her new name—right?) knocked it clear out of the atmosphere in that Givenchy wedding dress.  It was modest.  But modest in the most classic, chic and elegant way.  My first impression of the dress was that it reminded me of a Courreges design because of the simplicity.  Then I thought it was a Givenchy because it had a bit of an Audrey Hepburn vibe.  When I found it my guess was correct, I was on cloud nine!

That dress. Be still my heart!! There is nothing about that dress that isn’t perfection!  The neckline. Those sleeves.  It is so simple but so elegant. The greatest wedding dress of all time!  Givenchy’s house got it right!

Look, while I realize that many brides opt for lace and the strapless look, I’ve always thought that sleeves would be more appropriate for a church wedding.  And the fact there was no embellishment on the dress was even more endearing.  The focus was on the beauty of the bride.

I just cannot get enough of this dress. It’s about time someone brought a modest bridal look to a church.  I’ve always thought the strapless gowns were a bit inappropriate for a church wedding and not every bride looks great in a strapless dress.  This is a universally flattering bridal look for every bride to be!  I absolutely love it!

And a beauty she was and is!

She’s so gorgeous!

That dress.

If these two were any cuter it would be a crime!

She’s just perfect!

My biggest disappointment, and I almost got flamed on Instagram for my thoughts.  I thought that Megan Markle’s mother could have been styled in a brighter look.  Doria Ragland was the mother of the bride!  The mother of the bride!  We can see where Markle gets her beauty—from her mom!  And while I do realize that there is a certain protocol of dress that Ms. Ragland had to follow, the stylists could have given her a more fitted dress and perhaps she could have been in yellow or violet.  Fergie’s stylist should have taken a visit to Ms. Ragland–she looked beautiful but could have looked even more beautiful!

Seriously.  Doria Ragland is so beautiful. She’s a mature woman and that dress did nothing to showcase her figure or beauty.  A more fitted frock and a dash more color and she would have been perfect.

And I felt bad that she was sitting alone in the back row of the “important” area. For crissakes—Clooney and his snotty-looking wife had better seats!

You know I get very emotional and this photo made me cry.  Yes!! I started crying because I didn’t want her sitting alone. And she’s not even in the area with the lights. They placed Clooney and his snooty wife in a better place.  I want to be friends with Megan’s mom! She has such kind eyes!  Harry better be good to her!!

Give the mother-of-the-bride her proper respects!  Please.

Megan’s mom should have been seated next to Prince Charles and Camilla! Who did the seating arrangements anyway?

I also wasn’t impressed with Kate Middleton’s outfit but she gets a pass because she looked ravishing after just giving birth.

I’m wondering if at the reception Kate said to William “Honey, be a prince will ya?  I just gave birth so its your turn to watch the kids. I’m going to get a Long Island Iced Tea”

Did she really give Camilla the side eye?  Ohhhh…it’s just like my family!

Was it because Camilla thought the wedding programe was a menu?

Camilla is reading that thing like a person suffering from hunger pangs is reading a dinner menu.  My guess is Kate doesn’t eat. She’s like Patsy Stone!!!!!

This beautiful fantasy wedding was such a well-needed diversion from everything bad that’s going on in our world.  From politics to mass murders.  This was a bright spot.

This brightened all our lives today!

And to see a loving inter-racial couple who only have eyes for each other was even more thrilling and is a glimpse of hope for us.

What a lovely day and what a lovely wedding!

Long may these two young marrieds thrive.  I hope they stay together forever and raise a beautiful family.

Tonight, to celebrate this new couple, (On my part—the Frenchman thinks I’m nuts—but he’s French!) I’ve set the table for a royal meal.  The gougères have been baked, and bread has been baked and we will dine on chicken breasts cooked with roma tomatoes, olives and basil.  And a healthy salad.

In all honesty, when Bonaparte came downstairs and saw the table set like this, he was thrilled and went downstairs to get the “good” wine.  I’m sure its really because he wants to watch some crazy Netflix series and if I drink the good stuff I’ll fall asleep right away!

Have a royal evening—and think of all the love that has been spread across the world today!

This has always been one of my favorite Elton John songs. I like 70’s Elton John better than Disney Elton John anyway.  Your Song…

About Catherine

Far from perfect, but enjoying life as a non-perfect and flawed individual at 60 years young. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up! The characters in my life's screenplay include my better half. He is a refined Frenchman who grew up in Paris and summered in St. Tropez. I grew up in Long Island and summered in Long Island. I am not refined. My three grown children are also a big part of my life. For their sake, they happily live where their careers have taken them! But I can still mother them from a distance! I write about the mundane. I write about deeply shallow issues. But whatever I write or muse about--it'll always be a bit on the humorous and positive side! It's all good!

OMG you are a good. Vanilla reminds me of a Rottweiler ugh! Someone with her no st um face cream??? And get your damn teeth fixed!!! FTLOG!!!

Ugh why Charles had the hots for her over Diana! Get some glasses son!

    • Catherine says:

Debe. I could never understand Charle’s adoration of Camilla over Diana. But they seem rather happy together and it seems that the two princes have accepted her. Proof that Diana taught her sons so well!!! XXOXOXOXOXO!!!

  2. Judy says:

The bell sleeved dress was worn by the actress who plays Donna in Suits! Can’t remember her name but she plays Harvey’s secretary. Victoria Beckham always looks so damned miserable! I realky do not like David Beckham’s tattoos…..
And I too would have liked Meghan’s mother to have had someone with her. So alone, and so dignified. But the Prince of Wales did hold her hand!
Lovely wedding, blissfully happy couple, and she also wore a perfectly stunning Stella McCartney white dress with a cut away shoulder sort of halter neck for the party tonight!

    • Catherine says:

Oh…I need to get back to the TV to see the rest of the festivities! That navy dress was stunning though!
Exactly–I felt bad that Markle’s mom was just so alone. It’s almost like the royal family sure follows protocol but lacks manners. She should have been sitting with the royal family.

      • Judy says:

Sadly, tonight’s party is private so no press pics. On the news we saw about 30 seconds of them leaving the castle and getting into an open sports car to drive to the party. The dress was seriously gorgeous!
I guess they were sticking to wedding tradition where the bride’s family and friends are on the left hand side and the groom’s on the right. Jessica Mulroney, her best friend and mother of the two 7 year old pageboys was just in front of Doris, she was the one who guided the train around the pew when they left to sign the register.
Meghan’s half sister and other members of the Markle family have been in London all this week appearing on chat shows. None of them were invited to the wedding.

  3. Becca G says:

I loved your review of the wedding guests lol too funny & true.
Sure wish Princess Di were there. She was a true & lovely lady. She would have sat with Doria & handed her a hankie.

    • Catherine says:

Becca–you nailed it!!! Di would have been Doria’s royal BFF and would have made her feel so welcomed! I do think that perhaps Harry has inherited her heart!!! XOXOXOXO

  4. Catherine says:

Love Meagan’s style. Just saw what she wore to the evening festivities. Perfection! I cried through the entire ceremony. Actually sobbed, wishing their mom had lived to see both her sons grow up. Lots of eye rolling from my husband as well 🙂 Such a beautiful wedding.

    • Catherine says:

Catherine. Isn’it incredible at how these weddings tug at our hearts? I swear I’ve been misting up all day over the photos of Markle’s mother sitting alone. It tore me completely. I hope people are nice to her at the reception!!!’

  5. Momcat says:

I think it’s protocol that the families sit across from each other. But I agree the bride’s mom should have switched with the Mulroneys who sat directly in front of her. Not sure when a girl’s bestie gets a better seat then Mom. Maybe it was done on purpose so her mom wouldn’t be in direct line of the camera? It looked weird to me and I am a Canadian ( Jess is a daughter of a large Canadian shoe company fam in Toronto) and Ben ( her husband ) is the son of a former Canadian Prime Ministet and it was their twins that carried the veil, their daughter was a little bridesmaid.

    • Catherine says:

Hey Momcat. Yeah I thought it was a bit odd that her mom was seated so far removed from everyone. It broke my heart to an otherwise beautiful wedding ceremony!!! XOXOXOXO!O!O!O!O

  6. Judy says:

There are a couple of pics of them leaving for the evening do on huffingtonpist.co.uk, you can see the dress clearly.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Judy. I just went there. OMG. Her other dress by Stella McCartney is gorgeous. I’m surprised because Sir Paul has the infamous song “Give Ireland Back to The Irish”!!!!!!!!!XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  7. fiona says:

Loved your review of the royal wedding! I agree with you about Amal and VB. Never thought that Mrs Clooney was a stunner though, quite horsey looking to me and painfully thin….I’ve seen her in the flesh (not much!)….and VB always looks so bloody miserable. Crikey the Rev Curry went on a bit, I saw Elton John pulling a face and Prince Philip was intent on his Order of Service, we joked that he was saying behind it… ‘F*** me Lilibet, how long is this bloody yank going on for?’
Can’t say I’m a fan of MM, but she did look beautiful and her dress was exquisite. I felt like you about her mother sitting there alone, what a pretty woman she is.
Lots of us thinking about Diana today and how proud of her boy(s) she’d be.
    Xxxx

    • Catherine says:

Fiona–I’m so happy that you are with me on the Amal thing. Everyone raves about her. I’m like–WTF is so great about her. She looks like stuck up snot. Clooney is no better anymore–so self important. Self-importance is such a pet peeve of mine! Ugh. Mrs. Beckham is the epitome of a miserable looking woman. Jesus H. Christ, she should be smiling every day because she’s such a successful woman! Really.
Yeah Elton was pulling major face at Curry. I get the impression the Royal family wasn’t thrilled with him. I thought he was great!!!
I honestly don’t know about Markle. She seems to thrive on and loves the attention–given it’s a royal family thing, that may be a very good asset. We’ll see how this plays out!!!!!XOXOXOXO!!!!

  8. Judy says:

    Sorry! HuffingtonpOst.co.uk! Not “pist”!

  9. Renee in Northern California says:

I didn’t think I’d get so choked up…even my husband was, such a softy! Everything, was just so beautiful!! I’m worthless today since, I’ve been up since 2:00 PST! Toasted the couple with champagne around 4:00! Oh, I just checked out Meghan’s gorgeous evening wedding dress and she’s was wearing Diana’s aqua marine ring!! This wedding was such a balm for my soul and gives us all hope!!
    Have a great weekend!!

    • Catherine says:

Renee. You have a great weekend too. That wedding was just what we all needed to get back to feeling happy and wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  10. Juliet says:

You are genius – love it. I was out and about today but saw “the dress” when I was shopping in JohnLewis – they were showing the wedding in the flippin’ shop! Love the dress – fabulous. Not a fan of the royals and I agree with your Bonaparte – quite frankly we pay for them and I have no idea what they do and it is not even as though they were voted in and there are soooooooooooooooo many of them, that said I think the Megan is the best thing to happen to that family since forever, I seriously hope Prince Thingy deserves her. Doria is a seriously beautiful woman but also poised and elegant – like you say, she has such kind eyes, not sure that can be said about some of the inbreds but Doria is real class – just a stunning and gentle looking woman.

    • Catherine says:

Juliet. Right??? I swear I think Doria was short-changed today. She deserved better–and I’m wondering–did Megan make a Faustian choice? Watching her and her mom in the Rolls on the way to the Church was sweet but it seemed to have stopped there. She just seems like such a sweet and genuinely nice woman that Doria. My heart went out to her in so many ways!! OXOXOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  11. Juliet says:

p.s not a fan of the Clooneys – he is such a preachy little twerp these days, turns up at SocialBite (a cafe that gives profits to help the homeless) but has his own private plane and mega houses and mutliple millions – I mean seriously, put YOUR money to good use before you tell the good peasants of Scotland (like me) to give up their sodding groats. As for his wife….. pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. I just assumed VB cant move her face for whatever reason

  12. Lol girl you make me laugh; thanks for sharing your wedding commentary!

  14. Anne says:

I love watching the royal wedding fashion. Do you think Victoria Beckham is unable to smile because of too many procedures?

    • Catherine says:

Hi Anne. Nah. I don’t think it’s because of too many procedures. I honestly thing she is so full of herself that she thinks it’s beneath her to smile. So pathetic because she’s a pretty womanXOXOXOXOXO

  15. Arabella says:

I cried all through the wedding too. My tears were bittersweet as my late husband and I lived in England once upon a time, being a part of the ceremony dredged up many happy memories of being married and in love with a real life Prince (in my eyes) I drank a bottle of champagne and nibbled on lox and bagels as I applauded, laughed and cried at all the beautiful outfits and familiar faces. I loved your take on it Catherine, as usual, stellar writing.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Arabella! I’m sure that your husband was with you in spirit while you watched the festivities. Emotions are so tricky–you never really know what can trigger them. I swear I couldn’t believe how much I was crying over looking at Markle’s mother Doria sitting by her lonesome. It tugged at my soul and my tear ducts!! But we do need a good emotional cry every now and then!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  16. Bobbi says:

You might watch Clooney’s interview on Letterman’s new show on Netflix. Amal is a brilliant human rights attorney. Clooney and his dad have done work for human rights in Africa, did so before he met Amal. I guess I’m the only one reading this today who isn’t anti Clooney.
Also hate seeing Beckham’s neck tats showing under his shirt and suit. Looks tacky.
Loved the poem at the opening, loved the Priest and gospel choir. Loved the dress and empty chair for Diana.

    • Catherine says:

Hi Bobbi. While I am fully aware of Clooney’s humanitarian activism and Amal’s brilliance as a human rights lawyer–which is great, both still seem very taken with themselves. There is this virtue called humility which I do believe they both lack. Or at least in their public personas they appear to be lacking. But that face she made was so condescending. Anyway, I was too busy looking at the glorious visage of Mr. Beckham to notice his tats–LOL!!!
It truly was a beautiful, beautiful ceremony and I’m glad we all got to see it!!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

  17. bluetulips says:

Great review Catherine, love that you set the alarm to get up and watch. Over here in Oz, it was dinner time, so I put pj’s on with my big fluffy robe, thick socks, the fire going, some chocolate to munch on after dinner, sat back on the couch and thoroughly enjoyed it. They got super lucky with the weather.. They both looked so happy, which was so refreshing to see.

    • Catherine says:

D, that’s right!!! You are in the stages of winter while we are heading over to summer!!! Oh…they must’ve been very good because not many people get a day like that. The weather was gorgeous!!! And it was very sweet to see how happy they genuinely were–I hope it stays that way!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  18. Jean says:

The empty chair wasn’t for Diana. A news report said that it was empty so the Queen, seated in the second row, would have a clear view.

    • Catherine says:

That sounds more like it. The Queen was never fond of Diana either. I’m sure she was there in spirit with her boys!!! XOXOXOXO!!!

  19. calensariel says:

Personally I think Camilla was using that pile of cream frosting to hide behind, She never even looked up at the cameras. It was like she was trying to keep her face hidden or something. I guess I’m still in love with Diana’s dress. I thought it was so unusual and feminine (though she did look a little like a marshmallow in it). This one I thought looked like a bleached white potato sack. Classic? I thought it was boring. I guess I like a little over the top for a party. 😀

    • Catherine says:

Lady C–you sound like my younger sister. She couldn’t stand the dress–she was more a fan of Kate Middleton’s dress. I still loved it though! LOL. Camilla probably was hiding her face!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

  20. angelin2014 says:

I followed the wedding too, even though I’m not a royalist nor religious in any way! But if we are going to provide for those guys they should put on a show, right? At least that is how I look at the Swedish royalty (some of which I have met, not the sharpest brains I´d say) and if you like bridal dresses you may like to google Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine or Princess Sofia, all getting married these past few years. I liked the classic dress for Meghan, and the embroidered veil taking center stage was interesting as a fashion statement.
As for her mother she seems like a gentle person, as no other family was there I think she was pretty relieved to be sitting away from the cameras on her own. I know I would be!
I do like Amal, but that dress didn’t do it for me, actually I found “the tail” on it almost a breach of etiquette, and her heels were so high she had to lean on Georgie all the way.. Mrs Beckham never smiles, I think its her signature look. I did see her smile when greeting friends in the church, so she can if she wants to! The best dressed lady was Pryanka Chopra in my opinion. That lavender suit was perfection for a Spring wedding!
I was also happy to see Sarah F, but I’ve heard prince Philip has a feud with her (over the scandal she created in the US once upon a time) so she is usually not allowed in on official gatherings. I’m guessing Williams wedding was more official than Harrys which explains her not being invited to that one. There were no European royalty at all at Harry´s, which is just a bit strange. Hollywood royalty doesn’t really count over here…As for the American bishop I think he was a bit of fresh air, but going on far too long…the gospel singers were lovely though!

    • Catherine says:

Hi Angelin. I”m heading over to google those dresses in a little while! You just brought up an excellent point and now I’m sure I will be thinking too much into it. Was there no European Royalty due to Markle’s past acting career? Will she try to Hollywoodize the royals? Why were so many celebrities there? Where were my favorite royal American couple–The Obamas? Why was Oprah there and not Barack and Michelle? Where was my man Macron? Oh boy–now my head is spinning!!
But the ceremony was very nice–that American Bishop Curry was the man of the day. I’m sure the older royals were pondering why he was there in the first place! All in all it was a beautiful diversion from the regular news here in the States!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

      • angelin2014 says:

I think all politicians of any kind were shut out, not even Theresa May was there. The only one was former PM John Mayor but he is obviously a Knight of the Garter (some posh title) which entitles him to invitations. But the European royals are not politicians, and they are all practically family because of Queen Victorias and Prince Alberts huge herd of kids. It would have been nice to see the younger generation of European royals…

  21. Excellent review! I thought the dress elegant and very Audrey Hepburnish. I also loved her hair, a classic chignon? but there were loose strands on one side that she kept pushing back and some strands sticking out at the back. Maybe it was windy on the way to the church? Anyway she seemed like a very composed, confident, relaxed, happy, smiling bride – in contrast to Kate (who as I recall never smiled in the church on her wedding day and looked tired) and Diana (who was young and nervous and also looked tired.) Megan looked rested, like she had had a good nights sleep. Perhaps that is the difference between an extrovert and an introvert. An introvert doesn’t like being the center of attention, while an extrovert enjoys it, and as an actress Megan would be used to having all eyes on her. They seem like a well matched couple. Enjoyed reading your review – LOL re Amal Clooney and the mustard comment – can’t imagine anyone could wear that color?

    • Catherine says:

Oh…that’s one of the reasons that I like Megan Markle. She’s very comfortable with the attention. And she’s a REAL commoner. Diana may have been on the cusp of common but she came from a wealthy family. The same with Kate–she’s from a family of millionaires. Markle went to a normal private Catholic school. She’s more relatable to the average person and is a shining example to all little girls that they, too, can grow up to be a duchess! It’s sweet. As beautiful and stunning as Kate is, there’s something distant about her–a bit cold. My guess is that she fits in with the Queen on a more intimate par. I am not really sure just how the royal elders feel about this bundle of cuteness–we’ll see.
It’s so funny because my daughter Oona said the same thing about the stray strands. It bothered her too!
      XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!

  22. vavashagwell says:

It was perhaps the most romantic royal wedding I’ve ever seen on TV. Loved how loved up they are. I liked her dress but felt the veil was way too long. too cumbersome to deal with and I think something about the length of the dress would have been more chic. I loved Amal’s dress and hat, she’s one of the few who can pull that color off. The style was great, I couldn’t believe Stella McCartney made it because I usually am not fond of her designs. Another winner was Kitty Spencer in Dolce and Gabbana. Victoria Beckham – what is wrong with her??? Geez, she can’t be much fun to be around looking dour all the time! Meghan’s evening dress was beautiful and sexy! And she has Diana’s aquamarine cocktail ring!!! Love it! Kate looked fine, I think that coat dress is a repeater for her which is perfect.

Hey Vava. I just didn’t care for Amal’s dress at all. And I’m with you on Stella McCartney designs. They do nothing for me. Kitty Spencer–isn’t she absolutely stunning? She’s a true beauty. Now–her D&G Dress–I LOVED the cut of it. The neckline, shoulders, even the green was spectacular. But–I didn’t like the floral print. I’m just not big on prints but if anyone could carry it off it was her. She’s beautiful!! Yeah. VB–smile for godsakes.
That evening party dress of Markle’s was a stunna alright!!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

Loved your perspective on the Royal wedding. I was in France on the day and it always amuses me how so many of the French (obviously not all! 😂) are mad about our royal family. I always tease them by saying that it’s because they chopped off the heads of their royals 😳😂😂… I think Harry is possibly the most human and genuine of all the Royals & I thought some of them were so rude when the US preacher was speaking. I haven’t caught up with it all but I loved the gospel choir 😥. I thought their singing was so moving. Xoxo

Hi June!! Oh….the Church. I was looking at a HuffPost article about the Royal’s reaction to the Priest and was shocked at how rude they were. Protocol is more important to these people than being well-mannered!
My guess is also that Harry is the most real of the royals. He just comes across as a nice guy–I’ll bet he is the most like his mom!! He and Markle seem like a genuinely loving couple. It’s nice to see!!! XOXOXOXO!!!!

Oh am I ever glad you found my blog via Not Dressed as you are precious! How I am still reliving the wedding. Harry tears were my favorite and Diana would be so proud! I simply adored it all and your takes on the festivities are darling! And to note we have much in common. We too have a son Jake who literally just sold an Audi TT Convertible. We love our Audi’s round here. Looking forward to following you and your sweetness!

  25. Great re-cap, Catherine! I had wedding fever all weekend. Loved her bridal gown. Loved that she entered the church alone but with the children! Why didn’t her mother walk her down the aisle though?
I recall seeing your instagram pic of Mother of the bride and stating she was too drab in color. Well, I wouldn’t doubt the palace gave her two swatch colors to choose from. Then I saw the family wedding photo officially released the other day AND indeed the color mixes of Queen, Kate, Camilla and Doria was quite stunning in the photo. So, I would venture to say that the color combos of all the outfits were pre-planned for the photography.
Great post, as usual Cathe with some humor to interject that stiff upper Brit lip.
